I’m going to be honest, darkskin women and darkskin men don’t experience colorism the same way👏🏿I said I what I said, I have seen what I’ve seen. And most of my bullies were darkskin men, some even darker than me. Hell, I literally had to stop dating black men because because being around them would give me such anxiety, I was scared to be made fun of and called names🤦🏿‍♀️

@@PrincessYonna1 Black men do experience colorism. But it just so happens that it works in their favor. Because dark skin is seen as more masculine. So they think that they are being treated more masculine like a man, but in actuality it is colorism. They just refuse to see it that way because they would have to admit that colorism is real and that they aren’t just treated like a man because they are a man.

As dark skinned male I’ve had that same experience of being made fun of by people darker than me. But what they said was nothing compared to what my parents said about my skin them both being of lighter skin tone. They were pretty much embarrassed having me as a son. Honestly, I just think this whole battle of light skin vs dark skin his just horrible on so many levels and causes more harm than anything. Wish we as a “community” can actually work on that

There was a white kid in my school that started hanging out with the popular blk guys in our grade. He went from goofy white kid to acting like a black kid. It was interesting to watch throughout the years. He still to this day is like that bc of his friend group influence. I'm not gonna say light skinned girls aren't bullied because a lot of them are and we need to talk about it. HOWEVER, what I dont like is that it's used as a rebuttal of colorism as opposed to recognizing that its an EFFECT of colorism. If we were to eradicate colorism, that whole "I'm going to beat you up so you can feel the pain of what it's like being dark skinned" wouldn't exist. The dark girls pain wouldn't exist, and the light girls pain wouldn't exist because we wouldn't be propping one up at the expense of the other. This all depends on who is in the majority. If you are in a black community with dark-skin being dominant and you the only light-skinned person, then yes, there will be tension and vice versa. People forget that in general, most people, regardless of the race etc are bullies, with little moral and self-control. So if you stand out, you will be harassed. I think back then, being light-skinned or biracial placed you in a position of being unwanted by both parties. Now, some of us just hyped and disrespectful about it. It was either you are not black enough or you are behaving like you are "white", better than "us".

They would critique my hair, call it extremely dry, frizzy or ugly, or ask me in a mocking way if I was even using conditioner. They would also give me the AWESOME advice to just bRuSh it, which, anyone with an even slightly curly hair knows is just about the dumbest thing you could say. My mom would sometimes apologize for giving me curly hair genes even tho I really love my hair. Her experiences with racism just made her feel like a life as someone who was lighter and with straight hair would be better. I'm a white YA author and I purposefully wrote the main character of my newest series as a dark skinned black woman, because my intention is for young women like her to see themselves as the hero too, and for young black actresses to get roles if the series is ever adapted into something. The reason I do this is not to be recognized or famous but because I love to write and if I am going to write, I want to help fix the awful system that I was born into and benefited from. The amount of shit I have got from the publishing, film and etc community for this has been non-stop. And almost none of it has been from POC. It's all white people who just want to see Halle Berry again because that's what they're comfortable with. Nothing wrong with HB btw no hate to her, my point is just that colorism is gross. Thank you very much for making this video btw. And for having your channel. You're awesome.

Dark skin is associated with masculinity as a part of misogynoir, benefital for black men. There's never a too masculine man and toxic masculinity standards uplift men the more void of femininity they are( homophobia in the black community). It dually defeminizes black women, reaffirms the stereotype that black women look like men and enforcing eurocentric beauty standards of fair complexion, eurofeaturism and petiteness being required part of femininity.

I'd say we have privilege within the black community. Definitely not treated like dark skinned people, I've even had some people call me lightskin, so i feel like we definitely have privilege, i didn't even know brown skin was a thing until a friend of mine called me that. However to white people we might as well be the same as dark skin people. You look out of place to them even next to someone light skin and they just see another black person. I dated a white guy and he said that he'd actually consider me dark skinned. So in the community seems we have privilege, outside of the community we probably are not treated exactly the same as someone a few shades darker, but i don't necessarily think we get any privilege and are treated the same as any other black person. This is all from my experience though, my sisters and father are darker than me and i have never ever seen them treated differently than me around non black people.

