For once I don't have time at the weekend and for once someone reacts to my very favourite version of this amazing song. Great xD Anyway, thank you so much for choosing this one!! It's actually the most powerful version IMHO, both because Tarja is in her most powerful style here which, like others mentioned before, fits the song perfectly, and because of the way this one is mixed - especially the super intense pyros at the beginning and the end. Super glad you enjoyed this one! ♥ Have a damn good, well, week? xD

Kinslayer will forever be my personal introduction to the world of Nightwish. Sometime in the early 2000s, like a lot of kids my age back then, I was playing counterstrike. This song was used, at a minimum, in any other frag montage back then. It just sounded so different and really sent me down the rabbit hole that is Nightwish back then. Online gaming left my life (or changed focus), but Nightwish sure as hell stayed with me.

Anonymous post 2010: This is directly from the nightwish website (parts in {} are my additions: link to site: www.nightwish.com/en/article/7 The Kinslayer On April 20th, 1999 two teenagers, Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold went to Columbine High School, in Colorado with handmade bombs and shotguns, with intention to kill as many of their schoolmates as possible. As they entered the school, they started shooting and throwing bombs everywhere, killing 9 boys {Lyrics: 9 blue ones}, 4 girls {Lyrics: 4 pink ones} and finally themselves {Lyrics:2 black ones}. This was carefully planned for over a year, and these guys were determined to kill also themselves afterwards. They had no real motive. They made a videotape in the morning just before the massacre where they said: "We are going to kill you all. You have been giving us shit for years. We want to say our sorry for our parents; there's nothing you could have done. This is something we must do. We're sorry; we didn't like life very much..." The event is something I will never understand. If something as horrible as this can happen in this world, there's no sense, no truth to cling to anymore. I find there's a great deal of symbolism hidden in this happening. The dialogue in the middle of the song quotes the actual phrases between the killers and their schoolmates during the shooting. (According to those who survived)"

Enjoy pretty much all the Nightwish stuff, but this earlier stuff and the shows will always have a special place in my heart. Besides of course the classic rock and metal stuff, the Finnish and Swedish scene had a massive impact on my musical development. The Gothenberg scene and CoB / Nightwish run through my music collection till this day. Plus the old Nightwish shows were awesome, not in the least as they had a tendency to drag other, smaller bands along with them across Europe. Heck that's how I got introduced to Sonata Artica and probably what got Wilska to go from roadie to vocalist, which probably led to my two favourite Finntroll albums. Ah good times!

Tuomas wrote this song about the infamous and tragic school shooting at Columbine High in Colorado on April 20, 1999. One teacher and 12 students were massacred by two students who committed suicide. An additional 24 people were injured but survived. It musically paints the picture of re-enacting the actual incident. It the second half the recorded voice is saying what some of the killers are reported to have said to their victims before they killed them. In the Buenos Aries 2018 show, Marko does these lyrical pieces. It is also recorded much better. Great job as usual Chase. Hope you have a "Damn Good Day"! 😊🎶🎶🎶🤘🤘🤘✌

Damn you youtube, why you not let me know about this video earlier! Anyway, I am so glad you decided to react to this super early version of Nightwish before Tarja started to save her voice live. Since pretty much no one had been doing what she is doing before them, she soon noticed that singing with a metal band on small stages with a classical technique is very hard and damaging to voice, since she can't properly hear and feel her own voice due to the loudness of the rest of the band. She had to come up with new technique that would help her sing close enough without her losing her voice by accident. While it was more stable and healthy voice, however, I personally feel, she didn't quite sound as good when she did that One thing to note however, is that video isn't 100% synced when it was cut and edited. There are a few points where you can see them playing/singing different part to where the song was at. This isn't lipsync (I don't think) but small mistake in editing

I recommend Dead Gardens. Part of album Once (last one with Tarja). One of the heaviest song of Nightwish to date instrumentation wise. And rare absence of male secondary vocals. Outro for a full minute the guitars and percussion you heard all the time doing it without vocals. Also unusual for them.

Agree with the last comment, you must react to Deep Silent Complete, Decades Tour, Buenos Aires! A up tempo track, making the band smile👍🏻😊

One of my favourite Nightwish songs. I was also very bitter that because of reasons I could not attend to that very concert and for weeks my friend who was there kept telling me how amazing it was. :D Talk about rubbing salt into wound. The male spoken part is Ike Vil, best known from band Babylon Whores and now sings in Sleep Of Monsters. He has amazing voice.

Until 2002 Nightwish was not symphonic metal band. They were most under the genre of power metal with strong predominance of the keyboards. That's amazing!

Please do "Words darker than their wings" from Alter Bridge at the Royal Albert Hall. It is one of the best live version of a song I´ve ever heard. The singer goes all the way and more. You won´t regret it.

Chase, now that you mentioned it. Do sound engineers follow for example guitar players around the stage with panning as it happens or is it too much to ask for?
@ChaseCarneson
@ChaseCarneson 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would not typically happen. They would be set and adjusted slightly but mostly left the same. That being said, it would be cool to see and who know, I'd imagine there are some people who've tried it.

@@ChaseCarneson I imagine the experience wouldn't be universally perceived correctly across the venue, but imagine you're somewhere on the side in front, next to the left or right speaker, and you hear guitar getting louder and you look up and the guitar player is running towards you. But then later in the gig the same player is absolutely killing it on the other end of the stage and you can't hear a thing. :D Mixed feelings. Somewhere near the sound check box it would be more balanced.

The voice here is just a recording. It was spoken in the album by Ike Vil from the band Babylon Whore and they just replayed it in every live performance

IMHO, Tarja shines with slower, more flowing melodies and lyrics (Sleeping Sun comes to mind, which she absolutely hits out of the park). She's not that good with fast staccato melodies and lyric lines like this one, she always comes across (for me at least) as 'rushed' as if she's always just a little bit late on the note. She can do it in the studio, because the album versions sound fine, but it falls down a bit on stage. Still, really like the song itself, personally :)

Nice reaction! End Of An Era's performance of this song is way better and mature, especially for Tarja. By the way, always go to 1st option End Of An Era when reacting to a Tarja Era song - it's their best (and the last) recorded live show with her. The Siren (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5maZZebaqiIhck) and Dark Chest Of Wonders (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHKtkniEjNaYr5Y) should definately be with her instead of Floor... I love Floor, but they're undoubtedly Tarja's songs.
