Sorry if moomoos have been getting on you for sharing your honest opinion. Solar's flexibility is one of the things I love about her singing and I think her technique has improved dramatically over the last 2-3 years. No surprise since she's probably the hardest working member of a notoriously workaholic group. I think being with Wheein is a good influence on her because Wheein is such a perfectionist and she doesn't seem to let anyone's excesses slide without comment (or satirical mimicry lol). In those concerts Solar had the brass balls to follow up My Heart Will Go On by singing her own self-composed ballad Hello and imo it didn't suffer by direct comparison.

I have posted this earlier but regarding Solar, the reason I think she doesn't have the best technique yet is because she started her vocal training very late. She didn't even want to be a singer so she never got any vocal training until she joined RBW which was about age 21/22.

I think we kinda all know that when it comes to singing technique, Solar might not be the one who has the best technique in Mamamoo. So I'm glad that you give a constructive criticism and I know you did that because you care a lot about her. You know, she's kinda that person who take charge being the power vocal house in the group and doing all those belting part. But despite all of that, in my honest opinion, (at least for me) she's still a way much better vocalist than the majority of other kpop idols main vocalist.

check out Solar's Emotions it's her personal project where she remakes her favorite classic songs. That project showed another side of Solar, even though the songs didn't get much attention she said she still did them bc these are songs she loves. Part 1: "Lived Like A Fool" Part 2: "Only Longing Grows" Part 3: "In My Dreams" (i love this one it's my lullaby) Part 4: "Happy People"/ People Who Give Happiness Part 5: "Autumn Letter" and "Alone People" Part 6: "Where the Wind Rises" (another fav of mine), "It's Been A Long Time", and "Nada Sou Sou" (i lov this one too specially when sung live) and lastly, an original written by Solar "Star Wind Flower Sun solo ver." she wrote this for Mamamoo there's an MV for the full group ver. of the song.

I don't particularly enjoy western pop, but I gotta say Who You Are by Jessie J is one of my favorite songs ever and I definitely agree she's very underrated in general, not just as a vocalist. Also, I'm definitely here for a Kim Yongsun appreciation week. I'd really love to see you react to "Solar being the leader and mother of Mamamoo", that'd be a great start to that week. You could also look through her Solar's Emotions project for more of her vocals. Spit it Out is a BOP and a half! and I'm so glad we were able to give her a 1st win for it, which we couldn't do for Byul's Eclipse U.U which still breaks my heart. At least, we gave Maria 5 wins, so that's something.

I do know you will get some critique when you say Solar is pushing too much, but as a Solar bias I do get it what you mean. I agree with you and I love that you point out true thing! From what I saw from other vocal coach they only say general like "yes strong voice", but you go a lot farther than them! I'm part of the uni choir back in college, and being hard on a vocalist by pointing out their mistakes or misuse of techniques, and tension on your muscles is a normal occurence to singers. If anything, that's just your vocal coach self taking over and over-powering your Moomoo self. Just because you love a certain group/member doesn't mean that you should just keep a blind eye. Mistakes are there, you notice it and you acknowledge it. What matters is how you word it to the people concerned. So, don't worry, Austin. U still good in my list 💚

I would recommend you to react to her cover (and also a rearrangement) of the song 'temptation. The original singer personally choose her to cover it and even cry when she first heard it. On the same episode there is also a short snippet of her singing 'my good old country'. It's on diff clip. Short but powerful. Well at least for me. And she also did a cover of chan chan. Her project of 'solar's emotion or solar gamsung' is also a rearrangement of old song and she is good at it. I love it even though it is underrated in the fandom. It consist of six song btw. You can react to all of it if you want to. I want to recommend some but aaa can't choose. And yeah appreciate it if you watch mamamoo or hwasa/solar cover of save me from myself 😭😭☝

And she likes to be loud, and headstrong so a bit more power to add flair. And many years later, here you can just tell she tries her hardest not to overdo it. The good thing about this performance (the whole solo set) is that she shows off belts with My Heart Will Go On & her solo song Hello, but also her low tone with Fever and then her performance skills with a pop/kpop medley. She's that wholesome. Also, I think people recommend them already but Solar's Emotions also showcases well Solar's voice flexibility and sensibility.

I remember wheein and eventually hwasa confessed that they pretended to be unwell so that the ceo would ask solar to do the high parts in their song 4x4ever. At first, I wasn't a fan of spit it out because I expected it to be.. a it heavier. But now, it has grown on me,I really like that. 😀 Since you like kind of deeper voices as well, has someone recommended BVNDIT to you? They're a group which has Mamamoo as their role models. Same company as Chung Ha. They have a hand full of great songs, sang live since day one, can dance, can all sing, have unique voices, can harmonize. But they're one of the most underrated ones. I'd recommend "Dumb", "Dramatic" or a live stage of "Children". 🙂💕

Aside from My Heart Will Go On, Solar also did cover for I'll Always Love You (which I believe was her audition song at RBW), and Let It Go. You can check her performances and see how she did with those difficult songs. Personally, although Solar doesn't have the greatest technique, she's still an incredible singer and I don't believe she strains her voice except occasionally; most of the time she has it under control. Btw, Solar has other solo songs like It's Been Awhile and Hello, a duel with Kassy called A Song From the Past, a duel with Wheein called Angel, and her Solar Emotion project filled with songs that she loves.

so glad you like “spit it out!” solar received a lot of negative reactions, even from fans, who were disappointed with the song because she didn’t show off with something power vocal-y. but she herself always wanted to show other sides of her voice, especially her cooler, lower registers. personally love her chill voice in “spit it out” and her collab with ravi “leopard”.
