Travis Miller (Lil Ugly Mane) is in my opinion one of the greatest musicians of our time. Every album is a new sonic re-invention even from the variety of names he releases music under. My personal favourite project of his is Volcanic Bird Enemy and The Voiced Concern. Such a weird and other worldly album, nothing rlly sounds like it. would love to see you cover that one next! Yo Bobby I'm not sure who put it in your head that this was supposed to be a parody but I don't agree with that at all. A parody implies that it's making fun of its source material when that's not what's happening here. This is 100% an homage. Travis is a dude that has a genuine appreciation for dirty south hip hop especially the stuff that was coming out of Memphis in the 90s and early 2000s most of which featured hyper violent lyrics with lots of references towards drugs crime and sex. Lil Ugly Mane at least on this project is Travis portraying a character (the other two LUM projects seem to lean less on the character though). Which is why the lyrics are so outlandish. I like to think that Lil Ugly Mane is Travis channeling his nihilism into this over the top gangsta character. I mean Ugly clearly doesn't give a fuck about nothing lol and maybe that's where Travis was at at that point in his life or maybe I'm just overthinking it lol 🤷🏽 Either way this is definitely a cult classic record and I appreciate that you're willing to dive into the more weird side of hip hop wish you would do it more often as I can tell you have more fun reacting to shit like this rather than some of the more run of the mill trap stuff. Hoping for more billy woods reactions! You missed We Buy Diabetic Test Strips by Armand Hammer from last year. I know you would like plus you don't want to get left behind on the billy woods train he's one of the best out right now also there's some jpegmafia production on that album if that entices you at all lol

Travis Miller was a prolific noise musician that made this album for fun/as a side project and it completely blew up and overshadowed his other work. As a result, the rest of the Lil Ugly Mane discography is wildly different than this as he basically attempted to not give people what they wanted, making some of the lowest, most genuinely dark hip hop records of all time with Oblivion Access and Bedwetter. His track Uneven Compromise is also one of the highest rated singles of all time on RYM, its a single song with multiple arcs in different styles. If you're not down to explore his entire discog then at least you should definitely check out Volcanic Bird Enemy to get a general idea of his versatility. Pls just react to volcanic bird enemy as your next video, the effect will be much better if you listen to them back to back

my interpretation is mista thug isolation is meant to be a persona that mane throws up to come with the fact that he really hates his life, it slips through, like on lugubrious, but throw dem gunz is where it kinda finally falls apart. The facade has cracked, and he’s ready to die. I would listen to volcanic enemy bird next, which is my favorite album ever made, or oblivion access.

Also slips through in the beginning right in the opening verse of Serious shit. The album gives me the vibe of a gangster that has made it and lives in a big mansion on his own and has everything but in reality really has nothing and is all on his lonesome. All he really has is regret and pain from his actions of the past, and the money/ballin has done nothing to stop his pain. Almost like Daniel Plainview in the end of There Will Be Blood. Maybe I'm reading too much into it lol but that was always my interpretation.

No one’s gonna read this but before Vampire Weekend the two main members were in a rap duo. They got interviewed about this duo once they were hugely popular as Vampire Weekend and the lead singer’s response always stuck with me: “It’s funny, but it’s not a joke” That’s how I feel about certain elements of this album. Obviously ugly doesn’t have crates of guns and drugs at the crib - he’s a musician, formerly a noise musician! - but he’s definitely been around/fucked around with both so it’s not like he’s doing a complete fabrication of events, and again it may be funny but it’s certainly not slapdash (in its lyrics or instrumentals) Thanks bob ‼️👍

You should check out his single "On Doing an Evil Deed Blues"; Mista Thug Isolation is him paying homage to hip hop, especially memphis rap and horrorcore, but ODAEDB is him being completely disillusioned with it, as well as a great portrayal of his artistic vision in general. If you want to learn a bit more about his state of mind around that time (as you said in the reaction) that'd be a good place to start. It's an interesting contrast. I'd urge you to check out his entire discography, tbh. LUM is a musical genius, and an eclectic one at that. His latest album is literally an indietronica project.

