Christy was the girl on the calendar. Elle was a 90's supermodel and this was made in the 80's. Her outfit could be worn today and be cool, but look at her face. Christy's era emphasized the natural look, the point being that you shouldn't look like you had any makeup on at all, which is the exact opposite of what makeup is today.

Elle was 80s too and all three met at the same time in 1982 on the Caribbean island of St Bart's when Paul Simon suggested it to Billy as somewhere to get away from it all after he had recently divorced his first wife. Christie, Elle and a then unknown Whitney Houston were on the island doing a swimsuit modelling photoshoot for Sports Illustrated magazine and all four of them were staying at the same hotel, with the three models having gathered around the hotel's piano that Billy had been playing at the time of their meeting.

Hard to believe Christy was Billys 2nd choice.. he was hooked on Elle McPhearson who was 19 at the time, Christy was in her mid 20's.. Christy gave Elle her shot at Billy, but in the end Billy went with Christy .. on the trip were he met Elle and Christy, another Lady was flirting with Billy... Whitney Houston who was not "famous" yet

Christie is ten years older than Elle so would have been 29 when Elle was 19 and Billy was 33 or 34 when they all met at the same time. Being 14 to 15 years older that Elle probably did not feel right to Billy, as opposed to only being four or five years older than Christie and although those 15 years might not matter too much at 60 and 75, they can do to some people when the 15 years difference is much earlier in their lives.

This is still a good Billy Joel song, it just suffers a bit from over exposure and from not being one of his best ones. It had its time and place though because the whole An Innocent Man album that Uptown Girl appears on was a concept album, where Billy was giving a nod to the music styles he grew up with in the 50s and 60s, with this song being a homage to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
