The scene where cartman and bebe are playing "lambs" and screaming about lotion at the edge of a hole is a reference and basically 1 to 1 dialog of a scene in "the silence of the lambs". So if you haven't seen that movie it is understandable that you were confused by it

South Park holds a mirror up to society and pop culture most of the time. There's lots of other references to films, celebs etc too so some jokes may be lost on a lot of people but ultimately what they do is sheer genius. The Kanye West fish sticks episode is a genius one imo

A lot of jokes in the older seasons of South Park were topical for the time period like the Silence of the Lambs reference. Us in the millenial generation will know most of the references but for younger people watching for the first time it will probably go over their heads. Georgia you should check out Royle Family even in your own time. It's about a working class English family sat on the sofa watching TV. It's hilarious and relatable, you'd love it.

I would say hypno works, but not as presented in shows (though part of it is to create expectations in subjects, which is in itself a suggestion). There is also a lot of variation in how people react to it. There are additional tools used on stage that are not present in therapy like peer pressure, preselecting subjects to get more suggestible individuals, even having fake collaborative subjects mixed in. And filmed shows can be very selective with what is aired and what is discarded. As for regression people do experience that subjectively, and some strongly believe the experience to represent objective reality, but it is very questionable whether it is an actual/historic memory. Probably not relevant in a therapeutic context where it can be a tool to externalise issues and emotions and work on them, but it should not be admissible in court as a real testimony for example. Even our regular memory is not always too reliable, and it can get mixed with a lot of other things in regression.

You are not getting the references from movies. South park is not a show that can be seen like this, every scene has context. You need to see the whole episode to really understand the jokes. To see just scenes, better family guy, that each scene has nothing to do with next.
