I think you like songs that are more upbeat and more of a Western style music, then GFRIEND title tracks will not fit your preference, as they are more on the orchestral pop and nostalgic concept. So, I recommend you check their B-sides track. That's something you'll definitely love because it varies from their usual style but still keeping their signature sound. I highly recommend, L.U.V., Crème Brûlée, Neverland, and Labyrinth. For title tracks, I think you would like Fingertip and Navillera. But honestly, SUNRISE is a bop. Hope you can react to it too, although it's an orchestral pop but you will definitely be impressed with their vocals.

I’m not claiming to know a lot about Gfriend bc I don’t but, Gfriend is one of those groups that has rich lore behind their Mvs and concepts. They are watched in a specific order and tbh, the story is super hard to follow unless you dig and research on your own. The style of their music used to be very bubble-gum pop, something I personally am not a fan of but, I have recently got into them more as the style of their music has matured. I also love the Jpop/anime OST flare their music has. They are under Source Music which has recently become a subsidiary under Big Hit. I think I heard that Bang Shi Hyuk, CEO and producer of Big Hit, worked on Apple and the album with them which is why their music sounds a bit different from their earlier releases. Still amazing though. I’m glad you’re checking out so many groups!

I would argue that Solji from exid is in the top if not the best. Also melody days main vocal is quite good but again disbanded group so dno if it counts but she has also managed to win king of masked singer. Not saying Yuju is not in the top but dno if she is the best. Hmm maybe we should have Austin do his own ranking :D

If you want to hear more their vocals I recomend Sunrise, Rough, Me Gustas Tu, Time For The Moon Light and their Japanese song Fallin' Light. One group that I really recomend is Berry Good, they are an underrated group (unfortunatelly). There are 5 members: Johyun (main rapper, lead dancer, vocalist and visual), Seoyul (main dancer and lead vocalist), Daye (lead vocalist rapper), Sehyung (lead rapper) and Gowoon (main vocalist and maknae). They debuted in 2014 with 5 members (Subin, Yira, Nayeon, Taeha and Gowoon) with the song Love Letter, but in 2015 Subin, Yira and Nayeon left the group, so Seoyul, Daye and Sehyung entered. In 2016 they putted another member (Johyun), so Berry Good became 6 members. Last year Taeha left. Songs that I recomend: Angel - Shows a lot their vocals (without Johyun, before her entrance in group) Don't Believe (with Johyun) Green Apple (with Johyun)

"This kinda sounds like Dreamcatcher with all the rock taken out" This is exactly what many other people think! That Dreamcatcher and Gfriend are like sister groups from a different parent, both taking a very similar style. They're both Queens of concept, telling a story in a very supernatural context, as well as specializing in choreo, whilst also boasting some particularly notable vocals - some of the best in the industry in fact, when we look at their main vocals. The groups are like the opposite ends of the same style, two different endings to the same story. :)

Dreamcatcher can do (and had done) just about any style of sound now and their fans will stick with them. Not the largest group of followers but certainly dedicated

Okay. I just finished watching your reaction. Loved it btw. I think it was fair. Just sharing some thoughts on this, Apple is their latest comeback and is the biggest deviation from the sound they were known for. It was also very divisive with the fan base and that shows with how the song charted and how it did with the music shows. I, personally, really like it though. It felt like the natural progression with their sound as they matured as a group. They have been at it for 5 years now. Crossroads was also criticised by the fans. It was a good song, but it didn't capture the same magic as the earlier songs they had with the same concept. Crossroads as a song and MV was meant to put the story from Time from the moonight to an end. And in that context I thought it was okay. The B-Side labirynth, released alongside crossroads, was what I felt should've been the real title track but crossroads just felt a better end to the story. Fever was a really good summer song. But GFriend usually puts out summer songs without a relation to their other songs. They take it as an opportunity to expand and experiment with their sound and Fever was just perfect. But what GFriend is most known for, and what really blew up their popularity and rankings was their song rough. Rough at this point is just legendary as a kpop song. So, I would suggest that you check out their earlier songs if you want. Most notably Rough and Navillera. Those 2 songs got released one after another and cemented GFriend as a group to be watched and to be excited about. Especially coming from a label not the Big Three. Gfriend is also known for their choreography. Like before all of these amazing dancing groups, GFriend was probably the first Girl group to emphasize their dance and that Girl groups can have complex and execution sensitive choreographies. With all the different formations and especially synchronization. Okay I wasn't expecting to write this much. But I really like GFriend. Them and Dreamcatcher are my ultimate groups.

