While there are *many* things that show how bad this finale is overall, I think the "Brienne being ashamed of being a virgin" is a prime display of how the writers completely gave up on actually following the logic of the story. This is westerosi, feudal society, not high school in the 2000s. Brienne being a virigin is not only something that would be seen as a positive trait, but it's something that is *expected* of her. She is a woman, and she has never been married. Not being a virgin would bring shame not only on herself, but on House Tarth as a whole. It's a somewhat minor detail, but it's quite telling. D&D straight up wrote random bullshit and called it a day. They absolutely did not care about even trying to make this remotely good.

Not to mention they completely cut him out of season 5. And later on, they completely drained him of being a real character, and turned him into a stoned, monotone, unfeeling plot device (there is no implication hes going to turn out this way in the books). Even if we completely ignore everything before the finale and say that everything up to that point was written well, Drogon, the Dothraki and Unsullied just letting Tyrion and Jon live after Daenerys' death is one of the biggest examples of plot armor in the show, and I'm not saying this lightly. The writers didn't show the immediate aftermath of her death because they *knew* there was no way to write a believable scenario where Jon and Tyrion aren't killed right away. Daenerys freed the Unsullied, made all of the Dothraki her bloodriders, and they just... Don't care that she was killed? They're some of the fiercest warriors in the world, the North threatening them with what little soldiers they have after the Long Night certainly wouldn't scare them, even if there were just a few of them. And Drogon letting Jon live is... a choice. Anyone who knows book lore knows dragons are protective of their riders only, and aren't above harming anyone else, Targaryen or not. It just felt like the writers wanted to show Dany going 'mad' and then kill her off in the blink of an eye with barely any consequences.

They didn't think to demand their own independence, despite that being their thing? It's especially egregious in the case of Dorne considering they have fought for independence since the beginning of the Targaryen dynasty. This isn't just a small detail to miss, this is a complete disregard of the way this world functions.

practically speaking, It's also more profitable for the North to remain a part of the seven kingdoms. like, It quite literally makes no sense for them to take the independent route. they're one of the poorest kingdoms, has a relatively small population and can barely produce their own food. sure, they mainly export wool, hides and timber but that's not enough to sustain an entire Kingdom + there's not a high demand for it, given the lack of Winters in the South. She left the cities she "freed" when she got bored of it, to get the throne when her people are foreign colonizers to westeros. If Daenerys was good she would have stayed in Essos tried to set up some sort of democratic system, fought at the wall, then came back to help build the economy and maybe stayed as a "protector" patrolling to protect from invaders. Daenerys had the potential to have a legacy that would have marked history and let her obsession for the throne ruin it. Stannis killed his brother and his daughter.

Gendry grew up in King's landing, he was poor and he has a good heart so he'd be a good ruler if he had the right people around him.

Honestly, much like the Danaerys "twist", Bran being king *could* have been set up and paid-off well had they actually spent the time to make enough episodes, and give him the necessary writing. Imagine Bran actually exhibiting some agency by telling people information at critical points over and over again; flexing his omniscience instead of being so mild and cryptic about what he knows. It'd be annoying for the other characters, but if he were instrumental in enough big successes to where people began revering him as an oracle, making the would-be Lord of Winterfell a king might have actually been plausible. Also writing it so that his previous refusal to be a lord was actually more of a foreshadowing for him to be king. Instead, they just wrote him as a weirdo who tells cool stories sometimes.

She went through some of THE most insane plot twists and turns throughout the show, and was such a central figure in creating so much of the drama and intrigue... and in the end what do we get??? An entire season of her just drinking wine and staring out of windows until she just dies by cave in. I actually LIKE that she and Jaime go out in a tragic, romeo & juliet fashion.. But theres just no drama, no buildup, no stakes, no emotion. Jaime & Cersei have been two of the most central characters in the show and they just get a blink if u miss death scene? Kit (Jon) was so unsatisfied with his ending he tried to push for a Jon Snow spin-off show but it didn’t go anywhere because there was simply nothing left to work with. Even Barristan’s actor way back was upset they were going to kill him because he’s alive in the books and so they killed his character in an alley. I feel genuinely terrible for all the people who put their heart & soul and sweat in to the production! The quality of everything , even the acting, didn't drop...it was the writing that fell off a cliff. They choose to embrace spectacle over character development and storytelling, and managed to ruin almost every plotline. Can you imagine if they'd been left to helm that SW project? I could have forgiven the ridiculous fucker-y of S7 if S8 stuck the landing. My Gawd, it did not.

