Stolas is based on the demon from the Ars Goetia, the Great Prince of Hell Stolas, who is also depicted as a crowned owl with long legs. Additionally, according to Viv, Stolas is not an Overlord but is part of a separate hierarchal level which is also referred to as the Goetia Demons.

They are the lowest on the known social hierarchy...but are technically supposed to be above sinners, who obviously aren't hellborne, can't generally leave the pride ring, and can't reproduce.

This is the episode that throws away any expectations one has of this being a straight up comedy. It's a true sitcom. There's jokes aplenty, but the characters also deal with a lot of heavy stuff, mostly personal and you'll see what I mean as you go.

The primary problem I had with the voice change was old Stolas sounded more menacing Now he just sounds like a sweetheart. We got more of the menace in later episode but the same time I still see him as a sweety. If they kept the old voice I would have been more guarded with him.

This Episode tells us even more about Stolas and his Family. The first thing that tells us something is up is the line "i used to think love would be fun". The Fact that Stella doent care much about that Stolas cheatet on her but with what he slept.( an imp. a Imp is the lowest ranke demon of all.) Her Eyes-rolling at the Picture with little Octavia and Stolas at LooLoo Land. The Marriage between these two was arranged. Maybe Stolas had feeelings for her, but these disappeared over time. I think that she doenst even care about her child. She didnt get up to care for her crying child and Stolas only sigh's because he knows there is no point. sh As a Noblewoman its her job to get noble childs, but that doesnt mean she has to Love it what is the case here. She will Play along the good Mother and even wouldnt leave the "Cheating" Stolas to maintain the Picture eof the Royale Family and here Royale Satus which is everythig to her. at the end when Stolas tries to find words ge doenst want to Hurt Octavia more by telling her things like " Youe need to Understand ..Your mother and i.... were never in Love, she's allways been Cold, i felt not attractet to her, i havnt been in Love, etc. and how are you gonna tell your Daughter that she was only a Thing, a Duty, between two people who doesnt Love each other? He Loves his Daughter and because of that he wanted to take her out of the Screaming and fighting. so he goes with her to a Place he thinks she loves. He's a good Daddy. sorry for the maybe bad grammar or overall bad English :D

People always bring up the "she didn't get up to care for her crying child" but it's something that happens always irl too, when a parent is too tired and asks the other to go and check. Think of the lion king: mufasa asks her to go check and she responds like "in the morning he's your son" (due to the "everything the light touches" so in the morning it's his turn)

@@riccardomosena4162 Its not just that one moment of her not wanting to get up, but add in= 1- Octavia's nightmare was centered on her dad not being there for her, suggest she's more used to him being around 2- all the family pictures shows any love between parent and child it's always Stolas in that role, showering attention and love on Octavia. we don't see Stella give Octavia any love. 3- in her childhood drawings, its Stolas with her, no drawing of her mom.

Because Stolas is based on an actual owl demon whose powers involve astrology, Stolas actually took Octavia to an exploding galaxy. They were there to watch the galaxy die. I can't wait for their family powers to be explored. Stella doesn't care that Stolas cheated. She cares that he cheated with an imp. Imps are on the very bottom of Hell's inhabitants, like... lower than dirt in some eyes. Which is insane since they're born there. She's also pissed off that Stolas apparently usually takes Blitz to a motel "like a fucking plebian" as she says when she's yelling at him in the kitchen. So Stella obviously cares more about the family image over her actual family, which is pressed again when you remember that she didn't want to go to her crying daughter. I fucking hate Stella and I hope there's an episode that puts her on full display. I doubt the Hell-born would listen to any music that isn't produced in Hell simply because I don't think radiowaves can cross dimensions and because being born in Hell, things on Earth don't appeal to them. If you're looking for an honest answer to that. I love that Stolas cannot explain to Octavia what's going on when they're on the ride. I love that he literally has no words. Because sometimes words only sound like excuses, especially when you're trying to make someone feel better. The only thing he could say without hesitation is that he would never leave her and damn does that speak volumes.

So from my understanding the Hell ranks go like this:: Ruler: Lucifer/Satan (I think they're supposed to be one and the same but I've heard some people say they're different people but they are at the top) 2. Lillith (Lucifer's wife) / Charlotte (Lucifer's daughter) 3. 7 Sins (Ruler's of each ring of Hell, Pride, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Sloth, and Lust) 4. Princes of Hell (Stolas is here. He's a prince but not a ruler) 5. Overlords (Alister/Valentino/Vox/Velvet - characters from the sister show Hazbin Hotel - set in the same universe with different characters and story - These are humans who have made their way to the top of the food chain, whether by powers or murder or manipulation or all the above) 6. the Damned (humans souls sent to hell - they live only on the top ring (Pride) and cannot cross into other Rings) 7. Hellhounds (Loona) and imps (Blitz, Moxxie, and Millie) (they are seen as the lowest of the low, despite being born in Hell)

It seems that the hell in Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss is widely based on "Binsfeld's classification of demons". That's where the 7 sins and their rulers come from. If that's true then Lucifer is not only the ruler of hell but also the ruler of the Ring of Pride, and Satan is the ruler of the Ring of Wrath (so they are two different entities).

