I close my eyes and I feel Jesus in my heart and my soul. The words and music can be thought of as one person who has already said angelic. it makes me want to be closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. It brings heartfelt tears to my eyes when I think of all those who have not had the privilege of listening to this angel sing., God has blessed you, Sissel, please continue to bring these emotions to everyone.

Reminds me of the old saying about "what is in the water?" Norway has less than one percent of the world's population (I'm guessing) but has 3 of what I (And many others) consider to be in the top 5 or 6 female vocal artists in the world--Angelina Jordan, Sissel, and Aurora. And between the 3 they cover just about every genre of music there is!!!!

And she is always so radiant when she sings so...radiantly! This is a piece that I normally prefer to hear sung by a treble voice because it is such a purely delicate piece, easily, imo, overwhelmed by an adult soprano voice. I so agree with your assessment of her effortless and simple rendition that is deceptively challenging to attain. Yes, yes - the last note that she closed, but kept going! Her interpretation of Ave Maria here is so delightful. I've never heard it embellished in this way - gorgeous! kzbin.info/www/bejne/anXJeXaXabSSaqc

You're in for a great journey discovering Sissel Kyrkjebø. Yes, she is a awesome soprano, but she has performed many different genres where you can listen to her gorgeous deeper tones too. The best with Sissel is that she is giving all of her emotions into the song just like Angelina Jordan and Aurora. Many singers have great voices, but not all can affect how we feel like the 3 artists I mentioned above can. They have a God given gift. If you want to try out one more recent performance by Sissel I recommend "Slow Down" which she performed live with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City. That song will be medicine for your soul. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3fIaWeLlMSeqpo

"...live and with an orchestra..." and also sung in a concert of pop, folk and faith music with the singer altering her voice to each genre. No easy challenge. An illusion no doubt.

Your pronunciation wasn't to bad. The first part kyrkje was ok, the last part is pronounced like the French bœuf without the f at the end. She has been living in Oslo the last 10 years, not far from where Angelina Jordan grew up.

I discovered Sissel years ago and have been obsessed with this song of hers and play it often. Unfortunately the cd studio version is terrible, not because of her singing but because the tempo just doesn't give her the time to belt the song like she did here in this live version, it just cuts every note short. This live version is still the best version of this song I've ever heard.

The best female cross over singer, maybe any gender. I am not sure what is "classical" and "opera" but I've heard comparasions with soprano opera singer. Opera singers are more powerful, indeed, but what I like about Sissel is apart from the clarity there is a "sweetness" in her voice that makes it comfortable to listen to her singing.
