When the Zombies started, their management felt singles and concert tours were where the money was. So, as far as albums go, this was pretty much the Zombies only time to shine. Thanks for this, it was lots of fun!

This Will Be Our Year is such an amazing piece. What I love about it is that it's so uplifting, yet not in a sappy way at all. The characters in the song have been through hard times, but they hang on to hope and see brighter days ahead. The lyrics really distill what love is all about, imo.

"Friends of Mine"! So underappreciated. Much as I love "Time of the Season" and "She's Not There," you hear them all the time-so "Friends of Mine" and "Care of Cell 44" might be my favorite Zombie songs. Just so joyous.
@NyMyers6411 ай бұрын
Nice one, Crystal. I was pretty sure you would recognize "Time of The Season". That song ended up becoming a hit in the US a year after the album release and the band had already broken up. You would probably also recognize their first hit from 1964 "She's Not There". The Zombies keyboardist, Ron Argent, went on to form Argent and they had a big hit with "Hold Your Head Up" which you might recognize also. Have a great week!

Crystal, here are a few future album suggestions for you: “The Monkees”(1966)-The Monkees. I highly recommend checking out their tv series, too. This is their debut album and it is chock full of hits. “Goodbye Yellowbrick Road” (1973)-Elton John. Classic album with so many hit songs, including the title track but it also has great deep cuts. “Close To You” (1971)-The Carpenters. You will fall in love with their harmonies, and especially Karen’s voice. Music comfort food is what I call it. “Ringo” (1973)-Ringo Starr. Ringo’s most successful album. It is the closest we would ever get to a Beatles reunion while John Lennon was still alive. “Foxtrot” (1971)-Genesis. If you love progressive rock from the 1970s, you will love the early Genesis stuff with Peter Gabriel. The track “Supper’s Ready” is over 20 minutes long, but it is epic. Thank you for being you, Crystal and thank you so much for your friendship. I am beyond grateful to know you. 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

This album was awesome, so it's so great to see you discover it and hear your expert analysis. As others mentioned, it was recorded at Abbey Road, and you can hear it in the sound. Loved your video production, too!

If you get a chance, check out the mono version of "This Will Be Our Year". It has a trumpet that was added after the stereo mix was already done; the Zombies' limited production budget did not allow for a retrofit.
@thomaspappalardo758911 ай бұрын
Honestly, I feel the trumpet is a bit distracting and superfluous.

Crystal! How are you? It’s so nice to see and hear you again. The Zombies are truly a unique band. They are one of the few to survive the British Invasion and get better with time. They adapted. I agree with you Rod Argent of the Zombies formed the band Argent which had a hit called "Hold Your Head UP" in 1972 Wiki "Hold Your Head Up" is a song by the English rock band Argent, first released as a single in 1971. The song was a Top 5 hit in the US, the UK, and the Canadian charts, peaking at No. 5 in all three countries. (The song was originally 6:15 minutes but edited down to 2:52 in order to get radio play and 3:15 minute long for the singles market).

One of the gems of the 1960s. Great choice, CS. The production and arrangements are rich, without being overwrought, and there's lots of nice details in the individual songs. The instruments and voices are all well recorded. Rod Argent's organ soloing on Time of the Season is classic. The best companion to this album would be Love's "Forever Changes" album from 1967.

Hey Crystal! Love your reaction as always! One little note, and I say it with love, could you please turn down the movie/show snippets in volume for the next video? Or turn yourself up? Maybe like 4db (I haven't checked). I mean, they keep me on my toes to adjust volume on the fly, but it keeps me from adding this video to my rotation. When I'm off screen, and have the playlist on, I can't always get back to the PC. It's just one little thing, and I hope it doesn't create anxiety of adding one more thing to worry about when recording a video. As always, you are a joy to watch, and I'm looking forward to every video. You truly are a treasure. ❤❤

Hey, Crystal, thanks for the note alerting me to this debut (You ALMOST beat the YT algos to breaking the news, heh). I have been checking out some choice Beatles reactions lately, and just a day or two ago re-visited your "Abbey Road." (I needed my Crystal Critique fix, lol!.) I didn't leave a comment, but it was great to see your being gobsmacked by the album (and properly so!). Like some other reactors, you have a lot of reviews I fear I'll never be able to make time for, but c'est la vie. For whatever reason, the Zombies never grabbed me, not even in the horror movies, but I will hear them more now. I skimmed this vid and dug the rug..."...being pulled out from under us again" comments, and your usual clever use of media and quirky editing thruout. "What's the word?" u asked? --THANKS!

You can hear the Everly Brothers in both. No foolin'. If your looking for origins, the Everly Brothers were influence and inspiration for all groups employing close harmonies in their vocals; Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Kinks, The Beach Boys, Zombies, CSN, BeeGees, and many more all gave credit to the EBs. Give them a deep listen and you'll hear them in every great band.
