It's great when the information is fully correct. I'll use one example in this video- our skin itself doesn't regulate oil production. That's related to hormones, which control the glands. The skin being moisturized is what helps the dead skin slough off & not sit on top of the pore, the oil getting trapped inside is what makes a pimple. Skin is a complicated thing, & I agree that explaining things is great, but frankly, I'm not at all convinced of this girls credentials. She's big on the science, but rarely has studies to direct her viewers to so they can read the actual research. If you follow the timeline of her life, if she's actually a practicing esthetician, she's only been doing it for 3-4 years max, absolute max. You can work in a lab with absolutely no education & be the person setting up the dishes & pushing buttons....it doesn't mean you have any formal education or practice in research. I've been watching a lot of her videos bc I'm trying to like her, but I'm finding a lot of very poor explanations, relative to the full picture & very, very rarely a reference to a real, respected study. The fact that she hardly addresses the role of hormones in acne is silly. & It seems to me she's really blowing her experience out of proportion. & I think her perception & what she preaches is also very skewed. She's really big on what "studies show", but there's more to it than that. Knives cut, no one is going to fund a study to prove that. It's common sense that sharpness & angle of an edge determine how a knife will cut, but no one is ever going to start saying "knives don't cut" bc there's no study. So much of skin care is anecdotal & always will be bc studies won't ever be done in such detail that every participant had the same hormone levels, skin tone, amount of damage etc.

As a brown girl, the skin on my neck, chest and parts of my face are all different shades. My face is lighter around my cheeks and eye area (like a MAC NC40 or Fentybeauty 300), then it darkens near my chin and mouth area (MAC NC42-44 or Fentybeauty 310-320), and matches most of my neck, which has more darkness on the sides (MAC NC44 or Fentybeauty 320 are usually perfect for my neck). And then the rest of my body and chest is about the same shade (mostly lighter) than my cheek area, so if I matched my foundation to my chest, my face and neck would look ashy af. But yeah besides the makeup struggle, I also have a very similar issues to Zoey Deutch, like that bloating thing after waking up cause I sleep on my sides and also the war with acne (just gotten into skincare 2 years ago, prior to that I never moisturized, now I mostly use The Ordinary or Korean skincare stuff, especially Purito). So I'm really grateful for Cassandra's tips, explanations and product recommendations here!

@@kppi.1161 A big reason why I've got this type of hyperpigmentation on my chin and neck is cause a decade ago, I tried using whitening products (nothing too drastic, just typical counter creams and face washes that claimed whitening from Ponds and Garnier, especially the one Priyanka Chopra used to advertise) and back then my hyperpigmentation on my chin was just a little lighter than it is now, but my neck was much darker. I messed those parts up by putting direct line juice on both parts, and I'd also use apple cider vinegar as acne treatment cause of all the natural beauty people online lol. That really messed up things, and I've only been doing proper skincare to address that hyperpigmentation for 3 years. The results are visible, but it took a lot of patience, testing and researching based on my personal experiences. I've been using The Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%, which is a derivative of Vitamin C, but prior to that I've been using direct Vitamin C serums. Only reason why I stopped is cause the derivatives are less harsh and what the lady at the The Ordinary counter told me was it's also longer lasting and doesn't need refrigeration. Initially I started off with the Klairs Vitamin 5% C drop, and then graduated to the stronger Vitamin C solution from Wishtrend (the 21.5% one). Those actually lifted up the darkness by my neck by a lot, but I rarely put the 21.5% on my chin cause I was busy dealing with chin acne. I do see some results on my chin area with the Ascorbyl Glucoside, even though I've only been using it for 2 months. Start off with either Ascorbyl Glucoside or a small % of Vitamin C serums. Make sure ingredients in your other skincare products don't clash with the Vitamin C or Ascorbyl Glucoside by searching online for what can and can't be mixed in 1 skincare routine.

My blush has that ingredient! And here i thought it was the brush that was breaking me out in that area. It would be interesting to know more about the ingredients in make up and how they affect acne prone skin!

Cassandra, you are amazing! I just love watching your videos and listening to ALL your insights on skin concerns even though I might not necessarily have those issues...I learn a lot from you! Can you make a video on demodicosis, please? I went to a derm who told me I have this issue mostly because of stress and because I have sensitive skin with rosacea...honestly I am not sure the cream she prescribed is good (something with metronidazole in it) because it seems to temporarily "treat" it but the inflammation comes back after a few days...and now with the quarantine I can't really go back for a check :( there aren't a lot of videos on this...thank you so much for everything you are doing!

Oh my god I thought you looked familiar but when you showed those clips of you with acne I remembered! I followed with your journey through that because I myself had acne and it made me feel a lot better not being alone. Can't believe that's you!

I watch some of your videos and reaction videos wins my heart Everytime. So.. What I like about it is: (1) you put your video side by side with your reaction, so I can see the video you react with you. it's not that I have to see the original one to follow after I watch your video or before. (2) when you pause the video and you explain it to use you use a picture that really helps me a lot to understand what you're trying to explain. (3) this is a preference BUT, I like a clean background. not the one with lots and nice and neat decorations. but solid white. probably because you put a picture in order to explain that's why you put and use a white one. that's clever. I love you so much💜
