The writer of the Nightwish songs is the keyboard player. He is very much a poet, especially when you consider that English is his second language. You have to remember that European Fairytales are much darker than those told to US children. One of the most famous writer of European children's stories was the Brothers Grimm. Grim stories from the Grimm Brothers.

What's next? Well, from the same concert you could listen to the murder of a romance in "Romanticide". It's a straight up rant of a betrayed lover. This song features both Floor and Marko, the bassist, singing. If you want a more enigmatic song, there's "Ghost River" where as originally written for their previous lead singer Anette, Marko supposedly portrays the Devil and Anette portrays Mother Gaia. However, Floor will play with song meanings at times and put her own twist on things. She throws in a couple of deep growls on the word "scream" which makes us wonder if she is actually Mother Gaia or an evil siren luring the children to their deaths. Is Marko really evil, or just a gruff, old troll warning the children away from the river? Once you get attuned to her voice, you'll realize what a master storyteller she really is. It's one of the fun things about Nightwish is that Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist, writes these enigmatic lyrics and then only occasionally tells us what he had in mind. Something to think about, English is not his first language, yet he writes like this. BTW, the main idea of the Imaginaerum album is about an old man on his deathbed, suffering from dementia and reliving his childhood while in a comatose state. "Storytime" is central to what's left of his memories.

@@GimmicklessReactions Early Nightwish was deeply embedded in fantasy literature and personal experience, while recent Nightwish focuses more on science, social issues and the human experience. In the middle we get this interesting transition where the album can have a bit of everything. Living one's life to the fullest is a reoccurring theme in their songs. As a couple of examples, "My Walden" references "Walden" written in 1854 by transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau. "7 Days to the Wolves" is one of those living life to the fullest songs that references "Wolves of the Calla" by Stephen King. "Poet and the Pendulum" is a deep dive into personal anguish by channeling Edgar Allen Poe and the "Pit and the Pendulum". There are Shakespearean references dotted here and there in the lyrics, plus a direct quote in "Shoemaker". Scholars could write a thesis on these lyrics.

I'm not sure if anyone else has already told you this, but here goes nothing - because if you didn't know it already, I think it will make you even more amazed about the crowd's enthusiasm. The thing is ... the great majority of the people gathered here had no idea what they were going to get before they showed up. Nightwish fans had already seen the band's original singer, Tarja Turunen, get fired - who was VERY popular - and be replaced by Anette Olzon - who was no way near as popular, but fans were begrudgingly coming around to her, mostly because the two albums with her on vocals were musically stunning ("Storytime" appears on one of them). Nightwish were even on the verge of finally conquering the US (they are Finnish, I'm sure someone mentioned that) and on their first major US tour in the fall of 2012 - when Olzon dropped out. Mid-tour! Determined to keep going, band leader Tuomas Holopainen reached out to a singer he had last seen eight years prior, in a since defunct Dutch band called After Forever. The singer's name was Floor Jansen. Would she be interested in getting on the first plane to the US and learn Nightwish's whole setlist in 48 hours? Jansen accepted the challenge. She saved the tour, and despite being completely unknown to the fans she was received quite positively. But besides the occasional KZbin clip, and some fleeting knowledge of her previous band, most fans really didn't know that much about Jansen, or what they were about to experience, on their arrival at Wacken Open Air Festival, the heart of the German and European heavy metal scene, in 2013. In fact, at this point Jansen was still officially a substitute singer and it was not known if she would get, or accept, the promotion to official band member. You see where this is going? What you see in these clips, are 82 500 spectators with uncertain expectations, being instantly and completely overwhelmed by the new voice of Nightwish and becoming die-hard Floor Jansen devotees forever. In short: youre witnessing a star being born. This is one of the most triumphant moments in heavy metal concert history. And that triumph is all Floor Jansen's.

