The thing makes Pete’s situation worse is that it’s not just the grief of losing his grandpa. It’s the fact that TNS was the “reason” he couldn’t say goodbye. So dance makes him remember his grandpa but also pauses his grief and guilt. Also in S8, Pete says he works at an old people’s home and that his grandpa calls him the “Fun ambassador” which shows how much he meant to Pete.

Can we talk about Blake's amazing acting?? While they were saying who made it to the next round, he was literally crying for the anxiety, and he's even one of those who made it. Makes it feel so realistic, when I'm too anxious I also cry and it's just like that, I would look the same in Anthony's position.

The situation with Pete losing his grandpa during Nationals and not knowing until after and also missing his chance to say goodbye to him makes that even more emotional and gives even more reasoning to why Pete would struggle being in the studio even after opening up to Kenzie. I wish CBBC hadn’t spoiled this, but I really like how delicate this storyline with Pete is and there’s even more layers to come with this in a future episode which I think many people can resonate with and appreciate. Daisy comforting Heath after he lost his cool with Grace was a nice scene. I really love their relationship. The Anthony and Jett scene was cute too. I was laughing at how annoyed you got with Kenzie still being in the office. It is a shame that they still aren’t using Nick as much. He definitely isn’t taking the same control that he did in Season 7 and 8A, although we do touch upon this a bit later. I also wish they hadn’t spoiled the A-Troupe line up before the season started because it already confirmed Jude, Dylan, Xander and Daisy were out. Speaking of exits, Xander not making it was heartbreaking. I felt really bad for him and everyone’s reaction was devastating especially with Jett and Anthony crying and being the most affected by it. I did like how Heath told him that he will always be a part of A Troupe. I liked the audition vibes even with the slo-mo being a bit too much. It was nice to see Kenzie congratulating Pete and seeing Eldon again is great too. I reckon they’re moving onto the new A Troupe very quickly probably because this season is going to be shorter than Season 8.

Seeing the s9 predictions after watching s9A is actually really interesting and seeing xander,(and then later another dancer from A-troupe) being cut was honestly really sad but I personally really like s9 so far since it reminds me of the earlier seasons in a way. Also, I can't imagine the embarrassment Xander felt after being cut since he was literally the only one, and it was so obvious he was on A-troupe.

i feel like when kenzie allowed ultra elite to audition she should've excluded grace because she already made the team in season 8 and then chose to leave on her own terms, plus this would've given grace even more fuel and a reason to be angry and take the team down

Another scenario that is kind of similar to Pete’s situation is Michelle’s parents divorce. It definitely impacted her dancing and her character. So maybe the show could do something similar where it just stays with Pete and doesn’t just let it go past him. Like others see that his character and emotional well-being is different.

okk so I have to agree with the audition flaw too like I think it was a real bad oversight to put up pictures of the entire a troupe lineup with the new cast, because we know exactly who's going to be cut and who's going to make it. i also totally agree with your thoughts on Xander like he's been on the next step since season 6, literally as long as heath and kenzie and they're both main characters, so they should have given him a better exit in my opinion, and we also didn't even hear a sentence of where he was planning to go/ do next. I'm actually warming to the new characters, even though I think for the first few episodes, it should be more focused on the team before it gets switched up. and don't get me started on kenzie constantly sitting on Nick's chair like she's the studio head, because how hard is it for the writers to just make a clear distinction between someone who's PAID to have a role in comparison to someone who is just a leadership figure in the team. like is kenzie getting paid for basically doing the studio head's job because if I was in her position, I'd be demanding it 😭 ig maybe it's because I'm in my twenties and I literally have a job myself, so I'm seeing it from an adult's perspectives and from the view that if I was doing my managers work for them, but yeah it needs fixing up asap because it's just bugging me 😭 i'm happy it's not overly cringey too like atm obviously haha, but it does seem to be mature and I'm glad we're getting some more depth into Pete's character especially as he goes through grieving, because it's such a common thing where everyone has to go through grief, and dealing with it when you're part of a club or a team and navigating through that is quite tough, especially if he has to do a dance that shows that emotion I can really see it being quite tough for him. and I think we saw Michelle going through such a tough time with her parents' divorce which is equally as common, so it's obviously upsetting, but I think it's good to see another side to the cheerful Pete we always see, and I do want them to tap into the metal side of dealing with grief too. Mental health is super important and tackling that in a well known show like TNS could reach so many audiences and help so many kids going through the same things. ❤