"Mista Thug Isolation is him paying homage to hip hop, especially memphis rap and horrorcore" Do you see the problem with this? You're saying he doesn't have his own sound.
@bloodhailed
@bloodhailed 6 ай бұрын
@@user-vp6cq4sv3dNo, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that LUM takes memphis rap for a spin in Mista Thug Isolation. One can make of any style what one wants; being conflated to a genre or theme does not make you instantly a copy cat of it. LUM is an insanely unique rapper, it just so happens that part of what makes him unique is his branching out and taking his sound into multiple directions. He does all of it in his own way though, so sorry if I somehow implied otherwise.

@@bloodhailed Oh ok. I just found it to be disingenuous since he started doing black metal using Seidhr as his alias. He's always made foreboding, atmospheric music in some form or fashion and has made collaborative projects involving alot of rap. Mista Thug Isolation was a happy accident that wasn't designed to blow on purpose but it certainly weren't no isolated incident. It just so happened to be his debut album is all.

I recommend you check some of his projects out Nasa Gang, BLVCKLVND Rvdix 6.66, or Dark Angels. The music is dark, atmospheric, and a very unique sound similar to what you listened to here. You have to do Volcanic Bird Enemy now!!!!! Also, Bob, if you do end up listening to more of Ugly's music, its clear that this albums character is a front for his loneliness and depression. There is a genuine artist underneath the layers of braggadocio here, which is revealed more fully on his following projects. The pinnacle moment of this is on his album Volcanic Bird Enemy, which I cannot recommend enough! Also, I would say this is parody, only it's done with such respect to the original idea, that it elevates this music to an artform in and of itself. It's sincerely absurd. Have a good one Bob, Enjoy!

i just wanna say, Ugly Mane is one of my favorite artists. he's extremely versatile and he's insanely good at every single thing he decides to make, he also has been doing this music shit for a WHILE now. and i just wanna add onto this album, Denzel Curry's verse was made when he was 17 (so i can definitely see why you were surprised on how different he sounds) and he was part of RAIDER KLVN, a collective of underground hip-hop from the early 2010s (the whole story behind this group like SpaceGhostPurrp and his beef with Denzel, A$AP Rocky is a must to dive into). their influence in rap genuinely cannot be understated, they brought back that more dark, horror style of hip-hop like you'd hear from Three Six Mafia and other memphis groups from the 90s, but it's still entirely it's own thing and they bring in also that very psychedelic, ethereal, experimental sound to it. regarding Lil Ugly Mane, you need to listen to more of his stuff, it's all so different from each other but amazing each time. Uneven Compromise, Oblivion Access, Bedwetter, Volcanic Bird Enemy and The Voiced Concern are all projects SO worth of listening to. Again, great video Bob, and laughing at some of these tracks with you made my mood so much better, because really a lot of the songs on this project can be ridiculous lyrically. I do stand on this album being really good though and disagree with your dislike for a bit of the songs, especially Lean Got Me Fucked Up. It's one of my favorites because of how dark and creepy it is but i get how this project can throw you off putting some of these songs next to each other

This guy actually used to make Black Metal songs under the name VUDMURK before he blew up as Lil Ugly Mane. He is talented at every genre.

You should listen to “BLACKLAND RADIO 66.6” by SpaceGhostPurrp next! If you don’t know who he is, he started this rap group in the early 2010s called Raider Klan and he was friends with A$AP Mob, Denzel Curry, and Ugly Mane, among others. He’s a very controversial person within the underground rap scene, and he talks ALOT of shit about other people, including other members of Raider Klan, but I still think you should listen to him. He basically began the SoundCloud rap scene and brought back that Three 6 Mafia influence into the underground, as well as popularizing loud distorted 808s. ALSO: if you are using Spotify to listen to your music, listen to the version of the album that says “Remastered” because that version includes all of the original songs.

MTI still sticks with me as one of my favorite albums of all time, especially when you compare it to his other works. This album is truly a caricature piece of the Memphis hip-hop of his era. I don't even listen to rap much often anymore but the production and flow of a lot of this album is really special. A lot of his work varies a lot. Check of the rest of his stuff out!!!!
