I grew up watching this trilogy. I know the Batman of Michael Keaton, but this one makes me feel respect for him. I think it's about the essence of the character, same thing when we see a character who expresses himself with precise words, and you think if you say something bad, he can scary you just looking into the eyes.

@@Gnossiene369 i really don’t think it was meant like that. I think they were just saying it since it’s not a common opinion to have, especially amidst a comment section of a superhero film reaction. Why respond so aggressively? I sometimes I say honestly before saying something that others may take offense with in order to preface that that’s just my personal opinion and it may be an uncommon one. I don’t know, your response just seemed rather overboard and rude. Not everyone has to enjoy superhero films, people are allowed to have their own preferences and admit when they don’t know much about or care much for something that’s popular. If you just took issue with them using the word honestly and that was it there was definitely a better way to phrase your comment to get that across. It’s the use of one word, was it unnecessary? Maybe but if the intent is just to make sure others understand you aren’t trying to insult something they like or placate then it’s not that big of a deal.

Batman Begins will ALWAYS be my favorite Batman movie. Christian Bale was incredible, Christopher Nolan cleverly edited the fight scenes to depict Batman as a bat creature, Bruce and Rachel's relationship had much more depth and emotional connection than Batman + Catwoman ever had together, the origin story of Bruce's pain leading him to the League of Shadows was depicted beautifully... For the part where Ken Watanabe's character speaks a random foreign language instead of Japanese, it was to hide the true origins of Ra's al Ghul. In the comics, Ra's al Ghul is actually Egyptian, but in this movie they wanted it to be a complete mystery to add to the alure of the League of Shadows. Honestly it works well, as you never know how the League truthfully operates or how powerfully they actually are especially in the second act!

I do love that the first time that a lot of Gotham's criminals see Batman for the first time is when they're all on fear toxin and see him flying above them. He had to be terrifying to them and they're all seeing a batlike creature but maybe some are seeing him with the red glowing eyes, some are seeing him with blood covering his mouth, some are seeing him with talons, etc. Obviously they would have rationalize once they were treated for the toxin that what they saw was probably a hallucination, but this was a hallucination based in an actual living breathing thing. All those hallucinations seeing Batman as this demonic creature in all the various forms they would have seen him in, that had to add to the myth of Batman to the criminal element and make them subconsciously more afraid of him.

With the slap that Katie Holmes (Rachel) gives Bales Batman apparently Katie wouldn’t put her all in to it at first and Bale had to basically tell her to hit him full with no acting. Bale apparently wasn’t expecting her to hit him so hard with Katie being so small and the take they used is the one where he just held his surprise together.

5:11 - Actually, the focus on the pearls during the Wayne's murder originated with the '89 Batman movie. The image has become so iconic that it has been retconned into the comics, even though they were not present in the original depictions of the incident. 5:38 - What, you've never seen Faust before? 17:58 - Douche Wayne. 21:26 - In the '60s Batman show, the Bat-Poles to the Bat-Cave were accessed by a sliding bookcase activated by a big red button hidden beneath the flip-top bust of William Shakespeare on the desk in Bruce's study.

This is genuinely my favourite manifestation of the Batman origin-story, and the fact that the whole focus of it is on psychology: from his desire to understand the criminal mind, to the blue-flower test in the League of Shadows, to the desire to kill Chill and to stand-up to Falcone, to the involvement of Scarecrow... (chef's kiss) I've been a longtime fan of the _shinobi_ anyway, as well as Batman, Sherlock Holmes, Arsène Lupin, the Musketeers, and the Count of Monte Cristo; each character required incredible physical skills, but also the use of the mind and an understanding of psychology, to achieve their aims. I'm a huge fan of spy and detective films and TV series. All of them offer such interesting ideas.

