RM spoke candidly once about their early days. They struggled constantly with having confidence, and trying to write music that people wanted to hear. Apparently, the bathroom was the only space where the members could be private and it became the place where they would console each other. Jimin spoke also about crying in the bathroom with Taehyung. So, they not only had outward struggles (like getting on shows, air time) but inward struggles as well. Being an idol means locking all that pain inside and going through your days being cheerful and upbeat despite the doubts. It's amazing what they've accomplished in this uphill battle.

78 yr old ARMY here. I think there are quite a few of us now in older age groups…and more males too judging by the reactions seen in the crowds at the recent concerts. I really enjoy all your Orig videos… watching information videos, your reactions of the music videos and your discussions. Thank you for sharing with us. It was fun to see Taylor on screen too! Taylor, I hope you are making notes about all that BTS has been doing since Festa 2022. I know it is so much work and a lot to ask but I love your Introduction video so much that I fantasize about you making other “BTS Goes On-Chapter Two” video(s)about their group activities and solo work etc in 2022, 23, 24 and into 25 till we are back together. 💜

Representation does matter. This really was brought home to me (after living as an Asian American for 72 years) when I was waiting for a train. This very young African American boy saw and advertisement (at his eye level) that featured an African American youngster ... he became SO EXCITED. There was someone that looked like him...💜

Every time I see BTS when tjey weee so young, I get all teary eyed. I am a 67 year old female and have been a fan of BTS for five years. Was watching on KDrama a re-run of an Award Show and they performed Fire, I was hooked I also learned about BTS by watching reactors. I learned more about BTS thru XCeleste, recommend by a reactor. She has so many short “Documentaries,” especially about their beginnings. I adore BTS and of course I am not dead, they are seven handsome Men. Really enjoyed your reaction 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I'm a big lover of your reaction vids, Jeff's journey, Taylor and her BTS intro vid (that I share with absolutely everyone who asks me about K-pop. I had no idea what we'd be watching in this reaction. I don't care. I love your insights. The Jeff-pause where the convo went deep was so perfect! As a 66yo gay man who grew up without representation, except for the awful kind, I never knew how I would find a way out of how lonely I felt wanting something I didn't know even existed. I felt I never saw people "like me". When I was 18yo it was literally illegal to be gay. It was also still a psychiatric mental illness. And now look where we are. That's how I feel about artists who don't perform in English. The world is getting bigger! Our hearts are opening wider. Watching your beautiful conversation when you paused XCeleste's vid to talk about representation, culturally and artistically, brought tears to my eyes. Watching BTS' struggles brought tears to my eyes. I had to pause the vid several times just to wipe my eyes so I could see you. Artists reflecting on art is one of the finest medicines in all the world. As a former director and writer in theatre I love your insights about their journey, the technology in their videos. I love your journey. I don't miss a reaction from you. They are kind, thoughtful, insightful and quite often make me smile. So thank you for this vid, for all the vids you've shared on Orig Explores. It's funny, probably because I'm not white maybe, but I never saw the Asian aspect of BTS when I became ARMY. I saw artists, and seven young men that came across as 'Real'. I loved their personalities first and then their music. I watch them everyday to put a smile on my face.

I am white, and I do see the Asian aspects of them, but I actually value those. I'm 67 and my mother and her siblings were all born in Asia before WW2. I grew up with stories about the area and the people, and that has left a deep impression on me that I'd hate to have missed. I actively love the differences, the things I don't immediately understand, that I need to work to learn about. And ARMYs are always willing to help which I also love so much.

I found them in fall of 2015 when I was home from the hospital, weak and discouraged and my daughter told me about KZbin and saw a BTS dance video and quickly fell in love with these handsome, super talented young men. It does my heart good to see where they are at now and they so deserved their fame. My grown kids give me a hard time about fan-girling over them. I love them like a proud grandma.