They're still under Source Music. A year or so ago Big Hit bought Source Music but they're still running it as an independent company. It's the same thing with Pledis. Also, you really need to check out "Time for the Moon Night" and "Sunrise". Those are my two favorite GFriend songs. I actually prefer "Crossroads" to "Apple". I love the soaring strings in their music. I had enjoyed all of their output until they released "Labyrinth" and "Apple". In my opinion, those songs aren't GFriend's style.
@coolgirl3124 жыл бұрын
So they're not actually under Big Hit Entertainment themselves, their company merged with Big Hit last year so its now a subsidiary of Big Hit but they're still under Source Music and considered Source Music artists. The 3 songs you checked out from them are probably 3 of their most experimental from the sound they're known for. For "Apple" they wanted to do a completely different sound and concept, for "Fever" it was pretty much a summer song that doesn't connect to their other music or MVs, and for "CrossRoads" the music is similar to some of their other releases but they took like a cinamatic approach to filming the MV, it tells a story and essentially ties to almost every title track they've come out with since debut (notice there was not singing or choreography in the MV). Gfriend isn't very known internationally but they are really popular in Korea. They came from a small unknown company, Source Music and managed to make it to the top of the industry and are standing alongside girl groups from the biggest companies like Twice, Red Velvet, and Blackpink. Its funny how you connected them to DreamCatcher because in a way, for the longest time, they were like the opposite of DreamCatcher but on the same parallel plane. Both groups are known for their unique music which features heavy instrumentals and their powerful choreography. Gfriend was like the "Bright and Pure" to DreamCatcher's "Dark and Possessed". But Gfriend did start playing around with other concepts in the past year or so. Seriously I can go on all day about Gfriend. I know their older stuff may not be your taste but I think you should check out some of their older stuff when you have a chance becuase its really good. "Rough" "Love Whisper" "Sunrise"

Yes #1 vocal in kpop is Yuju Gfriend. Want a vocal challenging song? Check out her OST for drama. Secret. You'll be blown away And you seem to like catchy songs with great vocals, try their bsides cause most their title tracks are following the storyline. Some bside songs are better than title tracks but title tracks are there for the concept. Though, their bside songs actually compliments the whole album concept, as if it tells a story of the same timeline but in different genre WHICH IS AMAZING. Also since you like Eunha voice, you will definitely love Sunrise! To be honest, im a hardcore buddy and Crossroad gave me alot of confusing feels. After listening to it for few times plus understanding the lyrics, it seems like they made they song for listeners to feel confused and don't know what to feel. That's what the emotion of the song try to deliver at first place. As if you're standing at crossroad. Don't know where to go, don't know whether you like it or hate it, sometimes you might make pre-assumptions of whether some path is good or bad before even going through it. And, it's such a masterpiece after you understands the song.

They should have suggested Sunrise instead of Crossroads! I love GFriend and I do like Crossroads, I just feel that it's not really a song that you love at first. It takes playing it a few times and definitely watching them perform it live (I know you can't post those videos, but you should watch them by yourself). As some other comments say, you should definitely check some of their older stuff. I must say that their style back then was a bit too cutesy for my liking, but after I became a fan of theirs with Time for the moon night, I started to appreciate the cuter songs (especially Navillera) and there you can hear Yuju's voice better!

It's not the lesbian thing going on, in the first song " apple " the girls kissed the apple xd and the lyrics were talking about temptation and stuff. How they're being tempted by the apples but they didn't give into the darkness, they burned the apple tree. And they became the apple/sirens themselves. Gfriend latest album is called " song of the sirens " so you might've noticed there was a part in the lyrics that goes ' wee wow wow wow ' it's like a sirens sound trying to lure sailors in the sea. (That's one theory 😂) Crossroads definitely had gfriend's signature sound which has like a lot of instrumental/orchestra sounds. One of the members said that crossroads is a song that grows on you more over time like when you try new food, it looks a bit weird at first but you keep on eating it and later realize it's actually not that bad and you like it xd. The mv is also describing their storylines so if you're a new listener, it might be a little hard to grasp what's really happening. (Which you don't have to, you can just chill and enjoy the songs xd) Fever, a classics gfriend summer song, we love to see it. Nothing to say much except it's a very refreshing type of song? Also a bop, ofc 😂 Gfriend has two signature sounds (one being the instrumental, orchestra type of sound and another being anime-ish ost type of sounds) since you listen to dreamcatcher, you might like their side tracks a bit more than the title tracks. Gfriend is very versatile with their music and they make a lot of options, varieties for you to choose from so hopefully you'll find something you like in the near future. Thanks for checking the girls out. I appreciate it ❤

Ever since Gfriend debuted, Yuju has been known as one of the top 3 vocalists of the third generation girl groups but recently solidified her place as number 1. She even explained that since their dancing practices were so rigorous when they were trainees and she wasn't that good of a dancer back then (she's amazing now), she can't hit as high of notes as she used to. I don't know if she still does this but to maintain her voice she only eats bread once a month, always speaks quietly, makes sure not to speak too much starting the night before if they have to sing, and one time, it got too cold in the room so she tried to turn off the air conditioning for her throat and ended up... No one really knows how... With a broken arm. Girl works for her vocals and it slays!

