My biggest mistake I made with my first rounds of real estate shoots, I cranked my ISO wayyy too high for some rooms that didn’t have enough light. In post, I did my hdr merges and saw the results… GRAIN, I had a mini panic attack. I realize now that I was shooting in f/19 to achieve a higher depth of field, which was my boo-boo. Had I gone down to f/11 or so, maybe f/8, I would have been fine.
@AndreiRestrepo2 жыл бұрын
I can relate!! I used to do the same, especially because when I first started, I was shooting handheld so my ISO would go way up. Yeah, I’ve had no problems shooting f/6.3-9. Thanks for watching!

I started out with a 17-35 lens. Then I went with a 15mm lens, and now I have a 14mm lens (low distortion), that keeps the lines straight. I can crop how I want the picture to look. And it’s great for small bathrooms.
@AndreiRestrepo3 жыл бұрын

@@AndreiRestrepo I use a Samyang 14mm 2.8 autofocus lens. It allows me to raise the camera (while still keeping it level), for kitchen and bathroom shots and I just crop out the extra ceiling and still have the cabinets/counter tops and floor. My other lenses never get used now.

Great video! What are your thoughts on all lights on vs all lights off when shooting higher end homes? Especially in the open concept kitchen / family room areas. I personally love letting the natural light do the talking and it's much easier to white balance but I find some of my clients still want all the lights on.
@AndreiRestrepo3 жыл бұрын
Lights off all the way !! You’re right, looks so much better! That’s a tip I mention in my Pro Real Estate video. One thing that’s nice with flash, is it looks a lot better if you have mixed lighting, if you can’t have the lights off. But I definitely try to do that if there’s a lot of natural light coming in and the white balance/colors look so much better. Thanks for watching!

@@AndreiRestrepo I recently saw a house for sale in my area (in New Zealand) where the realtor edited out a power pole from an exterior photo, and ended up leaving a gate just hanging there with no posts holding it up (the gate posts were next to the power pole and got edited out of the photo). It looked really creepy like the house had a gravity-defying gate propped up by poltergeists.

@Andrei Restrepo I was curious for the external flash. What your sweet spot usually for the power of it? 1/4? 1/16? full? I would assume depending on the size of the room right? and what do you do in the situation of vaulted ceilings?
@marcysloan68182 жыл бұрын
ps. i do more landscape photography, could I use a neutral density filter instead of a polarizing filter, or would it be too dark.
@AndreiRestrepo2 жыл бұрын
Hey Marcy! You’re right, depends on the room and the available light. A good rule of thumb is to underexpose but like -1 or so, and then add the flash. I start at 1/8 and adjust from there! Sometimes 1/2 for larger rooms, and 1/32 or less power for like bathrooms. Vaulted ceilings are tricky. If that’s the case, I’ll just bounce off the wall I’m next to, or whatever white surface I can find. No, ND will definitely darken too much, CPL removes the glare off floors so nicely, I’d definitely invest in one of those! Thanks for watching!

@AndreiRestrepo2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Definitely one of the hardest things to do for sure. What method do you shoot? One of the biggest perks with flash, is color consistency. Gets you a more accurate white balance and gives you correct colors in the scene. When I shot HDR, that was one of the biggest challenges I had. No idea how these outsourcing companies get perfect colors with hdr, crazy magic haha. Thanks for watching!

Hello! I'm going to take a photography course next year and i want to photograph interior/real estate! My question is, what camera and lens should I get? I want a camera "for life" you know, for the first years, so I thought buying the canon 6D (from 2012) or the 80D! What do you thinks it's the best? Obvsiouly in the beggining of photohraphy, i'm going to do a little of everything, as portraits, working for stores etc... so i want a good camera to start! Another question is about the lens... I'm thinking buying canon 16 mm 2.8 to start, it's a cheap lens and it's good for interior photography and portrait/trips... Can you give me your opinion please? I'm sorry bothering you with so many questions but I want an opinion from someone who is in this industry... Hugs from Portugal!! : )
@AndreiRestrepo2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ana! Sure, would love to help! I started on a Canon 6D, and I think it’s still a great camera especially because in real estate you don’t need great auto focus features and the image out of the 6D is really nice. Especially the fact that it is a full frame camera and pretty affordable nowadays. The 16 mm 2.8 would be a great lens but that is only for RF mount cameras, it’s Canon‘s newest system. If you want to use that you would have to use at least a canon RP. Which is also a great camera, just probably more expensive that a preowned 6D, but a lot more upgraded features like auto focus, smaller body, and video features as well. So I would honestly recommend looking at a Canon RP + 16mm 2.8 RF lens for your setup!

how do you price real estate photography? like what's a good price range?
@AndreiRestrepo3 жыл бұрын
One of the questions you'll constantly ask yourself! First thing I like to do for pricing out services, is see what other professionals in the area are charging. From entry level to the seasoned pros and see where I fall in that spectrum. When I started out, I was doing it for like $75-$100 or so. Average in my area is like $125 - $350 from other companies. I'm a good amount above that because I usually do a package with video.

Hey! T5 is a perfect camera to start on, it's what I had when I first started! You have take into account the crop factor from the T5, so you don't need a 16-35 since it isn't a full frame camera, you need a 10mm-12mm! I'd keep the camera you have, and invest in this much more affordable option, like these!
