So, I don't think the ability itself makes you more violent, it's more that it's incredibly invasive and Katara feels it's morally wrong. HOWEVER, Katara uses blood bending twice, once to subdue the woman who taught it to her, as I'm sure you know lol. The second time was when Katara went out to find the man who killed her mother, with the intention of getting vengeance. She compromised on her own morals due to her own righteous anger. While she ultimately made the right decision in the end, it's almost scary how quick she was to abandon her own moral beliefs when it suited her. In a way, how is she any better than Hama? Of course, the difference lies in the fact she didn't go through with it, but from a personal reflection perspective, how close she got is likely very terrifying. I wouldn't be surprised if she blames the knowledge of this ability, similar to the concept of a temptress luring you onto the path of evil.

Bloodbending does not inherently invoke violence. There have only been three bloodbenders in the known scope of the story, as far as I'm aware. Hama was the first to be introduced, and she discovered bloodbending after years in isolation as a prisoner of war, where her only access to water was that which was produced by her own body, as well as whatever small animals made it into her cell. By the time she was able to take control of a guard, she was already mad from her circumstances, and she continued to bloodbend as a form of vengeance. Katara was the second, and after learning it from Hama, the only time she used it was in a fit of anger while tracking down her mother's killer. It didn't affect her personality at all, otherwise. The third bender was an assassin, I think, who used it against Aang in the period between series - that being said, I'm not as well versed on Korra's story as I am on Aang's. Bloodbending is just like any other bending; it's a tool and nothing more. It's not like Harry Potter's Unforgivable Curses, which require the deep seated emotion and desire to inflict the effects on the target for it to be successful, it's simply the act of bending the water in the target's blood, much like metalbending is the act of using the spots of earth sealed in metal to manipulate it. Any additional emotional effects come from the user themself. Hama was prideful and vengeful, whereas Katara went from desperate and remorseful to rage-filled.

Katara didn't need the full moon to blood bend.

She did in ATLA at the very least. The only times we ever see her blood bend are on the full moon. Not to mention her final fight with azula, which would have been a LOT easier had she jumped to blood bending, but she didn''t. She had to use more creative means for incapacitating her.
