The passion Mark brings is irreplaceable. He puts a different emphasis on different words than is typically done and brings such skill. He's sitting down in this performance because of his MS. He sang with the Gaithers for years and has some truly hilarious comedy routines available on KZbin also.

Mark Lowry actually wrote this song back in 1985. First performed by Michael English in 1991. Music written by Buddy Green in 1991. Oh yeah...the soprano is Katie Lott. 😬

The gentleman to the far left as you look at them is the wonderful Jamey Ray. He does all of Voctave's arrangements and founded the group. Most of Voctave's members are past or present performers with the Voices of Liberty who sing at the American Pavillion in EPCOT at WDW. Mark Lowry sang for several decades with the Gaither Vocal Band. He wrote the words to this when he wondered what he would ask Mary if they were just sitting down for a cup of coffee. He took the lyrics to Buddy Greene, one of his best friends, and he wrote the music. Mark has multiple sclerosis which is why he is sitting down to sing even though that makes it harder to sustain the notes. Thanks for the fun reaction. Merry Christmas!

Mark penned 'Mary Did You Know' as a poem which he used on a Christmas card one year. Several years later he sent the lyrics to several friends to get suggestions for putting his poem to music. His friend, Buddy Green, who is a marvelous harmonica player, composed the original music in this gorgeous minor key. Check him out. Much later, Mark Lowry sang 'Mary Did You Know' as lead in this Utube video. The group of singers known as Voctave is an acappella group that sometimes sing backup as they did with Mark, but when they sing as a group, they use as many or as few members as required for the individual productions! Kudos to everone in Voctave for everything they are part of! Mark was sitting down in this video because he has MS. It is incredible that He had such marvelous breath control.

Also, I know this is a year late. But Mark recovered from Throat cancer before he sang this. He was told he would never sing again because of it. But he us still singing even to this day.
