The whole "An Innocent Man" album was meant to be hamages to Billy Joel's muscial influences. Another doo-wop hit from the album is "Uptown Girl", whose music video features his future 2nd wife, supermodel Christie Brinkley.

I love that you picked up how he switched the last line from "That hasn't happened for the longest time" to "I intend to hold you for the longest time". Billy Joel has always been one of my favorites, and part of it is how his lyrics are so creatively put together. One of my other favorite rhymes is "I'll take my chances; I forgot how nice romance is".

The premise of the video is that Billy in his later years (hence the glasses and greying hair) is at a school reunion from his class of 1959 and the photos on the wall are his schoolfriends with labels describing them, such as best dressed, most likely to succeed and so on. They all then start singing the song and switch from the then present day, back to when they were younger, with Billy not wearing glasses and his hair is slicked back to his younger look and is why the janitor looks confused at the end. The Longest Time is from Billy's 1983 album An Innocent Man, where the songs are a homage to the music that Billy grew up listening to in the 50s and 60s, so the title track was a nod to Ben E. King and the Drifters, Uptown Girl to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and this song to doo-wop groups like Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, and The Tymes. The other 'singers' in the video were Billy's band members at the time, although they are miming as Billy sang all of the parts himself.

I thought maybe the guy playing the janitor was a former doo wop star. So I Googled him. His name was Nick Stewart. He wasn't a doo wop star, but he was an actor known best for being on the Amos n Andy Show. You may or may not find that interesting. He had a long acting career. One of his last roles was playing a shoe shiner in the movie Silver Streak.

I feel like this was a tribute specifically to the song So Much In Love by the Tymes. And yes, Billy grew up on doowop in his Long Island home town of Oyster Bay. Billy pays homage to doowop and The Four Seasons with Uptown Girl. He is the best at this!

🎼🗝️ Mr. Saeed , you have a way of tapping into my memory lane with your song choices. I have always really liked Billy Joel. So .... my Senior year of Highschool I decided to join the school chorus. Our music teacher chose this song for us to sing. It was really fun with the "Oooohs" and "Aaaaahs" .. and the "Bum - Bah - Bums". Thanks for choosing another great one ! 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🍰🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼

Tim Foust, the bass singer for the acapella group Home Free, used to tell stories between sets in their concerts to give them all a chance to catch their breath. One concert, he ran out of stories. So he decided to dramatically read song lyrics. He started out with "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel, noted how old it was and that it reached 33 on the charts. Then he read the lyrics to a song that was topping the charts at the time of the concert. It was "Whip/Nae Nae" 😂😂😂😂 The contrast was hilarious. Especially Tim reading the lyrics in his serious, deep voice.