This is actually my favorite episode of the show and my favorite one to see peoples reaction to. So far everyone I've seen react to this has always had the same kinda message of listening to your kids is important. And to be honest this episode hits extra hard for me due to the fact that my biological father has been absent from my life since I was 8 months old. And even my adoptive father is very distant from me. It's mostly due to the fact that we have such differing interests and are such different people. So when I see scenes like this in shows, especially animated shows it kinda shows me something I wish I had. I was always a fan of Stolas from the start, since the pilot I liked him and this episode cemented into my mind why I like him so much. In his song in the begining he states "I used to think love would be fun" which very much hints at the fact that he got married to his wife due to status. He has lived most of the time in that marrige having to pretend he is someone he isnt. And when he finally gets to "Be himself" with Blitz its kinda shown as the fact that he doesn't know when to stop he doesnt have an "off" switch. But just because he becomes overly crude in such situations doesn't mean that he is a bad person just because of it. And this episode just showed the fact that he isn't just some sex crazed demon. He is someone that would happily do anything for his daughter or the ones that he loves and wants to protect. And that is such a very strong character in my mind. He is flawed yet very "human"

Helluva a Boss, along with Hazbin Hotel, both take place within an interesting setting...particularly for such a comedic emphasis. This actually leads to some narrative issues, as details relating to the world have been spread out across multiple episodes, comics, and developer chats/podcasts. In the case of Stolas and Stella, there are direct parallels between the Western Aristocracy, and the Goetic demons. It hasn't been made canon yet, but it's heavily implied that their marriage was an arranged one, and as in the real world, love isn't something that tends to influence the political rubric. When it happens, it's a bonus...and either it never happened with Stolas, or things have been degrading for quite a while. As previous comments have indicated, this episode didn't paint Stella in a very positive light, but how much this was due to the situation, particularly as this episode probably takes place just after the pilot, with Blitz dropping in on Stella and her friends/colleagues, and straight up saying, "Sorry I f#$*ed your husband." In addition to this, Stella's reaction to Stolas' infidelity appeared to be more based on the fact that he cheated on her with an imp, one of the lowest demon types in Hell (along with hellhounds). We also see in Occtavia's room, the drawings on her walls only ever show her and Stolas. Stella only seems to appear in the formal paintings. As for the opening where Stella foists the task of looking in on Octavia, sleep is a precious, precious commodity for many parents, so I'm not willing to judge that as evidence of her not being as close to her daughter.

@@TeacherandCoach2020 One additional point I remembered about this episode in relation to Stolas as a character happens when he tries to explain the situation to Octavia. His broken explanations seem to occur at the point where they would probably be critical towards Stella. Probably the two that hit the hardest because the viewer can pretty easily fill in the blanks: "I haven't been ha..." He hasn't been happy for a long time. "We weren't in..." We weren't in love. The backstory is still nebulous, but this was the episode that actually changed my opinions about the series as a whole. I was expecting nothing more than the same violence, and vulgarity, but instead, a character who's only purpose prior to this was to act as both a deus ex machina because of the grimoire, and as a running sex joke, suddenly became far more interesting and complex. Without any spoilers, I've also been surprised that these characters have continued to evolve and develop...probably what makes this series more interesting that the usual sitcom fare, where the reset button gets hit after every episode.

One thing to add about mortality in Helluva Boss/ Hazbin Hotel. Demons born in Hell are born, live, reproduce, and die like any creature does on Earth. Like Imps, Succubae, and other creatures born in hell like demon hogs. The people in Hell who can't die are Earth born sinners. They either heal from painful/mortal wounds, or regrow their body elsewhere if there's nothing to heal with. The only way to kill a sinner, or a demon of royal blood is with holy weapons. If a sinner dies by a holy weapon their soul becomes bound to the infrastructure of hell itself. You might notice random objects haves eyes. each eye, or pair of eyes is a soul killed by a holy weapon

This is one of those shows that it's really easy to underestimate... Yet I've never ever regretted watching one and usually walked away thinking about the more serious topics they touch on as opposed to the humor itself. I'm kind of worried about the day when an episode is actually not better than the previous, because the ante can't be upped forever... Yet so far, it's only gotten better by an almost exponential factor. Maybe it's just because my expectations were so low at the start (I was personally rooting for Hazbin Hotel to be the primary project), but I'm consistently blown away by the great work Vivzie and her team does. This is excessively high quality stuff for a free webtoon (smooth hand-drawn animation, recognizable voice actors, etc.). Long story short, Vivzie is spoiling the internet, and it's great to see you two reacting to such a unique series. 💜 If this is where your fans are pointing you, keep listening because they're onto something. I suspect we'll see quite a bit of Vivzie's work in future, and on bigger projects than just this.