Colorism is something I could talk about forever. It’s so present in so many aspects of our lives, not just for African-Americans, but all of those with dark complexions throughout the world. I’D be considered brown skin in the USA, but growing up with a family that has a variety of shades, Ive always had a love and respect for all black people. It made me so mad when “Light Girls” came out AFTER the documentary Dark Girls did. I didn’t even want to see the Hate You Give when I realized they made Amandala the star and I knew the cover had a dark skinned young woman. Someone pointed out, light skinned people don’t raise an issue on colorism until dark skinned people do. Colorism affects both spectrums, but one spectrum doesn’t come with privilege and it’s like that’s the part people fail to realize. I’ve been told I’m the darkest a guy will date and he wasnt much lighter than me! His disgust towards DSMW made so uncomfortable bc I couldn’t understand it. I don’t know if there will ever be a day where colorism is acknowledged by the black community as a whole. But you’re no better than a racist if you perpetuate prejudice onto your own people for the same reason a racist would to another race.

Same Saeed: Online dating sites notice a ot of discrimination against black women. There is a thin line between preference & bias. Don't let anyone tell u different.

That's his lost! Ironically, many light skinned women and other races get jealous when white guys date dark skinned women. Usually white men tend to date a "real" sistah over the lighter ones.

I think it depends on you were you live like the city and community. I grew up just knowing I was black; didn’t know anything about light skin or dark and my family has a variety of skin tones from light to dark skin. It was around when I was in 6th grade that I noticed kids at school would treat me a bit differently, but didn’t know why. By 7th grade they were laughing at me and telling me I was too dark, and no one wanted to be my girlfriend cuz I was black...they nicknamed me “the darkness.” My school had very little people of color; there was like 2 black girls, myself included, and 1 black boy. I was even told I couldn’t win best hair cuz my hair wasn’t good enough. The crazy thing is that it wasn’t til my family was on vacation and some darker skin girls saw me at the store, 4 high schoolers, they mad dogged me; they started getting angry with me, mentioned how my skin was “light,” and made comments like “oh, I bet she thinks she’s all that cuz her skin light, lets teach her a listen and jump her.” They didn’t know the other black peoples in the store was my family (12 of us), and my older sisters who are darker than me straight up told them will not be getting anywhere their little sister. I didn’t know I was “light” skinned cuz at school I was considered to be dark skinned, but as I got older I realized that I’m right in middle and depending on where I was, I was either light or too dark. Some of my sisters being dark skinned, made me wonder what they’ve gone through in middle and high school cuz if they did that to me, what happened to them. One of my sisters actually lies about being mixed til this day cuz it’s in her head that in order to pretty she needs to be light skinned....she’s darker than me, has milk chocolate skin tone and looks like a model. This is why I don’t understand why people are so caught up in being a “light” skinned or “mixed” black cuz at the end of the day you’re black, and they look at all of us the same, but they use colorism to keep our people divided and and fighting amongst ourselves. It’s the very reason they created the idea of “the model minority: Asians (Indian, Japanese, Korean, etc) are intelligent; Latinos and Native Americans are exotic cuz they have black skin tones with white peoples hair and are hard workers, but they’re not as smart as Asians; Middle Eastern peopl or those that look like are treated like terrorist; Black /African people are looked at as lazy, thugs, criminals, and who lack intelligence, but light skinned peoples aren’t as bad cuz their skin is lighter. Smh they had to find a way separate minorities ( we’re actually the majority) cuz they treated us like animals and saw us all coming together fighting against slavery, racism, and systematic racism; why America doesn’t tell you about asian slaves,?and why they sugarcoat and cover up how they actually treated Native Americans, and why they’re trying to downplay Black slavery.

Your story sounds fictional asf! People do not talk like that “oh, I bet she thinks she’s all that cuz her skin light, lets teach her a listen and jump her.” lol Sounds like a cheap cartoon satire.
