You are so composed and constructive, which I really appreciate. When one of them came up I literally went “What the f” out loud because I was so shocked at how small it was - your approach is a lot kinder haha! I think people are very unfair; you’ve already shared plenty of advice about appropriate rat care, and shaming people by being overly harsh is not going to encourage them to follow your advice. People can be very stubborn when they’re told they’re doing something wrong, and I think your gentler criticisms is less likely to get people defensively refusing to take your advice. It’s a shame people don’t do much research before getting pets, and a lot of places don’t give appropriate information.

I don't know if you'll see this but I'm Sarah! The one with Bubble and Squeak. I am in the process of investing in a much larger cage, but as I am not working right now it's a little rough. I do let them out almost all of the time, and I have switched the floor of the cage to bedding and now scatter feed them. They have a dig box outside of their cage, that wouldn't fit inside. I'm trying to get a bigger cage!
@ronjawahlstrom83384 жыл бұрын
Your rats are adorable 🥰 It's nice you can let them out for the majority of their time. For now you can make their playing area really fun and set up a playpen so that the cage door can be open at night and they have the play area to play in. I'm sure you can find good ideas here and I also have a few videos on how to set it up 🥰

Hi hun can I get some recommendations for stubborn rats& litter training? I watched your video but my boy just WON'T use it & I don't know what to do. It makes their cage much more stinky. I have to spot clean everyday. I'm very stuck on what to do. 😩
@MyPerfectMischief4 жыл бұрын
witchery 97 Boys are very lazy and will basically go to the bathroom on whatever is right there outside of their sleeping area. Make sure you place their litter box next to their sleeping area. If they have to “work” to get to it, then they aren’t going to use it lol. Boys also mark a lot, and you can’t get them to ONLY mark in their boxes. I have 7 boys and I can NOT get them to only use their boxes, but I have been able to optimize the use of boxes based on where they sleep.
@moniquegroos23884 жыл бұрын
the best thing i found was suppling multiple litter trays in different locations makes them want to use it more. also use the trays as “ledges” almost that they have to use to get from one spot to another!
@Emiology4 жыл бұрын
As said above try moving their litter trays around. They’re incredibly lazy and will drop out of their favourite hammock and just pee in a stream down the cage so try to put it underneath where they sleep. Also you may want to be a little bit strict on the things they have in the cage if there’s certain things you’re having to spot clean every day like a plastic shelf or a plastic basket, take it out and replace it with something else. My boys have been banned from having plastic baskets because they would pee in them and it would get stuck in all the grooves and it stuck, after throwing them all away the smell is almost non existent now ☺️

@wigglywhiskers40044 жыл бұрын
For treats you could try walnuts, or add some water to their normal block then add peanut butter and reshape them into small treats. For taming, open the door and put your hand in and just sit still for a while(maybe with some music on). Add some peanut butter smeared into your hand and they will come out after a while. This method worked great for my boy twitch.( He's not alone, he was just the only one not tame)

Yay! That's great! Make sure you don't move too quickly with petting them and having them out alot, since (at least in my experience) things can backfire very quickly if you scare them, so just take it slow. The cage at 4:30 is a "you & me rat manor" from petco, a chain pet store in the US. I had one of those 8 or 9 years ago. It's 16.5 in (39.6 cm) wide, 22.5 in (54 cm) long, and 32 in (76.8 cm) tall The cage calculator at ratclub.org says it will house 3 rats, but the most I would personally put in there is 2 rats. The wire shelves are a pain in the ass anyways, so if they took those out they could add a lot of baskets, toys, and hammocks.

Aww, that sounds really small :( the cage I'm getting for my three boys when I get them in December can fit 7 rats according to the calculator, I wouldn't dream of putting them in a little cage like that
