Ted Levine, Bill, is an incredibly talented character actor. I love him most as Lieutenant Stottlemyer on Monk, with Tony Shalobe, as Monk's ex partner on the San Francisco police department before Monk's wife died. The way his character still cares for and admires his friend is foundational to the series.

Hannibal and Red Dragon are definitely worth watching. The tone of Hannibal is less thriller and more slasher. Red Dragon is a prequel that follows a different character but returns to the roots Silence established. Hard to live up to the original though.

*REALLY* appreciate your intro, Ollie. I also first-time saw this when I was 11? years old, and I got to re-first-time it in my 20's. In the theatre (when I was a kiddo) the _only_ thing I really remembered was that as the credits rolled while Hannibal vanished into the crowd to be amongst us...everyone just sat there in the theatre. This film was such a huge success at the time and had a generational impact, not to mention being only the third film ever to get the full sweep of main Oscars with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay. It was a cultural landmark and a masterclass in high quality, suspenseful drama, the like of which Hollywood hadn't seen since Hitchcock's prime. I hear you if you don't want to watch the movies and series that followed, but I would recommend you watch the film Manhunter (1986), it is more of a detective thriller and will have you on the edge of your seat, and was a story set before this movie but with a completely different cast and creative team.

This was one of my father’s favorite movies. We always joked that it was his Easter movie to go along with The Shining, which was his Christmas movie. I highly recommend the book, and the first one too, Red Dragon. I’ve read both multiple times. The first scene and the last one with Clarice and Lector are two of my favorites in all of cinema. I can watch them a million times, and would not get tired of them. But every scene between them makes is fantastic.

Chilton: The doctors managed to reset her jaw, more or less. Save one of her eyes. His pulse never got above 85, even when he ate her tongue. We did not even see the picture Chilton showed Starling, so it was left to our imaginations, a good decision by the director, knowing when to show and not to show something. At this point, we have not even seen Lector, and this is the image we are already prompted to imagine. Great stuff!

This movie still holds up after all these years as one of the best thrillers of all time. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins are probably at the best they ever been and they have incredible chemistry together. Hannibal and Red Dragon are definitely worth watching, they are just not as great as this one. I would say watch Hannibal at least because it is a direct sequel to this movie, it’s just unfortunate that Jodie Foster didn’t reprise the role of Clarice in that movie.

The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real. 2. Ted Levine/Buffalo Bill was so disturbing that he received death threats after this was released. 3. The FBI actually let them use their Quantico facility to film. 4. In the book Crawford did have a "thing" for Clarice. 5. "I'm coming to get you Murdock". The late Charles Napier/Lt. Boyle played Murdock in Rambo First Blood II. A great first time/share. 6. Everybody is hitting on Clarice but IRL hitting on Foster is a waste of time and effort. She doesn't fly that way. 🙄 She has been married to a woman since it became legal in Caliphony. 7. Dr. Lecter was treating Clarice 8. Others will pass this to you as well but: This movie won ALL 5 of the big Oscars.😎 Levine should have gotten best supporting.

You need to carry a jack with you, man! I understand that a lot of young people haven't learned how to change a tire themselves, and rely on things like Triple A (I have it myself) but you definitely do NOT want to be stuck on the side of the highway alone, especially at night, and you can't always rely on cell service. Invest now in a good spare tire, a key that you're sure fits your lug nuts (if you need one; my car does) and a jack. Many jacks come with the lug nut wrench (aka tire iron) included the lever for the jack. Trust me on this: you don't want to wait for a flat (or worse, a total blow-out) before you have what you need. Please don't put it off. It's really quick and easy to do, especially if you find someone trustworthy to teach you, and practice doing it a few times at home. ❤

I live about 45 minutes south of where most of the film was shot. Allegheny and Fayette County seems to be prime locations were scenes were shot. A lot of areas in around Pittsburgh doubled for West Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio locations. As always you did another great vid. Keep it up.

There are certain meds you shouldn't take with grapefruit juice or milk, for example. And then there's booze, period, much less just chianti that you shouldn't ever mix with certain meds.

Your car should have a jack. Probably under the trunk's floor, with the spare tire. If it doesn't have a jack, you should absolutely get one. Otherwise, if you blow a tire in a remote place, as most of Canada is, you will be very unhappy about it. And it happens more often than one might suppose. I've had to change tires at least four times in a decade, and that is with new, well maintained cars and tires. There is a lot of pointy rubbish on the highways that one cannot even see. It has happened thrice were I came back to the car from the store, or in the morning, to see a 100% flat tire, only to find a screw or nail in it from who knows where. So, you should have: 1) Jack, 2) Spare, 3) Road flares/lights/reflectors, 4) flashlight, 5) Tire goo that can quick repair a hole in the tire, 6) 1st Aid Kit, 7) Kitty litter/salt for ice, 8) For Canada, a couple wool blankets, thermal blanket & a tarp. 9) For Canada in winter if you live in a rural area, or traverse one regularly, hatchet and fire starting kit.

I'm having an old friend for dinner Don't worry, many of us felt the same - not so bad if he ate Chilton. This movie has 3 disturbing characters- Hannibal Lecter, Buffalo Bill, Dr Chilton. You could understand Bill being completely unhinged given his insanity. You warm to Lecter because of his tenderness with Clarice. However Chilton doesn't have redeemable qualities. The inappropriate flirting , taking credit , taunting patients/ prisoners. Maybe you need to be a bit or become insane running an insanity asylum

Director's name pronunciation: Jonathan Dem-ee. He has directed many great movies in 80s and 90s, including one of best concert films of all time, STOP MAKING SENSE.

Manhunter (1986), directed by Michael Mann, featured the first appearance of Hannibal Lector. really good movie, some even like it better than silence. keep on rockin

Jonathan Demme is great. You would really enjoy Something Wild. And Married to the Mob is a good bit of fun.
