Ben Foster is the actor that plays Axelson. They chose him bc he looked almost identical to the real guy and he's a great actor but even Axelson's mom said he looked identical to her son and the way he acted made her feel like she had her son back for a bit. That's powerful stuff

42:02 in the book Marcus said that Axe was actually the first to get shot. He was posted up between these two rocks, banging away on his rifle, and this round ripped through and through his chest. He said that Axe slumped forward for half a second, took a breath, made a face like (well… that sucks,” and was right back up shooting. And when he looked at Axe’s head, he said he knew Axe was dead. That headshot killed him, his body just didn’t know it was dead yet. But when they found Axe’s body he had emptied his rifle, so however many 100+ rounds through that. And he’s emptied his sidearm, so another idk even how many. But he literally fought till he didn’t have anything left to fight with.

About 5 yrs ago, the monument to Lt Michael Murphy was desecrated when some one smashed the black circular headstone that memorialized his service near Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island, NY. The outraged community and internet IMMEDIATELY mobilized… parents questioned their kids, neighbors questioned and passed on the information, and the police did their thing. Within 24 hrs an arrest was made… a local granite company replaced his his memorial free of charge. There is a museum honoring and commemorating the service of Lt Murphy winner of the CMH not far from that site… Bottom line DO NOT fuck with our fallen heroes!!! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

In the book LONE SURVIVOR this battle was described as being a RUNNING GUN FIGHT THAT LASTED FOR OVER 2 HOURS. During these 2+ hours those 4 Navy SEALs were 75%-80% surrounded by an enemy force of 200+ taliban soldiers. These 4 Navy SEALs were taking fire from elevated positions from almost every direction. On top of the wounds they received from bullets and shrapnel from RPGs they were also constantly being peppered by the chips and shards of the granite they were using for cover from the Taliban soldiers when their shots missed the Navy SEALs. In the scenes of the movie where the SEALs are jumping and falling down the mountain that is not 100% accurate. In fact they jumped 3 times not 2 and the mountain was far more steeper then how it was portrayed in the movie. This was done because it was impossible to recreate the falls 100% accurately for the movie. Also in the book LONE SURVIVOR everytime they jumped down the mountain 1 or 2 of the SEALs broke a bone in their body. Michael Murphy fractured his face and Marcus Luttrell fractured multiple vertebrae in his spine. With all the wounds and broken bones these 4 Navy SEALs received Danny Dietz got the worst of it. He was shot 11 times. 1 SHOT IN THE LEFT ANKLE 1 SHOT IN THE RIGHT CALF 1 SHOT IN THE RIGHT THIGH 1 SHOT IN THE GROIN 2 SHOTS IN THE STOMACH 2 SHOTS IN THE THROAT 3 SHOTS IN THE HEAD Early in the battle Dietz right thumb was completely blown off and he had to shoot left handed from that point on. The movie shows him losing 3 fingers but thats incorrect. And lastly in 1 of the jumps off the mountain both of his legs were broken when the other 3 SEALs landed on top of him. From that point on Marcus Luttrell had to carry him down the mountain. For his actions in this battle Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery and valor in combat. In the pictures shown at the end of the movie excluding Marcus Luttrell every man seen in the pictures we're killed during the mission Operation Red Wings. After numerous assassination attempts by the taliban Mohammed Gulab was relocated to the US in 2015 and currently lives in Texas with his wife and 7 children.

I saw a video where Marcus was giving a speech and he said that he had also bit his tongue off during one of the falls down the mountain. He said that he swallowed it and had to heave it back up and bite down so he didn't swallow it again. I haven't read the book yet, so I'm not sure if it was mentioned in there or not. The video was called "Marcus Luttrell lone survivor speech" if anyone wants to check it out, he basically breaks down parts of the movie and tells how accurately it was depicted.

