Another Michigan fan here. ... The nation's leading defense against the run was simply bullied by the Michigan offensive line. No pass plays by Michigan during the entire 2nd half. "Stop us if you can," said Michigan. Penn State couldn't. That clock-eating run game of Michigan kept the scores down but didn't leave the game in doubt.

N that's it right there. U made them want to totally embarrass psu. N doubt they would admit it. But to me it looked as that is what they did by not throwing in the 2nd half. Unfortunatelytho psu will rarely if ever be a contender while they keep franklin around. Hes a good coach but thats about it. Not great not elite. Makes dumb mistakes at times. But on a brighter note i can see him coaching osu the last 3 yrs n id bet anything his record wouldve been the same as cryin ryan. So at least hes in great company with the famous great coach of osu lmao. But back to psu......umich is total rebuild atm.....osu threw the vank vault at this team.....u have a decent chance to capitalize this yr. I just dont think franklin can do it. We have a great, D but they were on the field way too long! They were Boa Constrictors. They just kept pounding and pounding until our D was worn out. The 2nd half we knew they were running every play and they still drove down the field. The coaching was bad quit going for it on 4th down. The 2nd half I felt like we wanted to beat Michigan at their game instead of making Michigan play our game. Their offensive lines are a pain in the but. With the gift of 20/20 hindsight, your comments about PSU's offence need to be put in the context of Michigan's amazing defence. PSU's offence needed (and probably still needs) work, but Minter's defence won the National Championship, straight up. Your defence was stubborn, and your rush essentially shut down Michigan's pass game, which is why Moore went to the run so frequently, especially at the end of the game (30 straight runs). It sucks to lose, I get it (I've been a Michigan fan forever, so I know!). But I don't think you need to be quite so hard on your team. First, I'm a michigan fan. Your pass rush looked phenomenal on Michigans first 2 series because of the speed of your dline and LBs. So as Klatt said, how do u counter speed on defense, u run right at them. That's exactly what Michigan decided to do, and after taking a lead, didn't have to do anything different. Outside the 1st qtr, i wouldnt say u kept michigan contained. They did rush for nearly 5x your season average. And outside corum and edwards, never had to get their playmakers involved. On defense, michigan came in intent on stopping the run and making allar have to beat them. Not only did he not do that, the coaching/play calling never really gave him that opportunity. Other than a few moderate runs and QB draws and the final TD in garbage time after Michigan had been celebrating what they thiught was an int, their defense looked like its usual dominant self. Other than the lackluster play calling, Franklin's biggest blunders were going for 2 in the first half. I dont care what analytics say, going for 2 before the end of the game is dumb. The 4th down on your own 30 with 5 min left. And that ridiculous 2 pt play on your last td. Theres creative and there's dumb. U essentially had 3 WRs being covered by 5 defenders with 2 QB spies and nobody blocking for allar.

Hey look man, great breakdown of what went on during the game. Penn St is still a good team. I feel your frustration, and pain. We went through that with Harbaugh for the first 6 years. This PSU team reminds me a lot of what Michigan was during that time. A really great defense, but lackluster offense that is missing a couple of key pieces. Regardless of what people say about sign stealing, Michigan really got great when JJ took over. Before he was named the starter, we had mediocre or subpar QB's. PSU needs a stronger QB, and a little more depth on offense. Drew Allar is shaky, but young. So either he will develop, and grow stronger, or PSU will have to recruit harder for more QB's. Personally, I've never liked Franklin. I think he's not that great of a coach, and days like today showed it. However, PSU had a great offensive plan going into the start. Run the ball hard on 1st & 2nd downs. Have about 3-4 yards to go, and then pass, or run the QB for a 1st down. They did a great job at first, but I think after the 2pt conversion fail is where everything started to go south. Then, Franklin killed it. Just keep your guys's head up, and I think Franklin will definitely be out next year when the pac-12 merges. The Conference is about to get a hell of a lot tougher.

