Apparently when he started sobbing his family and friends were at the front yelling to stop crying and keep singing. They muted the audience audio a little so it wasn't heard during the performance. Lol, he is a very emotional performer because the songs that he selects to sing have true meaning to him. This particular song "Not the Same" he had written back in 2015. It is about his struggles as a 6 year old, diagnosed with Aspergers, unaware about his sexuality, living in public housing, moving from home to home in a religious community. Very emotional, but it is also a song that can connect with others on different levels. Whether you have ever felt out of place or not accepted as an individual, this truly hits home for most people. A true masterpiece!!! 10/10.

I'm a 63 year old straight female. I can fully relate to this song. Have always felt on the outer and that no one truly understands me. I think we can all relate to this in our own way. It's stunning. Good luck this year to Sheldon and Australia.

Watch his winner performance at the end when he actually breaks down - it is a real tear jerker. Front row witness! Still makes me cry. Thanks for the great reaction

What a beautiful reaction. I hope Europe responds in the same way when he takes this to Eurovision

I should add, this song is about him being diagnosed with Asperger’s at age 6 but also a bit about being LGBTI in a religious family……. But mostly Asperger’s.

@@bvrt3069 the opening lines introduced us to his life with Aspergers , “I was told at 6 years old, they’d avoid me of my heart was cold, found it hard to talk and speak my mind”

It's an emotional rollercoaster. It's not a song I think I would listen too, but the performance is high impact and leaves me in pieces every time. It's very quietly underrated and will sneak up on people live.

I agree with you 100% I feel the exact same way - the live performance crushes me everytime but I wouldn't listen to the song that often otherwise.

The low view numbers is because while the official video/live performance has been out for 2 weeks it was only uploaded a few days ago. Others were uploaded before his was. Having said that, I agree with you 10,000%! Even though I am Australian, this is my number 1! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Probably the best executed message of diversity and tolerance ever, but the timing is unfortunate and we've seen similar many times. It's preaching to the choir as far as Eurovision audiences at this point, even if it can still hit hard some of us at the individual level.
