This is the reason why 2NE1 was sooooo popular their music speaks volumes about real life issues and Ugly was one of it. They dont do the typical cutesy kpop girl group stuff and their artistry are just immensely the BEST. MORE 2NE1 PLS. I still remember the day this song came out so clearly. my sisters and I were stalking the Korean tv channel we were subscribed to for any signs of this music video... when we all finally got to watching it, I'm sure all three of us cried a little bit. I miss 2NE1 so much :( BLACKJACK since day 1💕

Also ‘Ugly’ doesn't just mean ugly, it can also stand for misfits, outcasts, or people who think they're different, those who just couldn't fit in to the normal context. 2NE1 members (except Dara, who haters called untalented🙄) weren’t considered beautiful by korean standards. Even YG’s ceo called them as such (which is so sad). But each of them are hella powerful and talented. No one can compare to their stage presence and charisma. There is a story behind this song. Their former boss YG, was known to openly state the 2NE1 members were ugly, (he has said the same about the BIGBANG members) he can be quoted saying that Blackpink is the prettier and more talented version of 2NE1. He called CL ugly to her face. And Park Bom I believe suffers from Body Dysmorphia. She has said she actually cried while they were recording this because she has felt that way about herself.

Tanaka Devas yg didnt handle them very well first of all bigbang had the same issue like 2ne1 had but yg handled it very well how can you say that yg really cared for 2ne1 up til now dara's promised album is not yet out and cl has been ignored for the past months yeah they may not stay forever but they will still be together til now if only they were appreciated and handled very well

2NE1 was always viewed as an "ugly group" even by YG. He used to call them mean things like (you're ugly) and stuff. That's how Park Bom ( the vocalist also the oldest) got plastic surgery to make him think that she's pretty. He wanted to make CL( the leader,main rapper lead dancer) do it aswell but she cancelled. They were also the frst girl group to say "It's alright to no be pretty,just be yourself" or something similar. They broke records. And me being a blackjack I'll never forget them😊

In terms of stage presence, the only other group I feel that comes close to Big Bang is 2ne1. I recommend their 2015 MAMA performance (CL + 2ne1). Just as a background, CL was the only one who was supposed to perform. 2ne1 has been put on a hiatus because of some issues about Bom (this a whole other sad story). But anyway, it was a surprise to all when 2ne1 suddenly shows up and they absolutely kill the performance. This sadly was also their last ever stage. But what a way to go. They also have a great performance of Crush here on YT.

I was a victim.of bullying as well. When I was a kid, their were people who will call me names like Kirara ( It's the name of a TV character who has dark complexion) or will call me negro. I have curly hair and has morena skin. Then when I was a teenager, there was a group of kids who threw water on me. In the Philippines, there are still people who thinks that having dark skin and curly hair is ugly. Until now I tend to get scared or nervous going outside or passing by a place with group of boys or girls because of what happened in the past. When I heard this song.. even if I didn't understand the lyrics before.. I feel I can really relate to it.
