Years and years ago, I saw an animation of an entirely autonomous machine that played music using marbles and other ridiculous things like that to play. I thought "Oh, that'd never work though. The marbles could never be recollected, the whole thing would just be a mess, I didn't really think it through enough though. I was obsessed with that video for a while. Then there was another. A strings instrument played by mechanical hands... Again, just an animation. Then I saw more and more and others and one day, I found the original Marble Machine. A singular device that could even conceivably be mass produced, if one was crazy enough to try, which could produce music with the help of a single man rotating a gear wheel and flipping switches. All it would take to automate this completely, create that insane idea of years and years before, was a motor and some cool switches. You made what seemed completely insane into something real. Something beautiful. Did it sometimes spill marbles? Sure. But who said it needed to be perfect? It was there. It was real. And that's the entire point. Creativity knows no limits. What seems impossible just hasn't been figured out yet.

11 minutes video with a smile on my face. So many creative people supporting Wintergatan's project in so many different ways of sound creation. Wintergatan's feedback, his smile, his body movements in accordance with the chosen contributions was very emphatic. Thank you to all who were involved.

I just found your channel Sir.... This is my 4th video of yours... And i am right there with you...feeling those vibes of respect from everyone and smiling right along with you. You have done something GREAT. And those kinds of things are timeless. 5 years later and you are still bringing good things to the world and good people together. Chapeau Sir.

So true! One of my greatest inspiration is yann tiersen, the chords in the marble machine song is inspired by his kind of harmony. Then one day i heard a song from Eric Satie and realised how much inspiration Yann Tiersen has drawn from Satie! We do not make up anything really new actually, but we can add to the existing and eventually something new will evolve!!!

I have severe clinical depression, I've been in remission for a while, but recently bad news in the family made it flare again.......I stumbled on your marble machine video and it made me smile for the first in a while. I now wander around humming the tune and watch the video whenever I'm feeling very down. I hope you realise how many people you're inspiring - not just to do covers of your music, but with your miusic and machines you're making us feel better about ourselves and our lives......I wish you nothing but the best, you deserve it. I was absolutely amazed by what I considered to be mostly engineering brilliance regarding the original marble machine and associated song, mostly I was humbled by the talent that I saw in its design and function. I just saw this remix of tribute covers and it brought tear to my eyes. Well done by all, and so any tributes to the talent I saw in the original video, taken by other musicians and covered as a tribute to the genius that I saw. The editing of this was amazing, and simply well done.... BRAAAVO, genius Maestro, and brilliant end of the first year anniversary, well done Martin Molin!