Perfect reaction and interpretation by you 👍 Also notice how the music and Floor's strathospheric voice techniques enhances the message in the story And that injection of dopamin - the official word is a 'Floorgasm' (not kidding) Next should be 'Sleeping Sun' from Tampere as you accidentally started - amazing story from something that happened in Europe in 1999 - and in the US recently....

It is hard to find reactors that are interested in paying such close attention to and dissecting these great lyrics the way you do. There are some of course, but kind of rare in the big picture. Tuomas the keyboardist is the founder/songwriter/maestro, and he is very poetic. Nightwish songs begin in his head, and he is a musical genius. He gives credit to the bandmembers that add lyrics, riffs, and changes, but he is the man. All orchestration is made at his direction as well. The guy is amazing, he sees and hears the songs like a movie in his head, and tries to get the sounds and lyrics as right as he can, before he shares it with the band, then they as a group, put the finishing touches on it. Floor agreed with me, he is a musical genius. I have liked and subbed for your Nightwish journey.

Follow Gabriel's list until you get a few more songs under your belt. His suggestions are for the best versions of each song but you don't necessarily have to follow them in any particular order. Go with any title that catches your eye. Except for "The Poet and the Pendulum". There's a knowledge of the band, and the circumstances around which that song was written that is necessary in order to fully appreciate that song. The keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, is the composer and lyricist for the great majority of the music the band plays. He is often called the "Metal Mozart." His lyrics are often enigmatic and can take you on journeys across the street and across the universe.

Also the love for storytelling and the human imagination. Oops! Sneak peeking! Floor is the mother of Freya (and Lucy), literally! In Norse mythology, the mother of the Goddess Freya is the Goddess Nerthus - equivalent of Gaia! In this song - Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland (the mad hatter - Tuomas! and his top hat at the start of a gig!), Mary Poppins (the line about every chimney, every moonlit sight)..... Childhood innocence and wonder. "Imaginaerum" the Nightwish movie is worth seeing! The magic is real! see "Dark Chest of Wonders"!!?

It's a good idea, when you pull up lyrics to Nightwish to always pull them up from their actual website, so that you make sure you have the right lyrics. I've seen some wacky interpretations of Nightwish lyrics out there, even on closed captions on their actual videos. It's possibly because the largest part of their fan base speaks English as a second language. "a silent kite against the blue, blue sky" "I am the story that will read you real, Every memory that you hold dear" Tuomas (keyboard player) writes most of the music and lyrics, and arranges all the background symphonic elements. He's a genius. Romanticide next; I think?😃

This song is so great! Nightwish just makes a person happy, or consoles you when you are sad, or gives you bangers to listen to when you are mad! I was so confused at the song change, though, lol. When you do Sleeping Sun, perhaps do a double with Floor at Monsters of Rock 2016, and then maybe the old one with the first singer Tarja. Tuomas wrote such a beautiful song about a solar eclipse it does not matter who sings it, it just beautiful. Btw there is no age limit on being a poet. You can do it! 😊

We might have told you already but it might help you to know Tuomas uses several pseudonyms to refer to himself in various Nightwish songs which he writes from experiences, observation or imagination, he says he is a man with a boy's heart, a grown-up Peter Pan, and you will see that directly in places even, when he uses boy narrators sometimes in place of himself. Digging into his lyrics is almost a second bite of the cherry. He will also use poet, dreamer, writer/song writer or ocean soul - Tuomas has an affinity for the ocean, he wanted to become a marine biologist; keep all this in mind for later, it will help. So here, "A writer by a fire. . . . . ." Tuomas is speaking to you directly, he is the story-teller, the “writer by the fire” - "Took a journey into a child-man’s heart" would be Tuomas remembering the childhood stories, the Peter Pan escapades of his imagination and fascinations, but the boy has grown up from being a Peter-Pan, the crib is empty. I am: the voice of Never-Never land, the empty crib, the journey, the destination, the home, Tuomas says, he's taking you back to his childhood fascinations. Floor sings the bridge "Neverland, innocence, dreams of every man. . . . . ." in a high operatic head voice, a pitch you might expect from a very excited small boy. Now, go look at all the lyrics and the references to the childhood classic stories and it all drops into place; it's one of the songs where it is easy to dig inside Tuomas' metaphoric lyrics and unravel them. Remember the "limitless chest of tales", we'll come back to that when you get to it ! (Edit: Alice? Madness ? The Mad Hatters tea party. . . . . . . .) Good stuff, you keep at it, Nightwish will not disappoint.