Please react to The MOST BEAUTIFUL LIFE GOES ON: A STORY OF BTS by Rice Squad...It was the first video I watched about BTS journey, struggles, introduction to BTS members and how they were chosen into the group, and the records BTS broke as they became global. It is a complete package and perfect video for those who want to learn about BTS. It gave me so much information not just about BTS but also gave me a glimpse of the Kpop as a whole. I feel they need to do another recount. =0p In my city we have the same. Cupsleeve's with all ages from 5yo to 70's. It's really a beautiful thing. Going to an event later today. So excited to scream about Jimin's new album and MVs. =0) Excited for u to watch more of Rosan's info vids. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

2 things always hit me on this subject, an online quiz back in 2016 asking, who wouldn't you date? Asians won by a landslide. The cruelty of the quiz hit me. The next things was The comments section the night BTS was the musical guest on SNL. Comments saying; I never thought I'd ever seen Asians being the main act. Others confessed to crying seeing an Asian Act headlining the show. Representation matters!

In terms of make-up... I think it's bc "idol" males tend to have even more feminine make-up. Yes, even the toughest rappers or rockers have make-up on for film and stage, and the other glam or other types, it's perceived as stage make-up, I feel. So I think the key is on the very effeminate make-up style. I think around late 2nd gen to 3rd gen periods (I could be wrong, if I didn't get enough exposure), there was an even heightened trend in Asia (bc I saw it from Taiwan's perspective, people in variety shows talking about the new stars coming out from Japan and Korea during those times, as well as local idol stars) for "flower pretty boys" (literal translation for 花美男) trends at the time. It got EVEN more "prettier" around 10+ years ago, I feel. Yes, pretty boys existed long ago already, in terms of Asian pop, since the J-Pop days decades ago, but the heavier and even more feminine makeup, esp. the even more tinted lips and very pronounced eye make-up, I felt a surge in the past 10~15 years. Again, my own observation thru my exposures and experiences. So yes, while any starts on screen and stage put on make-up, even Hollywood actors, they have a whole make-up & hair sessions before attending Oscar and any other red carpet public events. But it wasn't done in heavy "stage" make-up level. And "idol" male tend to have even more make-up in very "pretty" applications. So... What's my point...? Hahaha... (old and senile)... Yes, plenty of non-females apply make up, no matter for stage or film or in real life, but even the S.K guys in more metropolitan places (less common in suburbs and country side, many are also against the idol male make-up) apply make-up (from what I know of, it's like concealer, bb cream, basics to help with complexion), typically those are still no where near the "idol" level of make-up styles and extent. ... I guess what I'm trying to say is I can see where the general sentiments or confusion or disagreements come from, bc "idol" make up for males is NOT typical, in my opinion (again), even among those males that do use make-up. And then with the K Hip Hop thing, those criticisms, especially from B Free (he's a jerk to begin with anyways), it comes from another place, I feel, since... I guess the underground circles... there might be some other sense of validation... umm... like they have their own insecurities among mainstream big successful stars, and it was just easy to take it out towards idol rappers, who they already look down on anyways (which yes, idol rappers, many are not to par, sorry to say, yes, some really good ones, but... not all for sure), and for the likes of RM and SUGA that came from underground hip hop circle, became idols (they had their own insecurities about it also), it's even more difficult, bc they're a HYBRID in a sense... stuck in the middle. I can understand the criticisms, but for BTS's case, it was even more severe, and the KHH circles, some could feel insecure or jealous, hence accusing them of selling out and all that. And not all are toxic, but it's unfortunate they have to face such toxic treatments. Also! Another point people new to kpop, esp. in the west, may not be aware of, is that "idol" music's was and is still not being taken seriously among "adults" even in SK. It's stereotypically frivolous and superficial. Yes, SNSD and Big Bang were super big, but there's still a sense of "they're idols"... It's apparent in some interviews and treatments by companies and media in general. But with BTS making it so big in the west, and then now many other idol groups also gaining prominence, it did change some people's perception, esp. of BTS, that they're not "just frivolous idols" but actual artists with depth and NOT manufactured. Manufactured IS a real thing (ask SM and the even older OG J-Pop idols), but that's also why Bang-PD wanted to change that culture. He mentioned it on that CNN segment interview. He didn't say it didn't exist, but that many stereotypical things were in the past and getting better now (but still a long ways to go). Still so many agencies and their owners and managers treat idols poorly, which is exactly bc the general value perceived at idols were low... Just think how can the owners treat Omega members to such horrible levels of abuse, bc not thinking they are normal human beings, more lowly stature, that they would feel justified to impose such inhumane behaviors. There are still a lot of "old ways" that are toxic, and it'll take more time and people and company's efforts to CONTINUE the change, for thr better, and it's good seeing Bang-PD with that vision to set an example and raise the bar for the kpop industry. Maybe one day it'll become more and more the norm, and others will have to follow suit (and when the old ones are old enough that they retire and the new bloods are less exploitative... one would hope...). Wow... I tangent off from make-up to idol treatments... I was making a point of how they are perceived I guess. Especially those in the West that isn't familiar of the pop cultures in the East, might mistaken these make-up or fashion choices are "norm" in Asia, when actually, it is quite distinctively "idol" genre moat of the time. So the whole hate thing from those KHH toxic ones... it's understandable (but not justified!!!) in some certain contexts... The full on idol make-up is not a norm even in Asia everyday culture either. Thr idols don't go walking around in the streets in those make up. It's stage make up afterall... (oh no... how do I close this long ass and all over the place post... umm... just STOP maybe? Haha)

