This is going to be a long one but its worth the read, I assure you. At 41:18 you see that there is a rank insignia of two stars, the rocker, the perched cro- uh I mean- Eagle and three chevrons taped to the 117 on the memorial. While you can see two stars, the positioning of the second star in the middle of the insignia means that a third star is actually obscured by that piece of tape. This means that John - 117 was "posthumously" awarded the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON). MCPON is the highest possible rank for ANY enlisted personnel in the Navy at any given time. Likely what happened by the events of Halo 4 when he was recovered alive by UNSC forces, he was relegated back to the rank of Master Chief as a new MCPON would have been selected years before as there must always be a MCPON to advise the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO- The highest ranking uniformed Naval Officer) on all matters relating to naval enlisted members. I know this is a mouthful, but its nice to know that John achieved his promise to Senior Chief Mendez: He made it to the highest enlisted rank possible.

Fun fact: One thing a lot of people get wrong is that they think the original Halo trilogy takes place over a number of years, when in fact the main story takes place over a few months (Halo CE starts September 2552 and Halo 3's last mission ends December 2552), and the end cutscene is a few months later in March 2553. I used to see a lot of comments on the Halo forums from people who thought Cortana was corrupted through years of being held captive by the Gravemind.

The arrival of the Shadow of Intent is one of my favorite moments in the game. The same species that exterminated billions of humans for 28 years is now albeit begrudgingly working alongside them to deal with the bigger threat of the Flood and the Covenant even sending troops to Earth's surface, not as occupiers or killers. But allies and comrades. I like how Truth tells you he knows humans are the reclaimers. "Your forefathers wisely set aside their compassion. Steeled themselves for what needed to be done" as in what the Forerunners did to stop the Flood.

You gotta think. If Johnson hadn't been as sassy with spark as everyone else and was like "hey. I get it. But if we don't do this and risk the ark. We risk everything, and we all die." He would have lived and spark probably would have understood the direness of the situation enough to allow them to go through with the activation because he would know that containing the flood is ultimately more important than securing the longevity of an instalation.

Halo 3 was by far the ultimate halo (gameplay, story, movement mechanics, etc.) but there are things that new halo players do miss out on like the start where chiefs is about to kill arbiter and he says “were it so easy” stating that it wasn’t easy to kill the arbiter then during the final cutscene where lord hood is giving his speech and says “hard to believe he’s dead” arbiter says the same thing “were it so easy” stating that it’s hard to kill chief mad duo in the making, also when Johnson says his line before giving the ar to chief he has different voice overs but the one u got states that good stuff 💨. Over the next year, I discovered Halo 3’s story campaign, online multiplayer, Forge, an anime movie I bought on DVD called Halo Legends which I absolutely loved, the Halo Reach multiplayer Beta which came with Halo 3 ODST and eventually Halo Reach in the following September. That remains my absolute favourite year of being a gamer. Thank you for letting me remember what it was like to discover Halo 3 for the first time. You have my respect from one Halo fan to another. 😊

You should read about the torment Cortana went through talking to the Gravemind. The way she works is shes addicted to information, and the Gravemind put her through psychological torture all the way from Halo 2 to Halo 3 by telling her stuff like shes just being used by the UNSC and that she will be discarded after they’re through with her. Theres a bunch of other stuff he said, but thats the gist of it. She never knew “pain” until she came face to face with the Gravemind. Its part of the reason she started going through rampancy in 4, despite her age by then.

@@GamerJoobChannel Halo 3 was by far my greatest halo experience, from the campaign and the multiplayer, which is super hard to find now-a-day. Watching you respect and clearly take in the cutscenes, made the whole video 100x better! I'm definitely going to check out your full gameplay, gonna binge watch the whole thing ^_^

Master chief approves this video. Your respect for him has granted you the new spartan.

They better make a 20 year anniversary for Halo 3 with Halo 2: Anniversary cutscenes so I can cry again when Johnson dies.

I would love to see them do the cutscenes like they did for Halo 2!

You should definitely try out Halo multiplayer! There will probably be a visible skill gap in the beginning (especially in 3) but it's really worth it!

I see the Arbiter being pals in human bases with Chief and the others. I am filled with hope that in Halo: Infinite the Humans and Sangheili have made a true military alliance. Both races compliment each other so much; too much opportunity to see them separate.

It's no wonder SGM Johnson was one of the very few people he considered his friend who was not a Spartan 2. Because SGM Johnson is himself a Spartan 1 from the first generation!! He's one of the only friends he has, and their brotherly bond from battle is what made the first 3 Halo games phenomenal. I just saw a video about one producers decision for how Johnson ends up at the end of this game. Was probably the si gle worst decision Bungue, even 343, has ever made. Halo was never legendary since then. 2007 was the golden year for Halo fans.

For context purposes only @gamerjoob John 117 and Cortana where supposed to die in the end of Halo 3, bungie wanted to end halo at 3 games.

Johnson's death used to hit hard but since halo infinite it hits even harder.