Love that you are carrying on with Nightwish. General Gabriel's list is a good place to start, but please feel free to follow other suggestions or your own instincts. And one thing you will quickly learn is that a lot of Nightwish's lyrics (courtesy of Tuomas, the keyboard player) can be interpreted in more than one way. You will find that there are many overlapping themes and internal references to other songs, and he references himself often - every time he mentions the poet, the dead boy (his youth) or the ocean (he was going to be a marine biologist before music took over his life) he is referring to himself. But enough of me - just listen to the lyrics and go where they take you.....

I appreciate you watching the channel. I’m not sure how closely you’ve followed the channel but if you go to the previous videos, I took the time to record and video response to quite a bit of the commentors and if you look around my channel, I do my best to respond to most comments. I work full-time, I work nights and I’m a father and boyfriend and I live with my sister & my 90 year old father all who I all value my relationships with quite a bit. Fridays is the last day of the week for me. My work ends at 6 AM and I normally work on the channel during the week for the most part and spend time with my family on weekends cause I’m already putting 15-20 hrs into this channel with my hectic 50 video per month goal which is roughly 13 videos a week… This Friday in particular, I got off work at 5:30 AM then went to my son‘s mother‘s house and picked him up at 6 AM that I went home and gave my son his medicine then at 7 AMish I went to my sons school for a family breakfast event… Then I went out to lunch with my girlfriend after laying around and finally having a bit of time to spend with her. Then I had a digital daddy daughter date just like I do every Friday for two hours, and watched my hero academia with my 14-year-old that lives in Tennessee. Then after that, I spent some time with my father, sister, and girlfriend by watching a movie and eating dinner. I also picked up some first shift overtime for Saturday which means I had to be up by 4 AM and to work by 5:30 AM. So I had to go to sleep pretty early… My girlfriend just left to be in another city for three days because she’s a traveling nurse & that was my first day seeing her in over a week… I have lots of responsibilities outside of this channel and five people (family members) who I have personal relationships with that I also have to foster on a regular basis just like I have to foster my relationship with my subscribers here. Now here I am getting ready to go to my first shift overtime my girlfriend just left and the very first thing I did was start checking and responding to my KZbin comments. I haven’t even taken a shower or brushed my teeth yet… You come off a bit and inconsiderate and condescending. I have family & I put a lot of work in this channel and I do my best to respond to comments, although sometimes I may be spending time with family and it may take more than 24 hours for me to really get back to a video I posted and check the comments. Also, I do things a certain way. I’m known for my breakdowns I’m known for stopping and tearing apart the lyrics, that’s what a lot of people come to my channel 4. Have gotten much better at doing it in the structured way and I’ll continue to try to become more efficient at it but I cannot change my entire style because you don’t like it when dozens and dozens of other people come here specifically for that. I hope you realize it that’s pretty much what my brand is. I stop as much as possible talk about the rhymes talk about how it can be interpreted how it makes me feel and I sometimes I try to sprinkling some personal stories about my life if it all possible. That’s the style that works for me. That’s the style that has allowed me to bond with many of my subscribers. I hope you stick around around and be patient for my responses to subscribers as I’m ahead of a household with a lot of people that depend on me and a lot of relationships that I have to foster and pay attention to so I don’t neglect my family members. Peace and love. I hope you enjoy your weekend.