Westeros will never know peace after this anyway lol. Bran who has no real empathy or feelings anymore and can spy on his subjects whenever he wants, so basically a police state and a king who knows nothing of ruling and that no common people could find safety in. Bronn has no experience with money besides wasting it and no experience ruling a territory as large as the Reach. I wouldn't be surprised if the highborn of the Reach would rise in rebellion after that and seat some relative of the Tyrells as ruler of Highgarden. Across the Narrow Sea, Daario would never accept Daenerys being killed, not even mentioning all the slaves that she freed and that regard her as Mhysa. I wouldn't be surprised if the freed cities with the Unsullied and the Dothraki decide to go to war with Westeros for her murder. The Iron Islands would rise in rebellion as would Dorne. Dorne hates Lannisters more than anything so to know that a Lannister continues to be hand would not sit well with them. The North being independent at this point is terrible. Their lands are devasted by war, the numbers of their soldiers stretched thin, and with Winter they need the Reach and Dorne and the Southern lands for their grain. Idk if Bran is basically an immortal creature at this point but if so then there will be no other ruler. And if not, the lords will always tear each other apart when it comes to naming a new king. At this point in the show they need stability and not a basically-immortal being who does not even follow the main religion of Westeros.

Bran, Tyrion, Brienne, Cersei, JAIME (massively - since when did he not care about the people? He’s literally the KINGSLAYER because of how much he cared!), Jon (‘I don’t want it’ 🙄) and especially Daenerys. Terrible. Awful. Hate it. She wanted to break the wheel. She was Mhysa, the breaker of chains, the freer of slaves. Nothing, NOTHING in the previous seven seasons even slightly suggested she would be a Mad Queen. I hate it so much.

Daenerys will always be my queen. If she were in character, she would have flown straight for The Red Keep and they just butchered her. It's fucked. She has ALWAYS fought to protect the innocent, because she grew up on the streets herself, knew poverty, had to be taken in by Illyrio who financed them for a bit and then she was sold etc. She knows what it feels like to starve and roam the streets in her youth before we saw her in S1 for the first time. She had the closest connection to the innocent, to normal civilians. Out of anyone she would have been the last person to directly target children and call it mercy. It just makes no sense for her character whatsoever. I took in that last scene as her burning down the entire shitty last season and poor plot and character arcs in it. Like a purification of the bullshit, of sort. But yeah as far as logic goes, this was not in character for her at all!

The fact that the Night's Watch still exists also baffles me. When I first was trying to guess Jon's ending, him returning to the watch didn't even cross my mind because logically it shouldn't exist?? The purpose of the Night's watch is to - Stop wildlings/free folk from getting into Westeros - Watching for the White Walkers - Defending the Wall - Defending those who live near the wall (Craster's, Last Hearth, etc) - Punishment for the worst of criminals All but the last of these reasons are pointless. The wildlings wanted to escape winter and live on actual land and Mance succeeded doing so, the white walkers are 100% gone, the wall is broken and anything families north of Winterfell (now an independent kingdom from the crown, I might add) is dead. To top it all off, it ended at the start of winter??? Westeros Winters can last decades, so even if they wanted the Night's Watch to repopulate the lands, wait until it's over so you can actually repopulate effectively?? They'd be better off forcing Jon to do community service by perhaps, helping the countless homes destroyed by Dragons or Walkers be rebuilt? Or at least exile him with Arya that way it doesn't send him on a pointless journey.

@CASantos4 ай бұрын
@allshookup1640 right, like having read the books I thoroughly disagree with the notion that she's canonically going mad or that it makes any sense for her character arc. HOWEVER Even if you *had* to write it, it could've been done so much better. Why not have a choice between taking KL and going north to fight the WWs, and show her choosing to pursue the throne over fighting the WWs. And then maybe inadvertently setting off wildfire and leveling the city that way. It would be a lot more morally complex than "wins the battle and then randomly goes GTA 5-star killing spree out of nowhere". The people would still remember her as a destroyer, and then she could've gone north for absolution to kill the WWs and die that way (all the foreshadowing in the books is about the long night and NOT the battle for the throne. So this order of doing things was so...☠️)

@@Mmyythandle yes, it can, but usually it is due to an EXTREMELY traumatic stressor that makes them snap. They also usually show some sort of signs before hand in some way. Dany was under a lot of stress and had a lot of trauma happen, but having her suddenly decide to burn everyone made no sense with who she was. If they wanted her to go mad, they could have set it up better and kept it going. After she burnt everyone, she was just fine. Planning her next mission like she normally does wanting to liberate people etc. It was just written very poorly in my opinion

