My guess would be less "so they can under-report income and pay less tax" but the main reason is "so it's easier to give someone a 'fuck-off' price." Like if someone is a complete ass and asked for an tattoo of an "88" on his forehead your could just say you charge $900 an hour for face work and hopefully scare off work that's otherwise nothing but trouble.

With regard to schools--you can learn a lot in school--theory, history, and different techniques. However, I think with many jobs, it just makes sense to have a mentor. You need that one-on-one coaching. As a teacher, it helped me to have a mentor--to see how things work in practice. Last year, after 16 years of teaching, *I* got a student teacher, and I was hard on her--not in a bad way. But the "harder" you are on someone (being honest with criticism and working toward their betterment), the better off that student will be.

@ChaseTaylor-p4j

@@nate6511 Sorry I disagree with you too. Any shop that has a “if you wanna tattoo so bad go to a school”” attitude, they probably wouldn’t take on a woman apprentice regardless even if the school wasn’t an option. It’s really just a problem in society that needs fixed. There’s plenty of fields that men don’t accept women because that’s just the old crappy way of thinking; car dealerships, tattoo shops, barber shops.. I think what he said about accepting more apprentices (given they’re a good fit) is true, but also schools should be an option as well just in case a shop has an old school sexist way of thinking. So you’re arguing for no reason✌️😊

I've worked security at bars/clubs where the dress code prohibits face/neck tattoos. In my experience, it was 95% appearances/profiling and 5% keeping people out who would genuinely cause problems. I find it hard to believe the businesses in Australia/New Zealand aren't aware of the cultural significance of those particular tattoos (and can probably tell the difference with biker tattoos).

I’m a machinist, and our apprenticeship system got gutted in the 70’s. You can still get an apprenticeship, but it’s rare, and there are machining schools as well as community colleges and universities that have programs. Most (not all) of the “machinist schools” are a rip off, but the programs at colleges and community ed are pretty good. If your industry has an apprenticeship system, hold onto it with your dear life. Apprentices in my industry are paid, but your payment depends on your experience like a regular job.

On the subject of tattoo schools, I think they are a great idea. People can learn different techniques, both the correct and the incorrect ways of doing tattoos, equipment care, etc. Graduation from tattoo school wouldn't mean they are ready to open a shop and go solo. After ink 101, they enter into an apprenticeship. Similar to electrician school. You learn the proper way of doing things in school and the apprenticeship allows them into a hands on experience. Nursing is the same thing.

Question: in any other profession you get money as an apprentice, at least in Germany. How are you supposed to survive, if you’re expected to be in the studio for at least 8 hours every day without getting paid?! This might work for someone who still lives with their parents, but if you’ve gotta pay rent and food yourself the apprentice thing won’t work.

So my tattoo artist did a piece on my forearm for $950. Already too much, but I’m happy with it. Months pass and we’ve planned out a new piece even bigger. I tell him my budget is 700-800 max that’s including the tip. He free hands the piece and it’s 750. He decides to go a little further and says an extra 50$ for the extra space so now it’s 800$. It’s a back to back session. Thursday was 10 hours and it’s day two and we’re nearly done after 7 hours and he asks to cover a space of my back and I say sure. We’re now done and he says “honestly bro, I’ll probably charge you an extra 100$… it’s now 900$ flat. I felt like shit but it’s a huge nice tattoo. So that’s back in April and last week end of June I asked for an appointment. This mf said “honestly bro, I’ll probably charge you more since I hooked you up. It was a fun portfolio piece for me and it should’ve been 1,400$ instead of 800$. So this forearm will be 1,200$.” So a hookup I didn’t even ask for is now my problem?!

If I only had those types of tattoos then it would seem that way.

Dude yes I get pissed off whenever I see that Daniel Silva guy's corny faces at the beginning of every video. Half the time I skip immediately, but when I do watch to the end I usually feel like the tattoos always have too small of details to last long term. I saw one where he tried to burn someone who copied his tattoo and most of the comments were "I couldn't tell the difference" or "I would get the cheaper one for sure" hahaha

7:45, here in Brazil people cannot discriminate or they will get sued 😅 of course there are some j3rks out there that break the law, but it’s sure cash if they do that - because of the lawsuit. And it usually works

When I was 18 I wanted some nintendo tattoos. Mario, Zelda. Glad I didn't get any of that because I would have hated it today and plus EVERYONE is getting stuff like that now. Nintendo tattoos are like coca-cola. It's become mainstream and no longer unique.

Australian nightclub bouncers are some of the most unreasonable people I’ve ever met. If there’s too many people in the cuz they let too many in, they start kicking people out for no reason but they’ll make some shit up and when you try to understand what you did wrong they just y’all at you that they’re calling the cops if you don’t get the fuck out of here. Everyone in NSW can tell you. It’s fucked

It's private businesses in Aus banning people with neck/hand tattoos, not the government. And realistically, if you're getting your neck/hands tattooed, you should expect some pushback. Just the way the world works unfortunately..