Michigan fan here. I am resisting my feels right now. This is where MI was in 2018-20. You ned a whole new coaching staff except maybe the D guy and head coach. Good luck to you.

"Oh, you guys have the #1 rushing defense in the country #10 Penn St? Ok, well we'll just run it on EVERY down the entire game w/ the exception of 8 1st half passes, without our coach, in your 102k capacity loud ass crib and still get the dub... #statementgame

Franklin is the most overrated coach in the NCAA. Two best teams?? Really? No QB - no WR - and pathetic coaching. Penn State is a decent team, but nothing special. Franklin needs to go. He is supposed to be a good recruiter. How? They rarely get the best players.
@a_goblue202310 ай бұрын
It’s all about matchups, the style of defense you play is very similar to what we did under Don Brown. We had very fast athletic linebackers and edge players who could get home but the problem was against Ohio State they had the talent to beat that style of game. PSU defense is fast and aggressive but undersized, Michigan knew that if they put there best run blockers on the field and told PSU they were running, PSU was just over matched, there were plays Michigan ran the ball with 0 receivers on the field!!! 7 Olineman, 2 TE and QB and RB. That tells you 100% we gonna run it and Blake Corum still took it for 45 yards.

Michigan Alumn, Great points. I have to give Franklin credit for trying to be aggressive. Although it was misguided in some key areas, including the early 2 point conversion attempts and the 4th down attempts, in his mind he was thinking even if we lose its not going to be because I was conservative. They played a flawless first quarter. I know it sucks being the 3rd best team in the conference every year, but it could be a lot worse. Ask Illinois, or northwestern about that.

UM not having an accurate qb (during the hoke and richrod stretch in particular) for what felt like forever didn't help either

Michigan fill in coach was like a deer in the headlights. You have a JJ McCarthy and you don't throw the ball once in the whole 2nd half. Just BIZARRE...lol

That’s what you got outta that? That was a freaking masterpiece.
@garyrentschler608210 ай бұрын
@@swingamiss729 So NOT utilizing a rare talent and going 100% one dimensional is your version of a 'masterpiece'? All you see is they got away with it. They allowed Penn St to hang around and get chances. Dumbest coaching I've seen in decades!! Franklin was no prize either...lol...going for 2 instead of kicking the extra pt, to make it a one score game...pure stupidity!!

All of the great quarterbacks coming out of high school why does Penn State end up with average quarterbacks? I hope Penn State don’t fire coach Franklin.

You seem like a good fan👍 UM fan here just getting a psu fans perspective. Psu has all the tools/resources to be an osu, Bama, UM, Georgia program...it's the coach man. Ya gotta move on Franklin. He's not it. I loved O'Brian and wish he wouldn't have left. Saquan and Moorhead made Franklin look better than he was imo.

This game was not even close. Over by the half, we all knew it. The fans knew it. A real letdown actually. PSU is not remotely close to Ohio or Michigan. The scores do not tell the story. It's far worse. I don't care about the scores fro Ohio or Michigan. It may as well been 50 to 7. It could have been, but why risk a thing when you can have a guaranteed win. Like Michigan did. Michigan told you what they were going to do..against your best asset (defense) and did so willingly, knowingly and there was not a single thing PSU could do about it. Nada. And destroyed the morale of PSU entire bench. Made them panic the few times they had the ball. And it showed. A guaranteed win with ground and pound. Easy peasy. Michigan would win this game 99 out of 100 if replayed.

Penn State has nothing to feel bad about, one of the best defenses in college football, just improve the play calling and recruit receivers and absolutely be a playoff team. Good luck next year Go Blue!

Agree 💯 with what you're saying. I don't put it on Drew but I do think people need to remember he's a true sophomore. He's still learning not to mention the Wr's on this team are just awful.I don't think I ever saw a Penn State team without a playmaker outside maybe Michael Robinson day's but even then we had talent. We better hit recruiting harder at the wide out spot or the transfer portal because they will waste Drew's time here. We Are !!!
