I was 9 when the next step came out and I started watching it from s1, ep5. Now I’m 19 years old and I’m at uni. It’s crazy how much has changed in 10 years but at the same time nothing has changed. 10 years has passed and I’m still sat here watching the next step. Here’s to the next 10 years 🎉

I'm pretty sure Pete's grandad died which would explain why he's so upset and overwhelmed. I think also in the BTS there was a clip of him dancing using his grandad's hat as a prop too, saying how the dance was a celebration of life. But so happy the new season has finally come out!

Glad to see you reacting to the first episode already!😁 I agree that this was actually a good first episode and opener to the show. I really liked the vibe to the opening dance with the new shots and the way they were focused on the camera for a few scenes. Almost like they were breaking the fourth wall in a way. The new opener song for Season 9 also sounds really good. TNS music is always full of consistent bangers. Everyone looks so good too especially in their talking heads. I like how authentic and natural everything feels so far. It did give a bit of old TNS vibes which is really nice and makes me optimistic for this season. I liked how Kenzie is still in her dance captain era, the Heath and Daisy scenes were also cute. It’s nice that they remembered Daisy and Izzy’s friendship with their band bond. I liked seeing Winnie and Lily again. The mention of Jacquie was nice and the Cleo and Jude scenes were adorable as always. I’m sad that Jude has left just as things were now coming her way but I’m happy that she got a nice and positive send off with her joining Step Inside. Her getting to dance once more with Cleo was nice too. Still hope we see them again as recurring characters. I liked that Kenzie congratulated her too with the whole team. The Kenzie and Pete scene at the end was also quite interesting too as it was quite sad and sudden. The only things I didn’t like were Winnie not being considered for an open spot for Internationals. Although it also seems like she’s not considered as a dancer anymore. The other thing I didn’t like was Grace’s reasoning for messing with TNS. Because nobody was antagonistic against her, it doesn’t hold much weight for her to be vengeful. But like you said, if we get more scenes with her and Winnie then it might make up for it. But if it’s because of her not being noticed during the party that happened with the new A troupe members last season then it just comes across as petty😂 But otherwise this was a solid opener. The lack of Nick makes me hope that this won’t become another Season 8B situation and I’m curious about Pete’s situation too but I think it’s already been spoiled by CBBC sadly lol. Looking forward to the rest of Season 9 and your reactions😁 #TNS10WHEN

I was disappointed when I saw Jude wasn’t going to be apart of A-troupe this season but I was very satisfied with her ending and the fact she went off with Cleo, loved their duet. Really nice send off to both Cleo and Jude.

haha same, but I honestly think it was just to celebrate 10 years of the next step airing on CBBC. Like season 1 episode 1 aired for the first time in the UK on April 7th 2014, so i think it's just to celebrate that milestone x

This episode was a 9/10 The only thing that I didn't like was how juvenile Grace is being, she literally has no reason to tear them compared to other characters - Ethan didn't have his own best friend on a troupe (Marcus and Marcus didn't even take it well) - Jude's own girlfriend (Cleo) didn't make it!!! She had every right to be upset - Winnie getting cut every single time And when Grace was on a troupe for literally 5 seconds and she didn't make an effort to the new a troupe!! And she left her old teammates with bad publicity (being called in experienced no names, being ranked 63 out 64 teams) She has no reason!! And another thing Nick didn't even say anything 😂😂

In my opinion, S9 has been great so far. I watched all 11 episodes today and it’s definitely better than S8. It covers some more mature things (example: one of the new characters brings up periods at one point) and it just feels more natural. A video idea is: ranking the dancers of a certain season based off of dance ability or do some what if videos!

I can’t lie I was hoping that when Kenzie was in the office at the beginning it would be that she had been like taken on by Nick to train her to own the studio/she’d been made studio choreographer/something like that where she has a job and this it just became ‘no she’s just dance captain and steals Nick’s office for herself’. I’m scared we’ll have unused Nick again..

sameee! i feel like just addressing that she's maybe had some sort of promotion within the studio in a higher position than just dance captain would have reassured me a lot more, because it feels similar to S8 where they're going to make the studio head's job role the dance captain's and it's just wrong 😭

I had genuinely forgotten about Richozzy getting together because I made it a point to skip those scenes in my subsequent rewatches because they made me irrationally angry. What really annoyed me about Jude wanting to join Step Inside was the fact that she so casually mentioned she knew all the dances from watching them, when her entire character was based on her difficulties learning choreography. That's pretty much the first thing we learned about her, and I feel like they're disregarding that fact for the sake of the plot. It would have been so interesting to see how they worked in her dyslexia to her getting a spot in Step Inside, but it's not even brought up.