Iggy Pop, Twisted Sister, Boy George and the list goes on. Honestly calling out people for wearing make-up as musicians is a surprise to me. I'm wondering if it has something to do with generations because in the 80's it was all over the place and most of us never batted an eye at it. David Bowie was definitely a big one for this and there were some people and media that flinched over it but the general public was not as offended as some people I see today who see men wearing make--up as a strange thing.

In the days of Queen and Adam Ant and, let us not forget, Alice Cooper, makeup was nothing unusual after all anyone on stage wears makeup. Where it differs today is it is more normal for men to wear makeup in everyday life. It's truly unforgiveable to call them, 'little Asian boys'. Their skill was and still is overlooked. I was recently on a group holiday with a 50 year old guy who was a Steps fan yet when I mentioned BTS he ridiculed me. The only thing I can put it down to is jealousy that I follow a group who work their socks off and are the biggest group in the world.

on the make-up thing. Woman have had to wear make-up to go to the grocery store for decades, do our hair, be well groomed in every way to be accepted in polite society. IT's about time guys upped their hygiene game. My granddaughter is not interested in American guys at all . She says they aren't clean. LOL . So guys, shave your beards, wash your face , clean you nails, and what's going on with those eyebrow? and use a little cover up when needed, we have to.

As one reactor pointed out regarding hip hop/rapping and makeup - the comments those guys made completely discounted all of the women within the industry with that nonsense. Oh, so "girls" can't rap or do hip hop? I think Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Nicki Minaj and people like that might disagree. Oh and I'm 53

To me, 8:19 that’s very strange because there were Asian figures. I think I was more puzzled why history was about one country and not all countries

Once thing I have learned is one needs a voice to speak or find another to communicate as others won’t mind silencing someone’s voice even if someone is not vocal

I would like to say a big "thank you" for your excellent guide to BTS, I found it very informative. I am a 70 year old Army from the UK, and dont understand why you call yourselves "non white". It seems to me that Korean people are very white. I dont really understand why you would bring skin colour in at all when considering music?

Judy, I can assure you that these opinions and separations according to skin tones are perpetrated by people with very little melanin in their skin. Asians have been taught by European descendants that they are not qualified to be called "white." At least here in America, people are prejudiced about which races produce what types of music/art. Unfortunately, the US is ruling the world of music. BTS's popularity seems to be changing this for the better. Borahae! 💜

It gave me so much information not just about BTS but also gave a glimpse of the Kpop as a whole. And it is already narrated in English!!! It is so helpful.