I really enjoyed this episode. I think Xander got too comfortable in thinking he was going to make it to the new round saying it think of it as a warmup. I'm upset that Winnie didn't audition for A Troupe, she's been in B Troupe for so long and we haven't seen her at her full potential like Beth was. I literally thought that Pete was more of Hip Hop Dancer along with Funk and Animation Dancer; more like an Urban Dancer. We need more versatile dancers that we haven't before for example Lola who do Jazz fusion with Ballroom, Daisy who brought a ton of versatility from Season 8. I hope we get a Winnie tap solo hopefully. Where's J Troupe and B Troupe at? We barely saw any B Troupers and Niall who was on J Troupe before auditioning for A Troupe. I'm looking forward to seeing Adele as the season progresses, she brings a unique character and provides a powerful message saying you are not limited; your limitless. I love the scenes that Daisy and Heath had. Never heard of Brad and Jonah before either. Jonah wore the same outfit that we wore when he auditioned for A Troupe in Season 8 and is foreshadowing to Season 9. Ariana and Grace's scenes was great; when Ariana tells Grace that with Grace messing up Heath's chance of making it to the next round which affects her as well; Grace was so clueless and probably doesn't have a desire to be on A Troupe since she wants to mess with The Next Step. I love Xander and Jett's scenes and I wish their scenes were developed more. I feel so sorry that Pete's Grandpa has passed away, I'm glad he powers through the dance. I agree with you on the Nick and Kenzie thing for the purpose of Kenzie sitting in Nick's office and what Nick is really doing at the studio. I'm looking forward to next week's episode.

I would love to see you do a ranking of this first half of Season 9 especially since we’re apparently getting new episodes of the second half at the end of this month, a lot quicker than I thought it would be. 15:50 - To be fair, this was more of an Elite group thing which was constructed by Lucien and Maria. Maria wanted to take down TNS whereas Lucien just wanted to rebuild Elite which is why he offered Kenzie a position for Elite in exchange for giving back their costumes but she declined it. At this point, Grace was no longer a member of TNS so her point about Heath sabotaging his own team is still valid even though she’s a schemer herself. She went against TNS but not when she was on the team. It’s a low blow but a good one.😅 I really like that Whitewall of Grace walking with the Low song playing. It works perfectly for her. It also makes sense for her to target Heath. I’m actually liking her and Ariana scheming together. #TNS10WHEN

When grace said that out of her and heath he was the only one who sabotaged their own team, she technically had a point. Grace knew about the costumes at nationals but she was sabotaging the next step which was not her team. Ultra elite was. Heath sabotaged the next step because he felt guilty and knew what be what doing was wrong. I hate grace but shes not wrong. Just something i wanted to point out.

I had a strong feeling that nick would not be used this season. But it’s even worse because kenzie is taking opportunities that nick’s supposed to handle(auditions etc.) then we would have had more nick scenes. They should have just replaced nick at this point with Kenzie. What’s the point of having a studio head when they don’t even do there job..

I do like that this season the characters seem to have common sense again, I feel like if it was S7 they would've believed that Ultra Elite are good now and until the very last minute they find out they're bad. Whereas now characters recognise the bad they did and don't trust them or choose to trust them for the greater good. I may not agree with Kenzie's choice to let them audition but I can understand the thought process, if you make it on TNS why sabotage YOUR chances at internationals? You're cutting off your nose to spite your face

Ultra Elite getting a chance to audition on a troupe is rewarding bad behaviour (for most of them anyway) can we remind ourselves they cheated at nationals AND STILL LOST and kenzie has acknowledged they could be scheming to take them down so like it's kind if annoying

Completely agreed. Realistically, no one would trust a team that cheated. They know there has been many years of rivalry. They just did it for the plot so Grace could have a way in.

Xander deserved a better goodbye, and I agree he should of went through to the next round and got cut then, it would have produced the same effects. A big issue (for me anyway) this season is some decisions not being believable enough. Like Xander's thing for instance, if it needed to happen fine, but write it so that it's believable that decision would be made, instead of just *doing* it and telling the audience that it makes sense when it doesn't.

Honestly xanders departure felt very out of place for me too. Like it felt too dramatic but not dramatic enough at the same time. I wish there was some sort of build up to it without giving it away that he would be cut. And it all just happened very quickly for me

I can't fault it though tbf, I like how things have happened quite naturally this season rather than unrealistic build ups just for drama. They also alluded to him being cut in his convos with Jett telling her not to worry for example. My only issue was on a personal level feeling sorry for him but plot wise, no complaints!! In terms of Kenzie, in all honesty, I have never liked that the dance captains don't have to audition...like some seasons they do, then some they don't. The dance captain shouldn't just have a free ticket, they are also competitive dancers and dance captains aren't picked because they are the best dancer. And in my opinion, I believe many of the dancers are better than Kenzie but she just gets a free ticket to Internationals. They should have wrote her auditioning, she gets a place then they vote on her continuing as dance captain cause they really liked her.
