Bandmaid is simply the best rock band in the world today. The talent of these ladies is unreal. This song was one of their first songs they released and they since grew and developed even more. You can tell this song is so easy for them to play... they can do it on their sleep. There are just so many great songs to discover. I will suggest Domination (live version). That song is just amazing and catchy. But you can’t go wrong doing any song of theirs.

Akane Trivia: She started out in music as a trombone player...she still plays trombone BTW. Yes, drums are her second instrument. MISA started out on brass/woodwinds/piano, Kanami didn't play guitar until high school (she is a trained pianist), Miku just carried a guitar on-stage as an ornament until Kanami trained her. For the record, Saiki also plays acoustic guitar.

She recruited Kanami, who recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Then they collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual solo.

G'day Tom. Probably dawning on you that the rock and metal talent in Japan runs really deep. Band Maid just happen to be an international favourite; a talented, very tight, hard working Band who have consistently high quality, high energy performances. You've covered some of my other favourite bands in your reaction catalogue, but now you've hit the feel-good Rock Queens. Akane - you now know as mistress of the drums, band captain, part-time gorilla of voracious appetite, and party DJ Saiki - main vocalist, queen of fashion, the crowd and the stage Kanami - lead guitar, prodigious riff machine, genius composer and ultra-shy Rock Star Miku - second vocals, rhythm guitar, band founder and heart, PR machine, and band Pigeon (...yeah, later) MISA - (aka MISA! MISA! MISA!) virtuoso bassist, barefoot assassin (the quiet one you need to watch)

I'm soo tired of all the people who see them for the first time talk about stage costumes like it is something new. Just about every black metal-band use clown make-up, Rammstein is virtually musical theatre and Judas Priest started using gay club outfits in the 80's. The silliest one I've heard so far was a friend who wanted me to go see Rammstein, being dressed in a Kiss t-shirt saying it was something new with stage outfits... The stream was great! I really liked their opening act as well! 😉

They are in French Maid uniforms.. except the bassist, I think that's a Japanese domestic/household maid uniform.. ie.. Band "Maid".. Miku "rhythm guitar./backing vocals" started the band and she used to work in a traditional Japanese Maid cafe where they wear these French Maid uniforms. So, it became their "Gap". "the Gap" is a Japanese thing where two things don't seem to go together.. like.. a band of maids playing kick ass hard rock music.. kind of makes you sit back and process what your watching for a while at first...

To me they are both by far the best bands out there barnone there's no one else even close to those two bands. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin is a huge fan of Akane from band-maid the drummer. He went out of his way to go see them perform and ask to meet Akane backstage to get a photo with her. He will not do that for just any ordinary drummer. I'm into lyrics, so listening to them took some adjustment. Although they will throw in an English line now and then where it works, as respect to the native language of rock, often the accent makes it sound Japanese anyway and I may not recognize it. So I learned to search for translations using for example: Band-Maid Freedom lyrics English Most English translations are imperfect, but should get you close to the idea. In this case, it is a defiant, yet triumphant and joyful declaration of personal freedom. She (lead lyricist Miku, red rose and pigtails, second guitarist) is saying, Look, I'm going my way, and you can accept me as I am or go away. This is their favorite song from the early days to do live, and they play with it to keep it fresh, sometimes adding an intro or outro and changing it two or three times in a tour. This version is much loved, most often for its great drum solo by Akane (Ah-kah-neh), and the magnificent transition back that follows. BTW, fans of Band-Maid and Akane in particular include a fellow named Jimmy Page. After seeing the band play at an awards show in Tokyo in November 2016, he asked to meet her and get a pic with her backstage, which happened. Encouraging words about her drumming were said. All impressive talents and amazing humans.

Bands in America? Yeah, not saying much. Ever since the pathetic downclimb in US music stomped on the accelerator with Pearl Jam's incoherent mumblings into a microphone the only option for good music was to go overseas. Thank God for Band-Maid breathing life back into a dying industry!