Here's my take on GFriend's style of singing. The earlier songs were for showcasing what they can do (singing, dancing, etc), from their debut song Glass Bead to Sunrise in 2019 with almost consistent song vibe with their signature synth and strings, like orchestral type music. After that period, GFriend was actually experimenting on the genres. Fever and Apple are some of them. So yeah, the one you're watching indeed don't have that much challenging singing techniques because it's already past the period. Also, most of GFriend songs aren't EDM based, so maybe you won't like those either. But hey, thanks for checking them out! I'm really hoping I was wrong and that you finally like their song!

There was a rumour that Yuju had a throat injury as she once disappeared a month suddenly with no reason(after Time for the moon night comeback). After she came back she lose a lot of weight and have a difficulty of hitting hight notes. If you compare the old and new Gfirind songs and live you can hear the difference between Yuju ‘s voice. Actually she has been the main vocal for years and she needs to sing a lot of parts including powerful high notes mostly every song. So I think it is possible and hope Yuju can take enough rest.

I suggest you check out more of their songs they're really great and I think you're gonna like them more. I'd suggest Summer Rain, Navillera, and Love Whisper. GFRIEND definitely changed their sound since TimeForTheMoonNight. Before they had THE GFriend sound and they were known for it so changing concepts like this was risky but it was well received. I think you'd like the old GFriend sound better but I think this new concept fits them better as they've grown older and matured more. their B-Sides with this new concept are SO FRICKING GOOD. Omg that was a lot wow. the person you were speaking of was Yuju, their main vocalist. She's one of the most well rounded idols I've seen since I started listening to kpop(and it's been a while lmao)She def shone more with their previous sound cuz of her high notes in literally all their songs and that wasn't very healthy for her(belting all the time like that) so with this new concept she's kinda more chill with the vocals but she STILL SOUNDS AMAZING IDEK HOW LIKE CAN I BE THAT TALENTED PLS??? I'll stop talking now lolll
@chelseaoduro49294 жыл бұрын
The girl you liked is Eunha. She's a lead vocalist and her voice is very sweet and soothing. She's shining more with this new concept because she's become like-for lack of better words- the new "high note hitter" so Yuju can rest her voice.Her voice became very shaky with high notes and she started cracking more so I feel she needs this "belting break" She's been belting since 2015(till about late 2018) A LOT since they're popular in SK and they're always booked and performing so ofc her voice is gonna get shot even with her good technique.

I would say, hope I don’t get backlash from this, that crossroads is the most gfriend song between the three. And by this I mean it has more sounds that actually defined gfriend style through the years, while Apple and Fever are more experimental. Time for the moon night is my favorite from them and one of my fav songs in Kpop.

More like sleeping beauty. Another thing to remember about apples in KPOP videos, the Korean word for apple sounds very similar to a word for forgiveness, therefore an apple is often used as a visual shorthand for that (or lack thereof, as in SNSD's "You Think").

I'm not a "kpop fan" but recently I started listening to Gfriend music and I really like it, it's the only Kpop group that I like, there's something on their voices that catched me, and also the rythm and composition in general that I like so much, you know, I think that every song was so well produced.
@richter44464 жыл бұрын
Definitely Yuju, when you talked about it in the Apple MV, you paused right at her face :) Would recommend checking out their earlier stuff too like Sunrise, Rough, Time For The Moon Night. The group are more known for their melancholy orchestral sound than Apple's sound.Though you'll probably like their track, Fingertip because it's also very funky

Gfriend belongs to the group that i really love because i am really fascinated to their talent and attitudes. Their singing and also their on point and sync dance moves it blows me away. Edit:Can you react to other groups outside Korea(especially SB19 the first Boygroup in Philippines that is under a Korean Management)

Please react to BVNDIT! They’re a rookie group that debuted last year and they’re pretty underrated. Their debut song was ‘Hocus Pocus’ and their latest song was ‘Jungle.’ My favorite title track by them is definitely ‘Dumb.’ They also have MVs for some for some of their bsides.
@hannahespino68324 жыл бұрын
They have a storyline, their music videos, songs, and albums are connected to each other (except for their summer songs like Sunny Summer and Fever), it’s like a series that you have to watch episode by episode for you to be able to understand what’s going on in most of their videos. 😄 So it’s really hard to understand for a first time viewer especially if you do it backwards like the way you did, with Apple being their most recent comeback which you watched first, and then crossroads. So I totally understand your confusion with the first two videos. 😅 But if you wanna understand what’s going on, you’ve got to watch from their debut song Glass Bead all the way up to Apple. And if you want something that’s vocally capturing you should listen to their ballads From Me, and “Here We Are”. I once watched a vocal coach who reacted to it and she liked those two best out of all the other songs of GFriend that she reacted to. And thanks for reacting to GFriend. ❤️

Thank yoh for reacting to gfriend. It's so nice to hear new perspective. If you want to hear them vocally more punching (lol) you should react to Sunrise, Time for the moon night, Glass bead, me gustas tu, rough, Navillera, love whisper even labyrinth. Tons of high note there.

