That "you know when he's coming"/"it really screams... 'he's coming!!!'" joke gets me every time with these 😂 Also one of my favorite DBZA episodes because we start seeing TFS lean into more character-interaction humor (which maybe happened a little previously, but now with more characters and them being established it works nicely) and their production quality really spikes here, right down to the sound design too thanks to Scott/KaiserNeko. Also, on the post-DBZA question, I'm sure you probably know, but you do have the Dragon ShortZ and HFIL series they've done too; if you're leaning on going into DBKai for Buu, I'd watch the ShortZ first since they're set in the time gap between the end of Cell and start of Buu and help set things up some. HFIL also seems to be building to that too. If you want to do Kai from scratch first, might recommend looking up "Dragon Ball Kai Recut;" it's a fan edit by IAmTheMilkman that removes even more filler from Kai that was somehow kept and makes it more streamlined as a result; he's only done Saiyan - Cell sagas so far (he's waiting on a color correction project being released before doing Buu), but it makes those 98 episodes 82 instead (also keeps the score that ends up being haphazardly replaced after a scandal happened lol). It's a fun watch! (Also hope to see you guys watch the DBKai Abridged episodes TFS did!)

The kai buu saga fits surprisingly well. The characters at their core doesn't change, only the stuff overexaggerated for the sake of comedy is. At least I find the jump non issue... but that could stem from having read the manga first.

I think going into DBZA and then the Kai Buu Saga then onto Super would be a lot of fun, you're not really missing out on any plots points especially from here on out they're got really good at writing characters that're unique and funny in their own way but still fit the story

I'd even argue the Andriods are way better in DBZA then actual DBZ, the dub gave them emotionless voices with no real character and the editor/main writer for DBZA wanted them to actually have personality and he killed it, I havent watched Super in the dub but the Japanese VA's are also way better than the dub

On the subject of jumping into the actual show: Aside from checking out the original Dragon Ball [with kid Goku] I know another reaction channel went straight from Abridged to Kai, continuing off from where Abridged ended. And they seem to enjoy it and follow along with everything just fine. Only thing that got missed was who a side character was [Baba]. Which could be covered by watching original Dragonball~

There are a few channels that have reacted to the buu saga in totality and I'd be 100% down for that. Abridged gets you all the important plot points so he wouldn't be too confused, just the shift in character personality would take a little getting used to. tbh, buu and the start of the arc is goofy enough for it to not be that much of change to get used to.

At this point, I don't think it makes sense to split this arc between the androids and Cell. Narratively speaking, the conflict with the androids does not get resolved before Cell is introduced, and his existence is narratively tied to both Dr. Gero and time traveling from the future. From the time Mecha Freeza shows up to the end of the Cell Games, it's all part of the same story. I'm not sure what sense it makes for this arc to be split like that.

If you want to watch dbz kai go for it! It's actually better than the og (in some aspects not all) but the voice acting, pace, and script are far superior in my opinion. Kai is split into 2 different shows which are known as "Dragon Ball Kai" and "Dragon Ball Kai The Final Chapters" the first show has a total of 98 episodes which covers the Saiyan saga all the way to the end of the cell saga and the second show covers the Buu saga. For reference Goku is still on Namek in episode 98 of the og series whereas in DBZ Kai episode 98 is the end off cell saga so it's much much quicker to get through and more enjoyable if you have an issue with the og shows slow pace.
