I feel for Claudia so much in this eps. She was made none consensually, stuck in a child body forever to be a bandage for a toxic relationship. Louis loves her so much, but never to the degree he loves Lestat. In the end the trial wasnt about her, not even her making was about her, it was always about Louis and Lestat. They will always choose each other. Their love is a hurricane and Claudia, sadly, was collateral damage. The only one who has ever loved her to the fullest was Madeline. In the end where it mattered the most, Madeline chose her even if it meant death. I think that's why she could hold her head up in the end, she got the one thing she has been searching for since Charlie died. Claudia you will always be famous.

I've watched this episode so many times, but everytime I'm left at a loss for words at Claudia's death. I 100% understand why she felt like she 2nd place in all her relationships and I'm glad at least that in the end, she had Madeleine, someone who finally put her 1st. She deserved so much better. Most of the trial was a set up to paint Louis and Claudia in a worse light, but it did give us some more context, and the major reveals were that Lestat DID in fact warn Louis about the Great Laws and that Louis was more aggressive in the fight from 1x05 than originally portrayed. Thankfully, Louis finally took accountability for the role he played in turning Claudia (even though Lestat is a 100 something year old vampire who could have just not done it). But when it comes to fight I do feel like there's a dangerous and sensitive path that can be taken in regards to it. Some people feel it made Louis seem like a liar or like he played up his victim status in the event. But in the end, he only fought Lestat so hard and said the things he said because Lestat attacked Claudia. Doesn't change the fact that Lestat had the advantage strength and skill wise and as he admitted, broke Louis, because he didn't love him the way he wanted him to. This scene allowed us to see that Lestat has had YEARS of thinking to do about this and whereas before when Louis took him, he didn't seem to learn from his mistakes, now I think it's clear he feels genuine remorse for it all. This season was definitely better than the first imo and that's saying something because the 1st season was incredible. As a complete package these are 2 seasons of some of the best television I've ever seen. I'm so glad it was renewed for a season 3. I can't wait for you to get to the finale!

Even though Lestat is present at the trial, he is vulnerable and is still recovering from his wounds that night during Mardi Gras in 1940. He was forced to return to Paris by the coven. He was not a willing participant.

I need you to show me where Lestat was dragged across continents to participate in this trial. I need some physical evidence that Lestat did not choose to participate on his own freewill, and that he was forced by Santiago, Estelle, and whomever to be in Paris for rehearsal, the day of the trial, and the days after. Otherwise, I do not understand where this whole "He was forced to return to Paris" thing comes from 😂!?

@@PlayaP69 I honestly think that comes from the books, I haven't read them, but I have a friend who has, and she told me everything OP said in their comment, so maybe that's why they said it? It wasn't shown on the show because it wasn't told from Lestat's POV and I don't know if they ever will (maybe they change it?), but I think OP has a reason to say that (as, I assume, they've read the books and that's where that knowledge comes from). I mean, not to defend anyone or anything, just explaining that that's probably why they're saying this.

​​@@PlayaP69 It's what happened in the books. This episode only has a couple of things that resemble the book version of what actually happened. Lestat was at Armand's mercy in the book Also, this version of events is being told from Louis's POV with help from Armand. .

@@PlayaP69 Lestat came to Armand to get help with his healing. Armand thrown him into the cellars beneath the theater, starved and tortured him with dead blood before the trial. Armand knew that starvation and drinking dead blood would make Lestat unable to comprehend what was happening so he starved him on purpose and made him testify against Claudia. After the trial Armand took Lestat to the tower, where Magnus turned him, gave him Claudia's yellow dress and thew him of Magnus' tower. In the book Lestat was thinking about both Louis and Claudia, while he was locked up before the trial. "I dreamed of getting away from here, getting back to Louisiana, letting time do its inevitable work. I dreamed of the earth again, its cool depths which I'd known so briefly in Cairo. I dreamed of Louis and Claudia and that we were together. Claudia had grown miraculously into a beautiful woman, and she said, laughing, "You see this is what I came to Europe to discover, how to do this!"

It drives me crazy that people can't tell that Lestat is speaking from a script when he's talking about meeting louis in new orleans.