Stolas is a prince of hell and one the 72 demons of the Ars Goetia but he’s not one of the 7 demons representing the 7 sins. In the show those demons rule the seven rings (levels of hell) in accordance to the sin they represent are: Lucifer - pride Mammon - greed Beelzebub - gluttony Satan - wrath Leviathan - envy Asmodeus - lust Belphegor - sloth ( the rings aren’t ordered line that its just the order i remember the demons). Extra note mortal souls unlike hell born demons can only inhabit the first ring the pride ring we’re IMP’s office is.

But many think he resides on the Lust ring, given how lusty Stolas is and how the sky is a different color than deep red of the Pride Ring (both Hazbin Hotel & I.M.P are based there) or the green of Greed Ring (Loo Loo Land). Wrath Ring has been shown but if you've not seen ep 6 I won't spoil it

Stolas is a good father. The white on Blitzo (the o is silent) are scars we dont know what happend but he had to have been injured pretty bad for those scars. The robot clown is robo Fizzarolli he is based on another character.

The Goetia family’s dynamic is really unstable, as I’m sure you both caught onto. As Stolas sang in “You Will Be Okay,” he ‘use to think love would be fun,’ and ‘consummation’s gone so soon.’ These are both hints at his failing marriage with Stella, his wife. Many fans speculate that Stella merely married Stolas to earn status and renown, and perhaps the latter found Stella enjoyable at one point. Back to the song, the “one story” that Stolas said hasn’t been told yet, is that of his daughter’s, Octavia’s. She’s the reason he stays in his loveless marriage with Stella and that shows true, years later in her teen years, where Stella and Stolas are at each other almost every morning arguing. By present day, Stolas has obviously had an affair with Blitzo. You may recall when Blitzo left after the initial affair, he fell onto a table where Stella was having tea with other nobles. Obviously not a good look 😬. Interestingly enough, Stella’s fury is less about Stolas cheating - again, they’re marriage has basically been over, she could care less about him - but it’s more so the fact he cheated on her with an imp. Imps are nearly the lowest social class in Vivziepop’s story, so it’s the equivalent of Stolas cheating on his royal wife with a pauper or slave. By extension, this affair has probably tainted Stella’s name, and that proves to be more important to her than Octavia’s happiness, with her screaming waking up her daughter. Octavia couldn’t be more miserable with her folks’ failing marriage, and her fear of her father leaving for Blitzo is genuine. Stolas is genuinely happier with Blitzo. Chances are because of his status he didn’t have much time to really figure himself out as to whether he liked women exclusively or at all, and could’ve married Stella just to keep up appearances of his sexuality. It’s a common strife for not just LGBT+ people, but many people that many have to marry someone they may not find attractive just to make their families happy. Stolas is trying to find himself while stuck in his marriage, and unfortunately whatever he does will lead to either Octavia, or Stella being hurt in the end. He’s a tragic character, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he dies at some point, as part of his song for Octavia stated, “when creation goes to die, you can find me in the sky.” Whether he’s contemplated leaving Stella for Blitzo or knows he could meet his end soon, he wants her to be comfortable and happy regardless. But singing something like that to lull his young daughter to sleep, and knowing what we know now…it’s SUCH a big red flag for his death. Hopefully, we’re proven wrong 🥲

I’m just curious if you enjoyed this episode far more than the previous ones. Like I stated before, episodes 2, 3, and 6 are my favorites thus far, and I think you’ll really enjoy the character development you see in those particular episodes. This episode actually featured the guy that played Beetlejuice in the hit Broadway musical “Beetlejuice” as the robotic clown, and they even got Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) to voice a character in a later episode. Side Note- One thing that I absolutely love about this show is how they always manage to put in an original song into the episode without it seeming forced or overly cringy; as there’s always a reason for the song to be included in the episode, whether it be a tv commercial, spring break anthem, a sassy car sing along, a broadway musical, or simply a lullaby you sing to your distraught daughter to put her back to sleep. I just love how it usually matches the theme of that particular episode.

Every one in this circle the episode takes place in is a Demon it is the Greed circle in it there's Loo Loo Land and the park that Loo Loo Land is a rip off of Lucifer's Lu Lu World hence everything being over priced and the voice actress who voiced Stolas's Wife also works with Brandon Rodgers who voices Blitz and as usual glad you two liked the episode and I loved watching you two react great job.

Little bit of a tip - Stella doesn't care that Stolas is cheating on her, she only cares that Stolas is cheating on her with a lower-class demon. Oh and the apple theme in Loo Loo Land also represents the Forbidden Fruit that screwed Adam and Eve out of Eden.

i always hated the way octavia asked stolas if he was gonna run off with blitzo, it always felt like a very awkwardly placed line, like they could not figure out what else to make her say at that particular moment.
