Loves this stripped back version, made me appreciate these songs in a new way. Their transitions between songs in the livestream was flawless. In an interview about Heathens and the meaing behind the song Tyler said 'we kinda got shoved into the mainstream and i felt like i always wanted to explain to the mainstream audience about our fans and who we really are and kinda bring them along and go, listen, this is what you should expect, you know, tread lightly but we're powerful and these kids have something to say and they're worth listening to!'

Suicide Squad approached Tyler and wanted him to write a song about guns for the movie - he refused and said he would write a song that made sense within the bands music and if they wanted to use it they could Heathens is truly about their rise to fame and warning all new fans about how the clique (top fanbase) and how they might not be accepting at first - but then it ends with "you might be one of us" saying that you might fit in with the current fans and you just don't know it yet It obviously makes sense within the movie too - so win for everybody

I adore this mashup and was in love with it when I saw it during the livestream. With the song Heathens, it is widely theorized that the Heathens video (take out all the Suicide Squad imagery) takes place before HeavyDirtySoul's video does. Tyler (or Clancy) was trapped in a Dema jail and performed which caused a riot and let everyone escape, however, he was not able to because someone has to stay. Then Tyler is sent out into the world with Nico driving him in HDS to try and lure escapees back. Josh was in the prison trying to lead Tyler to help the other prisoners and then is there again in HDS trying to stop the car and cause Tyler to realize he can escape too. That leads in to Jumpsuit and so on. Trees is the song they have always used to close out their live shows - and it usually starts slow and ends very fast and crazy. Tyler usually talks before it too, about how that song connects them to their fans and it's one of their favorite songs to perform because of that. However, the livestream was all about being stuck in Dema and having to perform for them, yet they were able to sneak in subtle messages to the Clique. I feel like this was one of them but it was slowed down because of how "trapped" they were. It was Tyler saying "We know you're (the Clique) there, stay with us". So the connection to Trees makes sense to me because they're trying to escape Dema again. I know this all seems like a big huge stretch, but you have to keep in mind all the details that have been put into the world of Dema and the clues that have been confirmed. haha

The Outside is a great song! Although if you aren’t familiar with the TØP lore, you’ll be a bit confused by the video 😹 You would need to go through the Dema journey (heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, Levitate, (Chlorine for ), and Saturday … which leads directly to what happens at the beginning of The Outside video.) I definitely recommend the journey! It’s a wild ride 😼

He wrote Heathens for the Suicide Squad movie, but it also relates directly to their fanbase being "heathens" who weren't accepting of new fans at the time, believing they were fake fans who only came because TØP was super popular.

The session tracks with MUTEMATH are unreal! And Paul Meany has co-written some songs with Tyler and produces quite a bit for TØP. So seeing the way the collaborated on TOPxMM sessions was amazing! You should check out the videos. In addition to “Heathens” they did “Car Radio,” “Ride”, “Tear in my Heart,” and I think my favorite was “Lane Boy.” They finish the song with a sick drum-off … not sure which drummer is crazier 😹 Love them
