She should appreciate that the Landmine Jesse Ventura disarmed is called the "Claymore" after the Scottish sword. Billy cut himself to show the Predator that he was not afraid of pain. He waited for the Predator because he would ratehr face death than run anymore. He was challenging the alien to face him hand to hand. Kevin Peter Hall, the actor inside the Predator suit, was the black man piloting the helicopter at the last scene.

The execution of the hostage at the base camp is one of the most realistic ones ever shot for film. No warning, cold, heartless and graphic. It freaked me out when I was younger for it's portrayed. One of the greatest movies of all time IMO. It stills holds up today. The writing, Special FX and pacing as well as the big reveal are a staple in filmmaking even by todays standards. In a duel if you wound your opponent first it’s called drawing first blood. At that point you can offer mercy (it’s called giving quarter) to your opponent. When Billy cuts himself he’s denying the predator the chance for first blood. Basically Billy is telling the predator that this is to the death.

I’m certain cultures, you’re not supposed to unsheathe a blade without ‘blooding’ it. He may have known his chances of getting blood from the Predator were for shit & decided to blood it that way instead. It could also have been a method to get himself hyped up for the forthcoming battle. In ‘normal’ situations, someone cutting themselves like that would be pretty intimidating, but something tells me the Predator wasn’t intimidated by such an action..

Guerilla is originally a Spanish word meaning "fighter" or "warrior" from the root word guerra meaning "war". It's been adapted into English and now means "an insurgent soldier". YES!!! MY #1 FAVORITE ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER MOVIE!! Facts you didn't know about the movie: Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was wearing the original suit, which looked like a lizard insect hybrid. He even wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused. Kevin Peter Hall, RIP, was cast as the titular character as he was more of an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character Dutch being 7'2". Oscar Winning VFX company Stan Winston Studios designed the PREDATOR suit for the movie and they would later return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990. Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches like Spielberg and Ford on Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Schwarzenegger would later hire his own personal Chef to give the actors the food they needed, but no hot meals were allowed due for the heatwave in Mexico The producers hired a bodyguard to protect people from Sonny Landham, RIP, whom played Billy as he was prone to violent outbursts. Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie, it was a survival story for all of us " The stuntman that falls off the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap. It was 110 degrees in the shade, and due to the 2 weeks of rain, it was 42 degrees at night. The film was a box office success, making $100 million dollars ($470 million dollars today,) against an $18 million dollar budget. It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to InnerSpace. It's one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made.

Billy, cut himself for several reasons. 1) As a Native American, it would have been viewed in some cultures as a sign of a "brave warrior" due to not being afraid of pain or blood. 2) As "prey", he would have cut himself to deny the Predator the "honor" of taking his skin intact, or ruining the Predator's trophy. (See a bit later on) 3) As a "warrior", cutting himself BEFORE the fight started showed the Predator that "first blood" was no longer a "bragging right". The fight would be to the death, Billy's or Predator's. And as such, the Predator saw Billy as a far more VALUABLE prey to hunt because he was willing to turn to fight him one-on-one. Which is why after the fight, the Predator took Billy's skull as a trophy. Which was HIGHLY respected and honorable prey worthy of a hunt ... in Predator society. (Something expanded and explained in other media sources such as books and comics)

This is the 1980s, so sometimes dramatic music was used just to make boring transitional scenes more lively, especially in militaristic movies. Different eras used different methods/tricks to hold the audience's attention. Everything (especially the plot) starts and/or moves along faster these days, usually, while older movies allow the story to develop more gradually, and hold the audience's attention with the score or with additional action or side-plots.

Please react to _Predator 2_ before _Alien vs. Predator._ It was released first, and makes significant additions to Predator lore. After that, you're good to go straight into _Alien vs. Predator,_ as you've already seen the first two _Alien_ films, and the later films in each franchise don't add much to the lore.

Great reaction, Dawn, you seemed to enjoy this, now you're ready for Alien Vs Predator. To answer your questions: it's Guerrillas not Gorillas, Guerrillas are people engaged in warfare but don't belong to an army. The technology isn't part of the Predator it's an add-on like his armour and helmet. Yes, it's a competition between the Predators who are the best hunters.

"I knew he could repeat things." This is where a lot of people don't really pay attention to the various cues throughout the movie. Listen to the enunciation of Dutch's line, "What the *Hell* are you?" He stresses the word "Hell". The Predator stresses the word, "you". The Predator isn't repeating, "What the Hell are you?" to Dutch. The Predator is asking, "What are you, that a mere human could manage to not only beat me, but kill me?" The Predator is literally in disbelief that he was laid low by a pathetic human.

Dawn on point with the hiding of the heat signatures, the predator being on safari and who the last two characters standing would be! And don’t worry, Dawn - the gorillas come into play more in Predator 2 😉 Fun fact: they did use thermal imaging cameras for the Predator heat vision, and when they were filming, the jungle was so hot that they had to wet everything down with cold water in order for the actors to show up against the background! This means that the Predator was actually working with a handicap by hunting in the extreme heat. Means it was a fair fight, which was nice.

Hi Dawn. It wasn't gorillas, it was guerillas. That is what they call fighters who work in concealment and under the cover of jungle or whatever. They hit and run. The enemy in Viet Nam were guerilla fighters as were some of the Americans that fought the British in the War of Independance. They fought from behind hay bales and trees and anywhere they could find cover. Here's a bit of an odd fact for you Dawn. There were 2 former governors in this movie. Arnie of course and the guy who didn't have time to bleed. He was a former wrestler named Jesse (the body) Ventura. He, after retiring from wrestling became Governor of Minnesota.

The Predator comes from a species called the Yautja. They were genetical tampered with and accelerated into full sentience by yet a 5th alien race in the comics lore. To them hunting is a form of obtaining status and breeding rights. There are also sub species and different clans of Yautja that hunt in different environments, same or different prey and even hunt other clans members.

As a former Army "Huey" helicopter crew chief, the wind screen doesn't shatter as they portrayed as it's made of plexiglass. Also, due to the magnesium alloy make up of the fuselage, it would still be burning or reduced to melting scrap from the fire. I regret to say that I had the misfortune of recovering a Huey crash that killed 10 soldiers. The wreckage was still smoldering when we arrived two days later.

Guerrillas are like special ops teams or a small platoon of irregular combatants. The blue pulse weapon is probably some kind of plasma launching device, perhaps vaporizing a wire with high voltage within a conical magnetic field; likely would have to have a small nuclear or zero point power source. Perhaps it takes time to fully charge, so if fired in rapid succession each shot isn't as powerful as it could be.