Youre getting facts from a book that marcus wrote himself... After action reports deny what marcus wrote. There were no where near 200+ enemies. Further more it's proven by the fact marcus had plenty of magazines on him when he was found. Even gulab himself stated this. If indeed what you say is true. I'm sure he would of ran out of bullets. All true facts can be found online. Don't believe everything marcus writes. While I do have respect for him and the team that died that day. But marcus did go over the top. Not to mention the end battle in the village literally NEVER TOOK PLACE!

Something that is incredible about Marcus Lutrell is after he healed he went on a deployment to iraq in 2007 in Ramadi Iraq. At the time it was the deadliest city in the world. In his 2nd book service he spoke to. Wounded SEAL from team 3 before he left and asked him what to expect and any advice the SEAL replied “pray” and was lost in that thousand yard stare. He later was blown up again not seriously on that deployment was taken off his operational status and placed in the command post the rest of the deployment. Next year he retired

Read up on the story. He lied. He can twist it with the ignorance of the US with the help of the military and movies. But from the outside everyone knows. This movie us accidental propaganda. He is despised by men of honor in the service. And it doesn't take long if you gather the story and do some research. IF you are a logical and reasonable being, you can see that he fled, didn't fire one shot, and then lied his ass of. But then he made millions, and a movie, and now it's too late. It's to embarassing. They shouldn't have been there is the first place.

When you asked ‘who would tell’ if they terminated the compromise, the taliban would. The bodies would be examined and they would find 5.56 rounds in the bodies and they’d know what team was in the area. Over the years the Taliban would seize weapons from fallen US soldiers and use those to murder villagers and then blame the US for it. Happened a lot, actually.

My Dad is Army infantry heavy weapons, he’s 84, he has tremendous respect for special forces. But we watched this movie together. And he was outraged! Four guys! With 5.56, and 2 40 mike Mike’s?, Why? What people don’t understand is Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires, the greatest Navy seal in the best condition of his life can’t compare with the high altitudes of the mountains, if your not accustomed to it over time you will be sucking breath Hands on knees, while the enemy can run around like nothing, and secondly the Taliban figured out if they conducted ambushes at plus 400,500 yards, 80 percent of the infantry weapons were ineffective, only 7.62 machine guns or sniper rifles/DMR’s were effective, i read about a American Special Forces outpost who was able to get their hands on some Korean War era recoilless rifles with a ton of ammunition including beehive rounds, within a few days the Taliban gave up attacking this outpost, bc the defenders could fire huge rounds immediately just by pointing and shooting, especially the beehive rounds, they scared the shit out the enemy, the point is it’s heartbreaking as a American we send our troops into these situations. It’s great that the Army has a new baddass rifle. Light machine gun, sidearm, and sniper rifles,

He does extreme graphic stuff in that movie also. In any of ur high speed units, for all branches of service, the entrance school is typically harder than anything u will ever do. While yes this movie is based on true events. It's not 100% accurate Marcus team was hunted down as soon as they touched downed in that mountain area. Cause of the valley, every villager including the enemies heard the helicopter. There were never as many enemies hunting them. Let alone in the battles. Marcus was found with plenty of magazines on him. After action reports clearly state that. Including gulab who made it clear he found him with plenty of magazines on him. The end battle in the village never took place. That's just hollywood affects. I do respect the men that lost their life's on that day. But people need to know the true facts

Lmao the initiation reminds me of frat stuff, won’t get into too many details, but we have a talent show, every recruit/pledge has to bring something to the table, one guy did the napoleon dynamite dance, it was fucking hilarious. I smashed a variety of fruits on my head, watermelons, cantaloupes, various other fruits, cheated by cracking them before hand so it would be easier to smash them, one guy put a few pouches of dip in a 4 Loko then chugged it. 30 guys all presenting their talent to the talent show. I graduated college now but it’s hilarious to watch bc all the guys come to watch the talent show, it’s hilarious, drink a few beers, heckle & laugh There is no mass drinking or dangerous activities fyi. If it’s dangerous it’s not allowed. Never had a serious injury or death in our ranks, at least not at our college. & no dropping a few pouches of dip in a 4 Loko & shotgunning it is not considered dangerous,he didn’t swallow the pouches just the liquid, you’ll be fine, guy was a fucking animal anyway, he took that shit like a champ & was fine afterwards After you finish your performance you can drink a few beers & watch the rest preform, again fkin hilarious & enjoyable. Morale boost

Devin & Stephanie, you guys loved the story you should watch the interview with Marcus Luttrell about Operation Red Wing. He describes what aspects of the movie were accurate, and what parts were exaggerated or added. It was 160th SOAR that came for them when the Chinook was shot down. It's a heart wrenching story, thanks for the watch & thanks for your service, Devin!

