The restaurant that Mike and Celia are at is called Harryhausen's. This is an homage to Ray Harryhausen, the man who made the stop-motion animation monsters for films like Jason and the Argonauts (1963), Sinbad and the Seventh Voyage, and more. His work had a profound influence on Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, and other filmmakers. Also, the octopus behind the bar in the restaurant with only six legs is a reference to It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955), a film in which Harryhausen created an octopus with six arms due to budget restrictions.

Monsters Inc. is a perfect example of what animated movies are missing today. This film had class e.g. jazzy opening music, clean adult humor, adult themes, moral messages, 3D plot, etc. Not saying that ALL animated movies don't have some of these traits, it's just nowadays animated movies seem as tho they are afraid to include anything adult or anything not G-rated. And the best thing about the humor was that it grew up with us - when Boo knocks over the pile of CDs and Mike says, "AW those were alphabetized!" when we were kids, my brother and i didn't get that at all, but now that we're older we laugh our asses off XD i feel like this film takes itself seriously

what james said at 45:04 is so sweet i almost CRIED lol the things you do/say to grown people affect them, yes. but even the TINIEST little thing that you expose a child to can completely shape who they are. it can literally affect their development and stay with them for their whole life. they dont have any of the emotional defenses that we learn as we grow. so theyre extremely vulnerable. and thats so scary the scene where sully scares boo has always been one of my favorites :,) (particularly when i was 9/10 and extremely protective of my baby sister)

One detail I really love since I heard it pointed out in the DVD commentary: The canisters are much bigger after they move over to laughs, because of how strong laughter is.

This movie will be forever one of my favorites. I remember when it came out and I watched like a hundred times and even though I know the movie in it's entirely I still watch every time it is on. The characters are so well developed and it is just amazing. Fun fact, this movie was the movie that create the fur animation in pixar. Before this, if you look at toy story for example, the fur from the dog it pretty blend. So they actually created a whole new technology just to animate the texture and the fur. It is quite impressive

Monsters Inc was my heart and soul. It's very emotional, but I love the actions, funny moments and Mary Gibbs' performance as Boo will never get old. React to Space Jam 😍😍😍😢😢😢🤣🤣🤣

When I was pregnant I called my son boo because he’d kick randomly. I also had a job as a bar manager in a cocktail bar once and a kid (seriously he was like 15) handed me an ID that had the name “mike Wazowski” I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard!

One thing that helped with the monster designs, in my opinion, was choosing very saturated colors and kinda like how children would draw monsters

This movie was my whole childhood and I looked just like Boo as a child with the pigtails and everything so everyone called me Boo when I was little. So this is a special place in my heart

They got a real child to play Boo, Mary Gibbs, who was only two at the time; they just waited until she made the rights sounds they wanted, including the crying. It was difficult working with her, because she just couldn't focus due to being so young, and ran around a lot. :D

I like the reference of having the restaurant named Harryhausen in a world of monsters after the legendary monster creator Ray Harryhausen. Which brings me to say if you haven’t seen them watch his films of: The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Jason and the Argonauts, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger and Clash of the Titans (stay away from the trash remake), to name a few.