I'm realllllly liking Grace as a villain so far. Brianna (yes, she is glowing) is playing her perfectly. That scene in Studio 1 with Ariana and Winnie was genuinely funny and had real S1-2 vibes. I also liked the justification for her revenge mission, ready for that to be expanded on later too. Still don't care much for the current A-Troupe but I'm already feeling better about them. I like how characters are finally interacting with people outside of their own storyline again (Heath and Ethan, Ebby and Izzy). Also Heath and Ethan's scene in the locker room felt really smooth and natural. Again, early TNS (and S6) vibes. This opener has gotten me so hyped for the season 🎉🎉

yess i was waiting for this video as soon as I finished watching the episode because i wanted to hear your thoughts! I'd say a solid 8/10 or possibly even 9/10 for the opening episode! i don't think anything got me super fuming lol, but there would be a few things I'd change. I'd say firstly, i totally agree with the new look in terms of filming where I think it would have been cool to have incorporated Nick filming the dance and moving around, because now it brings all sorts of conversations again, of whether or not they know there's a camera or not and the whole 'mockumentary reality style' aspect of the show. My initial thoughts on Jude's exit was that it felt a tiny bit rushed, and I think this was mainly because Jude was so excited to be moved up from an alternate spot to a fully fledged member of a troupe and then also being a co choreographer for internationals, but then all of a sudden a spot opens up on step inside and she changed her mind so quickly 😭 but after her scenes with Cleo and the duet, i did feel like it made sense that her storyline was intertwined with Cleo's so that they're both chasing the same dream together which was sweet and a good direction to go in rather than making Jude exit by herself. I also felt like they should have just addressed the name of the diner because i was doing the same and zooming into what the name of the diner is, and obviously we usually have the off seasons where they generally mention the updated name of the cafe, but because we didn't have the off season, i was hoping to hear just someone mention the new diner name in the first episode 😭 SO so happy that Winnie is back, she honestly deserves so much and can't wait to see more of her but to me it's criminal that she's been on the show since season 6, and still hasn't been a main character on A troupe, not been to any competition like we need justice now 😅 I'm just wary i think of the whole decision making again, like I just need them to address that Nick has to have the final say on decisions like letting teams share space and it's not the dancers decision, like let's go back to having a responsible adult who's job it is to make those decisions actually carry that role out 😭 Other than that, it was a good solid episode and nothing too cringey for me yet nor nothing too outrageous to get me fuming over, and I'm super intrigued to hear Pete's plot it's definitely one to keep watching because I think it's going to be a focal point of his character especially as it's been introduced in the first episode of the season. and I have to end by saying YES to bringing back guess the reference season 4 we need it asappp! 😅 #tns10when #gtr4when

Great first episode. As I predicted, Dylan left The Next Step to join their sister Margo on their World Tour. Grace really shined this episode and as well as Ariana for being the schemers that they are. I love we got to see Winnie. I love Jude and Cleo scene and I'm going to miss Cleo and Jude. Pete has really developed a lot, Season 7 I love Pete then in Season 8 I love Pete in Season 8A and in Season 8B in kinda went downhill at times and then it progressed, and then in Season 9 Pete is showing vulnerability. I have a feeling that the cafe Cha Cha's is referring to a ballroom style of Cha Cha Cha which is why they name the cafe. It's nice that we got a Jacquie mentioned.

Ik what you mean with guys and girls friendships but we do have a few that didn't turn romantic - Heath and Kenzie - Jett and Xander - Kingston and Lola - Chloe and West - Giselle and west Like Heath and Daisy's plot really bought out development in each other (even though it could've been better) they still have soo much chemistry and they way they look at each other (Heath did press ups bc he was that stressed) they are really cutee!! Its going the ways the original first series were like and i couldn’t be more glad! I feel like 8B was very slapdash & wasn’t well thought through. It really is. Ms Kate specifically tells Riley she can't be on A-Troupe as well as Studio Head and yes, Riley screwed up so many ways in Season 4 and had hella romantic drama, but Kenzie being both "studio head" and dance captain??? I can't realistically believe that it's possible, but Nick was so absent in this episode, she might as well have been both. 😂

I thought they would mention it in this first episode so that's why they didn't try to hide it, but guess I was wrong. I would like to see what if episode from her what if she does Anthony didn't want xander to do the dance battle against heath because Anthony had feelings for heath, but to find out the only reason xander did this is because he's jealous about the alternate situation and has feelings for heath to and heath is clueless about the two boys. #Clude, hanthony, and hander. The lack of Nick screen-time in this first episode worries me, BUT I'll give it a pass since it's the first episode...hopefully this will improve throughout the rest of the season. I enjoyed the first ep overall, it was nice to see Lily again and hearing about Step Inside 2 was cool, the Jacquie name drop had me screaming . I love Heath and Daisy's friendship, and though they're making it so easy to ship them, I'm honestly (for once) trying not to cause I want to see them strictly be best friends with no romantic undertones at all. We have very few instances of a girl and guy being close friends - and only friends - throughout the entire show, so adding to that small pool would be really cool. Now, I'm not looking forward to this 'elite team member(s) sabotaging the next step out of spite' storyline, i'm so sick of it honestly. If any toxicity is to take place in the studio, it'd be more fun to see it happen naturally...as in the team messes up themselves and it causes chaos, not someone fabricating it all and then laughing behind the scenes. I also hope Kenzie acts more like a dance captain and less like a studio head so Nick can fulfill that role, otherwise they might as well take Nick out of the show and have Kenzie be studio head like how Riley was in season 4 (or even have Nick and Kenzie be co-studio heads like Michelle and Emily were). The Pete thing intrigued me too, I'm curious to see what's going on with him, and hopefully it's a storyline that comes up often.

Characters looking at the camera while they dance and addressing them isn't something new in the show, it's just that in this episode it was obviously made way more present and kinda like the main thing. I personally like that they're up for trying new stuff after all this time.

What I also don’t like is Arianas character at least right now. Everything else I loved but her character in particular seems there only to elevate Grace’s character and this got accentuated even more when they were calling her Graces’s minion so I hope she is going to be an actual memorable character for herself not for Grace
