@@justwatchingandcommenting I've seen plenty of SNSD reactions, 99% 'western', and Hyoyeon is often noticed first. She was the 'visual favorite' of SNSD members according to Italian Vogue. When I first saw her, I thought she looked a hell of a lot like Norma-Jean---i.e. the young Marilyn Monroe. Now she's been going solo, her voice can be heard, and its quality and variety is evident. She often has a 'rasp' to it, that is distinctive and sexy AF, full of attitude. I think she's being appreciated more, now.

The first SNSD member who got my attention was Tiffany, not from any MVs but from Sister's Slam Dunk ( the first Korean reality/variety show i ever watched)---I thought she was a pretty, but 'ditzy' celebrity-of-the month, with just a couple of hit songs to her credit, included mostly for her simple charm! By the 4th episode I realized there was more to her than that...and with minimal googling, that's how I found out about SNSD. But from that, I went straight to 'Girls Go To School' ( because I like to start from the beginning of a subject of interest) and learned about the members individually during their debut preparations. I have no "bias"---they are all, talented, hard-working, very funny and good people.

I think "Lion Heart" was recommend a lot because it's one of their most recent songs and it came out during a time where Kpop was finally hitting the international market so the international fans know about it, not to mention it was the song that got them their 100th Korean Music show win. Plus it's overall a great song. Oh!GG is basically the 5 members who are currently still signed to Sm Entertainment. That's been their most recent comeback. I can't wait for you to react to F(X)! That was the first Kpop group I really got in to. Yes, Krystal is Jessica's sister.

The bright vocal is what they forced her to do. Did you watch her appearance on ON & OFF? She revealed that she wants to sing but was told by one of their producer or coach that her natural voice is boring and therefore she was forced to use the aegyo voice. She classified herself as the MSG to her group someone who had to be tailored to match them. This was something I was saying for a longtime regarding Kpop forcing talented people to downplay themselves to balance out their group. It was so sad to hear her saying this and I thank God for BoA who encouraged her. BoA told her what us Sunshiners have been saying for the longest that her natural voice is beautiful and the best version of herself.

@@segazora I think they used her voice more on the group's b-sides more than anything else. She does backing for the group that reactors, commenter and bloggers don't realize. I've seen many line distribution videos where Sunny lines were given to the other vocalists. I always try to comment & correct this. It's sad that most of the public can't recognize her natural voice. It's so good. I've also read comments at the public surprise when they realize that it wasn't Taeyeaon or Jessica doing the power high notes nor was it Tiffany or Seohyun doing the low notes but Sunny. It's shocking to them because they only know of her high pitch cutesy aegyo voice. Sunny's voice is saccharinine and it brings me nothing but joy. It's very comforting like a warm blanket on a snowy night. I love her suit to style technique. It's amazing what she can do with that voice of hers; anything you want she delivers. I especially love her in Forever in her first solo. This solo was then sang but two members the second time around.

By the way"Oh! GG" technically is a sub unit but it just means the remaining members that are in SM. SM said that they would allow the other 3 girls to still be part of SNSD which is why Lil Touch wasnt just called a "SNSD song".

It's not wrong to call Lion Heart "weird', because it is. But among the many titles bestowed on LH is one of those performances that fit SNSD's "Queens of Concepts" title. It is notably different from anything their 'rivals' did or have-done, and it was also a really bold choice for a comeback after a 28-month performance hiatus. It has the gorgeous harmonies for which SNSD are rightly famous, it's charming AF, the members look gorgeous and it is fun and silly---another classic characteristic of SNSD. What you describe as 'retro' is correct, but it's a loose term used, understandably, by those of your age, as a reference apparently to anything and everything more than 20 or 25 years old. The MV specifically references American fashion, dance and popular entertainment styles of several 20th century decades: The silver dresses and columned, palladian set is 1920's, Busby Berkeley (a famed Hollywood musical choreographer) style. The other scenes, dance moves and outfits reference the 1940s, 50s and 60s. The 'Final Act' a 1920's movie reference---black and white with actions appearing jerky because cameras were hand-cranked, with jerky results and the best anyone could do was about 18 frames per second ( 24 fps is the minimum required to record smooth realistic motion). The Lion on the TV at the beginning is a reference to MGM's signature logo. MGM was famous for its movie-musicals in the 1940s and 1950s. Why the hell these artistic and styling decisions were made, I have no idea---maybe some recreational drugs were involved? .But interestingly 20th century movie and musical entertainment references happen to crop up in quite a few SNSD MVs and performances (In their first .concert, Seohyun performed a number from The Sound of Music, SNSD performed "Singing In The Rain" and that tune also features in the prelude or "intro" to 'Paparazzi'. As individuals and as a group, SNSD have a broad and extensive knowledge and appreciation of the performing arts: Among Tiffany's many nicknames, is "Jukebox" because she seems to know a huge variety and number of 'pop' songs and artists, going back further than her years. Sunny is well-versed in 'Trot' ( roughly the Korean equivalent of American 'Country' music), Seohyun is a classically-trained pianist and has a passion for musicals (she's performed as Scarlett in the "Gone with the Wind" musical). They all love movies and of course Yuri, Yoona and Sooyoung are actresses. I imagine all these characteristics play a part in the choices made about song selections, stage performances and music video concepts. All this 'stuff'---for want of a better word---seems to make SNSD appealing to such a wide variety of tastes and people, and perhaps goes some way to explaining why the title of "Korea's #1 Girl Group" apparently wasn't quite 'good-enough' to describe their wide appeal and versatility; hence, I guess the coining of their "National Girl Group" and "Nation's Pride" titles.

Love for you to give their song Catch Me If You Can a listen. It’s my go to cardio song from them. I guess it was officially their first without Jessica. Fun fact, the video was shot in Japanese with Jessica but then everything happened...then later on the reshot it frame for frame without Jessica in both Japanese and Korean (that’s the version I listen to). The real gag is that the Jessica video version leaked online and it’s also on KZbin. I love the song so much, I even have someone who spliced in Jessica’s parts in English from the Japanese version into the Korean version and that’s what’s on my gym playlist.