Claudia is just tired of being dragged into Louis and Lestat's business (because it does hurt her), that's why she said she is only "a roof in the stormy romance of you two". She loves Louis there is no doubt about that (and even here she protects him until the end), but she wants to live her life too. Regarding the domestic abuse, what we see in this episode is a missing scene that we couldn't see in season 1 because Claudia wasn't in the coffins room with the both of them. Lestat did choke Claudia which is why Louis defended her by jumping him. Lestat is trying to restrain himself but minutes earlier he was beating Louis' head like a punching bag downstairs. So here, Louis is fighting back and like Louis said "you started it, you finish it".

I really appreciate that despite adding the additional contexts, the show runners werent cowards and still fully accepted that what lestat did was abusive and cruel. I think trying to flip the switch into "lestat did nothing wrong this is all louis' fault" would have been a very cowardly move

Lestat DID NOT REFUSE TO TURN CLAUDIA BECAUSE HE WAS JEALOUS. Louis was pressuring Lestat to turn someone - A CHILD - without consent. Lestat was turned without his consent. He didn't want to do that to someone.

i feel like louis' memory issues might have started with that fall from the sky. idk if it's ever backed up by the show, and i know some of it is unreliable narrator type stuff, as well as armand using his powers on him. but the emotional trauma of falling is invoked over and over again throughout the series (paul, lestat dropping louis, claudia in her play) so i can see that extending to physical trauma too

Both Armand and Lestat wanted Claudia dead because she took Louis' attention. At the end of season 1, Antoinette was trying to force Claudia to drink the poisonous blood as Lestat said, "Antioinette will be a much more agreeable to our life together.," basically saying the chick i've been cheating on you with for years is going to replace the "sister" you love because I want all focus on me and have no regard for how you feel. Armand created the play with Claudia playing a little girl, because he was trying to drive her to the point of ending herself, not realizing what Lestat came to realize; Claudia was stronger than anyone realized. And the mistake both Lestat and Armand made was not allowing Claudia to just leave like she wanted to. Had Lestat not made Claudia get off the train and come back, the other events in New Orleans wouldn't have happened. And had Armand not betrayed Claudia and Madeline, they would've been off on their own adventure and Louis would've been actually happy with Armand.

But Louis planed to kill himself a few days, after Claudia would had left. And Lestat new, he would to this after letting her go. So he could not agree with that. And he must had been aware that Louis would never accept Antoinette killing Claudia and take her place. No way that he could have thought, this would work. The only way for Lestat had been to search a compagnion for Claudia and let her live her own life near to Louis and him and not to tricker Louis in holding on to Antoinette.

Lestat loved Claudia in his own way. You forget we mostly get louis pov but even last season from claudias pov we even get some tender moments between them two before she gets pissed about never aging. You could even see how traumatized he was being helpless and forced to watch her die. Lestat was right to make her get off that train, she was far from ready to be on her own. She was never going to be able to be on her own since shes in a childs body. In both seasons we see her make terrible decisions that ultimately get her killed. She wasnt that clever, just more clever than lestat. She always needed a companion. Too bad she didnt have more time with Madeleine. Lestat knew making Claudia wasnt gonna end well and he clearly cared for her despite everything bc again his reaction to her death. He probably didnt realize until it was too late.

Claudia would’ve died sooner rather than if Lestat didn’t pull her off the train. That train was headed to Europe. Claudia was simply not equipped to handle any vampires other than Louis & Lestat.

The whole "trial" was bullshit and unfair, but to be fair, Madeline had nothing to do with the crimes Louis and Claudia were on trial for breaking. She was just Claudias unaware fledgling. They even said so towards the end. That's why they gave her the option to join the coven. In their eyes, she was just a bye stander. Why beat and humiliate her? She hadn't broken any laws.

I need people to understand this lestat was never a part of the trial in the book so when people are making up scenarios about the trial and saying that it's because of what happened in the book they are lying, these are all their fantasies so people who have not read books please stop listening to people telling you that this is all in the trial, because Louie wasn't even part of the trial either and Armand was the one who saved Louie in the book. And I know people are going to gravitate to certain information what they get because it fix into their own narrative.