At least I'm at this point in my life where I can actually laugh at that ending - Euron constantly teleporting, having super hearing, while on the other hand the Golden Company doesn't even have elephants and just burns to death in 12 seconds because they can't hear *a dragon* right behind them - but hey, to their credit, they're fighting a dragon going at the speed of light (or yknow, accurate dragon speed contrary to... whatever plot convenience was needed to kill Viseryon and most of all, Rhaegal) AND respawning Dothrakis and Unsullied. - Cersei, just staring at windows, good on Lena Headey for that easy money. Also, no baby bump even tho she's been preggo for like... MONTHS. In real time ASOIAF, her kid would be like at least 2 years old, yknow, without the teleporting and stuff. - Tyrion, Jon and Arya's plot armors will never be not funny anymore, it's so pathetic how biased the writing is towards them - what's there to say about butchered character arcs? - can we talk about how Tyrion and Jon seem to understand Daenerys' speech in... *not* a language they can understand?? - hey remember when they erased the "King of the Seven (Six) Kingdoms" for a whole season?? But his story is the best, you just haven't been paying attention duh! - Sansa demanding independance for the North and yet a Stark - so a family who is NOT part of the Kingdom - gets to rule??????? D&D, EXPLAIN. - Dorne and Iron Islands just dgaf by the end of it all, they'll overthrow the whole thing and destroy Westeros in two weeks time 🤷♀ - whatever the eff is that Jon ending............ and no, Drogon not killing Jon has nothing to do with Jon being a Targaryen... dragons have maimed, harmed and killed their fair share of Targs lol which is why Daenerys riding Drogon is such a huge deal. It just has to do with plot armor. - I love how everyone's like "oh yeah, go for Cersei Dany, she deserves it!" and then Dany goes for EVERYONE BUT CERSEI and D&D are like "but it's totally in characteeeer" like bruh, no it's not, no one should even pretend and defend this shite. I mean technically even in the episode after the Bells, she doesn't even KNOW whether or not Cersei is alive, like, only Tyrion found her and Jaime like????? H e l p ? And it goes beyond "Daenerys would never attack innocent people", it goes about how the story doesn't even give us satisfying one on one or face-offs or send-offs to characters. Like to those rooting for Arya to kill Cersei, nope, doesn't happen. To those rooting for Jaime to kill Cersei, nope. Tyrion? Nope. Dany, at least? Nei. She dies killed off by bricks. There could've been an awesome scene between Jon and Grey Worm, yknow, soldiers finding a way to accept each other's decisions or whatever, at least something to mend the shit writing after Jon killed Dany, but nooope. No scene between Sansa and Cersei, after everything that happened between them up until s4? 🙃 It's so crazy how this season it's like "oh yeahhh give us nothing!" and they truly did give us nothing. - we don't talk enough about the winter no winter winter again no winter bullshit. The White Walkers were coming WITH Winter, they weren't bringing it with them. Winter suddenly not coming anymore and King's Landing being a barren hot desert just does. not. make. sense! It was snowing last season uuuuuuuuuuuugh - the whole final council meeting is supposed to be TYRION'S TRIAL. Like bruh why is he even ALLOWED to speak and petition for anyone to become King? Welp my frustration has been awoken again. - Bran.... THE BROKEN. Like do you think you would have liked being called "Tyrion the Imp" as a King, Tyrion? Do you?? DO YOU?? - Bronn master of coins, Bronn truly is the most overused, overtired character (and character trope) on the show, along with Euron. But while Euron sure does have an awesome role in the books, Bronn is just some rando who appears and then disappears without being the most annoying cuckhole out there. Impossible to understand why they did what they did with him - I love how everything that was said, planned, set-up at *the beginning of this season* just... fell flat on its face, didn't happen, or got ruined (and not just when it comes to Daenerys or whatever, I mean Euron spends the entirety of s7 plotting to diminish Dany's army, and yet, he didn't even make a dent in it?? At least, not when it wasn't convenient, yknow!). So perfect. - the whole Bells episode, before Dany's mental breakdown or whatever, just proved that she should've docked from these boats back in 7x01, went to King's Landing, war over and casualties avoided in literally 15 seconds. Who was the dumbass telling her not to do that? Oh yeah, I remember. - and Tyrion's whole speech about how it's so pErFeCt that Bran can't have children, while a season ago it became a whole problem for him when he discovered that Dany was barren, or supposedly barren like?????????? This is facepalming-level of retconning and idiocity. Istg by the end of the show I just hated every painful moment where Tyrion opened his mouth, because he kept spewing bullshit that felt like its only purpose was to explain this shit writing and D&D's shit plot.............. How do you have the biggest, best tv show ever produced on your hands, infinite budget, and you write THAT? I just can't fathom this injustice. 😮💨 The only thing that held down til the end was the soundtrack (and everything having to do with production, set designs, CGI, let's respect them too, working their butts off to produce these dragons for them to be ruined like that yknow).

As a book reader, the one thing I was looking forward to the most was jon and dany. Jon is unfortunately still dead in the books, but the two of them are so paralleled both in the books and show I don’t understand how they messed it up this bad. In the books, Dany even hears a wolf howling the night jon dies that makes her feel “sad and lonely”, while jon was literally all alone and dying. But she’s crossing the Dothraki sea on the complete opposite side of the world and wolves are obviously not native in warmer places like that. So it really hurt my heart to see the both of them get done so dirty. I wanted them to flourish from everything they’ve been through, and I wanted Dany to really bring the Targaryen out in him 😂 They assimilate each other too much for it all to mean nothing? And for them to lose whatever arch they had just to turn against each other for something that made no sense to begin with. And I will truly never forgive the writers for it.