in case you're unaware this movie is HEAVILY inspired by story arc in the comics by Frank Miller called "Batman: year one" which ran from Batman #404 to batman #407 from 1987. It was a story intended to retell batman's first year after the then recent reboot of DC continuity. It now considered a cult classic story and THE batman starter story to read when getting into batman comics for the first time. It also apparently one of the comic stories that served as inspiration for the new "The Batman" movie. The other major inspiration is a story called "the man who falls" from 1990. This story by Dennis O'Neil was a full retelling of batman's origin starting from him falling into the hole as a child up all the way up to bruce coming up with the name "batman". The story features short retellings of parts of previous stories (year one, blind justice and shaman) and fills in gaps in between those stories, helping to string them into one narrative. If theres one thing I wish was added to this movie (despite it likely sounding silly off the comic page) is my favourite dialogue from batman year one (i've skipped over some of the middle to save me writing it all out): "How father? How do I do it? What do I use to make the afraid? ... ...Without warning it comes. Crashing through the window of your study and mine. I have seen it before, somewhere. It frightened me as a boy. Frightened me. Yes, father. I shall become a bat."

Ra's al Ghul says that Bruce burned his house and left him for dead because Bruce left who he thought was Ra's for dead (and he probably did die). So even though Bruce saved the _actual_ Ra's, he didn't know it at the time and was fine with leaving who he thought was Ra's for dead.

Well Ewan McGregor proved in Birds of Prey that he can play a good sadistic comic book villain. But he's probably more suited to the Joker in that sense

I watched this on the big screen and loved this because while the others were like comic book movies, these felt like a real take on real life super hero films before Kick Ass. Also his first attack on the villains felt like a horror scene which is perfect point of view.

If you guys like, there's a video for screentests that Bale, Cillian Murphy, and Eon Bailey did. Bale got the job and deservedly so. They all wore the Val Kilmer sonar suit for the audition. It's on youtube, "Batman Begins screentests"

Welcome to Christopher Nolan's Batman series starring Christian Bale as the caped crusader as a billionaire by day and vigilante hero by night. Also featuring Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes and Leslie Neilson as Ras-Al Ghul with Michael Caine as Alfred.

Technically it was Batman the Animated series that really took Batman into a serious tone to the general audience. Batman:AS took the gothic crime noir setting cues from Tim Burton's Batman and replaced both the goofy slapstick of the Adam West Batman and the onenote evil-for-evilness sake villains with the tragedy of Bruce Wayne and the dived into the shattered humanity of the villains. That created a very emotionally raw Batman, yet one that is more relatable than any other Batman in moving pictures before. This trilogy then took what Batman:AS gave to the world, and brought it back to the silver screen and redeemed and enhanced in entirety for a proper Batman movie experience.

This is hands down my favorite Batman movie, and Christian Bale is my favorite Batman. Everything about this film, including the casting, just feels so REAL. I LOVE how the gear comes together because it's not just a costume - every single piece of gear has a purpose. The suit isn't just to look cool, it's armor that can stop blades and bullets. The bat ears aren't just to fit in the theme - they hide antennas that help Batman hear everything. Etc. SO GOOD. Y'all are so right that Ras, Crane, and Wayne all use fear differently. For Ras, it's a means of execution to bring down judgment upon a city that he sees as hopelessly corrupt. For Crane, it's an equalizer that enables his intelligence/mental prowess to gain power over the physically strong (who probably bully him). But for Wayne, it's a way to stop the bad guys from controlling others through fear, and turn the tables on them. A "taste of their own medicine". Love the reaction/conversation! Can't wait to watch your TDK reaction next! 🦇

The Batman TV series had a Shakespeare bust that hid the bat cave switch inside. Flip up the head and hit the switch. Kinda iconic to the hilarious TV series.

The kind of humour that you're trying to describe is called "deadpan." It means to make a humorous statement without any kind of humorous inflection so that it takes a moment to land and is (often) funnier for the delay.

White Noise, different versions of Batman use different triggers for entering the Batcave. The original Adam West TV series had its trigger inside a bust of Shakespeare. The second Tim Burton movie had its trigger in a little mansion inside of a fish tank. I don't remember the triggers for the first Tim Burton or the 3rd and 4th movies in the group.

I could be wrong, as I havent seen it since I was a kid, but I wanna say Adam Wests entrance to the bat cave was via a button hidden in the neck of a bust. Though the bat phone may have been on or next to a piano.