I’m late to this but it’s pretty cool pls take a read , The reason he (gulab) ctook him in & saved him is cuz of the Pashtun code, which is like there laws for the way of living for example being forgiving or tolerant and showing love and respect all round and many more things , one of there main and more known rule is to especially show all there hospitality to strangers taking them in feeding them and defending them, im not religious in any way no offence to anyone who is but im frm a place where you see things that make u not believe in that. despite not being religious I still think it’s cool asf, I think this law is why I seen a black fella on his own recording himself being taken to a room to drink tea with who he claimed was the taliban they had machine guns up against the wall and they sat down and spoke over tea, honestly I don’t think they was taliban maybe some rebels or some formed alliance to fight alongside ANA

Great reaction and i also liked the movie but after digging as far as 1 can with what can be found and told by the marines thar were there to get marcus, i dont enjoy watching this anymore due to the possibility of it being almost completely wrong and a lie. Imo from testimony and readings lutrell most likely hid and left his so called brothers to die. There is video evidence from talis that were filming the entire thing and i love when these people claim 200+ 😂😂 more like 25 30 tops but most likely it was around 15 non trained combatants and since 4 is better than 3 it could've went differently if he held his ground and didnt go full on baby mode. Additionally they were going to tie the hearders up and leave them but ofcourse lutrell coaxed Lt to let them go and imo that was the dumbest decision EVER..

The Op was incredibly poorly planned and no one who was supposed to review their OPORD spoke up. There were glaring holes in their infil, exfil, and medevac plan. It was assumed (by everyone) that the contingency plans had already been formed, when in reality they had not. The guys on the op did not carry a 2nd form of Comms and when their MBITER went down they were effectively cut off from the TOC and any assets they might of had. The team that went out had an incredibly caviler attitude and as a result, turned down multiple assets from the Army and Air Force. They denied an offer by the N2 dept to do an RFI on the target and surrounding area. They started the op without waiting for dust off or nightingale being spun up. They refused to have CAS on station. They submitted the op as a 'level zero' when it was actually a 'level 1' which is a huge fucking deal. Bottom line: these guys submitted a flawed orord, refused additional intel, refused support elements that were offered, refused secondary comm package, left multiple support personnel back at the base, and didn't request any intel on an area that hadn't had U.S. Personnel in it for almost a year. Which is why Operation Red Wing is taught as a 'here is the shit YOU DONT DO' class to all NSW personnel. Some of you in the comments are literally insane. War crimes and mistakes. Accrording to several reports and from Mohamma Glab himself. "We could hear and see them land on in the mountains" They were clowns. Sucks that they died, but it doesn't make them smart or heroes. This was a waste of everything, and the worst of them survived, and lied. Now it's too late and the DoD is not going to admit it, obviously. So call me hater because you can't argue logic, or just dimiss it because the wall someone put in your head is really strong and you feel safe.

you should hear Marcus tell the story . its much worse than this. operation red wing was bad thing. much worse than this . marcus had broken back an ax had front his face shot off basiclly not shot in back of head. an to hear marcus talk bout how he couldnt stand to hear mike yell his name asking for his help while he was dying. and the whole thing lasted over 4 hours an they had 180 guys surround them an they didnt even hear the helicopter get taken out cause they basicly were deff from all the incoming rounds. the taliban recorded the whole thing on several video recorders. its really horrible watching what they did to them after they killed them. you need watch marcus tell this story. he is reason i am proud be a texan