If you want to hear more about their vocals, i will recommend you three more. 1. Rough 2. Time for the moon night 3. Sunrise Note: but you need to bear with their storyline, cz that one of their trendmark. I really appreciate your reaction too ^^

Search for Yuju (stan talent) covering "speechless" and Yuju's "Love Rain" with Suran (who I recommend you to check after hearing this song, unique voice, talent and great music), as well as Eunha (the one you said you loved her voice) "Dont come with bye", perfect vocals. I love some GFriend, I think they're the most unique and versatile group, and they're so selfmade and honest, I love them xD. Nice to see you reacting to them :3

In the parts you said "they have a vocalist" in apple they actually 3 members doing the same high G5 note Yuju: Main vocalist Eunha: Lead vocalist Umji: Sub vocalist. These 3 where in charge of the highest notes in the song :)

Gfriend's strong suit is telling a story through their vocals. I think the way they sing each song they release is very effective in the narrative they want to relay. If you want a vocally outstanding song from gfriend, they have TFTMN, and Sunrise. The narratives of those songs are mostly meant to share the inner turmoil someone who is sad have. It's also crazy how TFTMN is much more upbeat than Crossroads yet shares the same feeling. I think Crossroads is more targeted towards people who lean on emotions more than catchiness of tune since I'm the type who like those songs more. If you want really catchy songs, try Labyrinth (it's a b-side but it's worth it), MAGO, and Fingertip (it's such a funky comeback).

I don't think too many people will recommend it since its a Japanese release but since you liked Eunha you should check out "Fallin' Light" she shines in that (Its also considered one of their best songs)

Buddy of almost five years here! The songs you reacted to here include two of their most divisive titles 😂 A lot of people didn’t care for Crossroads (it’s my favorite title because I love the longing in the lyrics, haha), and the same goes for Fever. Apple is a big favorite, though! I suggest their first three titles: Glass Bead, Me Gustas Tu, and Rough as it’s their school trilogy and is what rocketed them to stardom by pure chance. Navillera and Summer Rain are two that I would suggest as well (Navillera is a major favorite of Buddies, usually!)

GFRIEND (yocha-chingu) was always a very girly-cheesy-naive group for years since their debut in 2015, that suddenly made a turnaround and became more mature a few months ago with "Fever". You have seen the remnants of that side in "Crossroads" and noticed you were confused, so you might or might not like their previous works, as they are completely different and too childish. Kpop music can be very seasonal, and you find happy songs in summer and emotional ones in winter... check the month of release!

I recommend to start from debut. I am confident that you will not regret it. They actually started from unknown company. They strived hard, did their very best and they are professional, thats the reason i loved them next to SNSD.

Omg Sir Austin you’re actually catching onto all of my favorite groups lol (my top 3 are Mamamoo, Dreamcatcher, Gfriend 😀) I kind of find it funny that you started out with Apple (although it’s understandable since it’s their latest release). Apple was a HUGE transformation from their usual style (which is more Crossroads-like), and that ended up being your first impression of them 😂 I would say that Gfriend’s music has three phases: the powerful innocent stage, the sentimental stage, and their mature stage. I wouldn’t say they’re a group of many concepts, they actually have a very distinct sound (and get dissed by haters for having songs that “sound exactly the same” unfortunately). If you want something from their powerful innocent stage, check out their school trilogy: Glass Bead, Me Gustas Tu, and Rough (arguably their most iconic song that got a whopping 15 wins) If you want to check out their sentimental music, there’s Time for the Moon Night, Sunrise (my personal top 2, the vocals are 🔥), Summer Rain. Crossroads falls in this category too. Although you may have not liked Crossroads, please do give the songs above a chance. Crossroads is also one of my lesser favorite songs, but I LOVE the other three, so hopefully you will too :) You already checked out their mature music: Fever and Apple. The girl whose voice you really like is Eunha, the lead vocalist. She’s been handling more of the high notes recently to give Yuju (the belter as you said), the main vocalist, a rest. If you want a taste of Yuju showcasing her vocals, Gfriend’s early discography is FULL of them. You should also check out Yuju’s predebut clips because she slays. Lastly, you ask if their videos are usually that high production. They’ve actually come super far, and their debut mv was filmed in a high school gym because their company had no budget. The CEO even sold his house to give Gfriend a chance, and fortunately they made it big 😀 I hope this helped :) Anyways, it’s totally fine if you only like some of their songs. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I actually feel the same way about some of the other groups I stan.
