💬 SURPRISE! 😅 I just couldn’t stop working on these! I just worked on it locally from my computer despite not having much space to do so and my new hard drive arrived yesterday. So that’s the good news. And there’s more good news… In case you missed it ( kzbin.infoUgkxJHIv0SizXDbveVZXsScUWPgT5XiyElGt ) my hard drive crashed and I lost access to all of my work, the finished Boston - Foreplay/Long time video and a bunch of other stuff. Just today, the drive’s manufacturer has agreed to perform a data recovery service on it free of charge for me. My data recovery plan expired a year ago, but they are making a one time exception… which really made my day! The only drawback is there’s no guarantee I’ll get anything back and if I do, it could take up to 30 days to get it returned to me. That’s ok. I’ll take what I can get. As far as artwork… I will just do what I did for this video… create new artwork as I need it. I’m really hoping that I get my finished Boston video back and I don’t have to start that one completely over! There is also no “Making of” portion of this video as I didn’t have the space resources to record the process. I was going to make “25 or 6 to 4” by Chicago my next project… but most of the reactions to it are to the live Tanglewood version and the quality of the audio is not that good. I might have to push this one off for a while. So I’m moving on to yet another epic song by yet another epic band! Onto the next! 💜

In 1980 I was 18years old, left my country in NSW Australia to get work at a steel works factory in Newcastle. Stayed at my aunty and uncles house while my cool older surfer dude cousin went on an overseas trip. He had a stereo in the living room so one day I picked out one of his albums (they were warped by the sun) and to my surprise they played perfectly. What I didn't know about was Steely Dan, when I heard them for the first time I was blown away. I quickly bought as many of their albums I could afford and while I'm now 61 years old still love every track by them when I hear it!

The bass (played by Chuck Rainey) ) is mind-blowing. And the use of space in both the music and the mixing/mastering is amazing. Genre? It's a mash-up of rock/jazz/funk/soul, often with a touch of sarcasm and cynicism - both music and lyrics.. Pretty much their own sound. Thanks for the reactions!

Michael McDonald was a studio keyboardist and songwriter, with his soulful voice & keys became a member of Steely Dan (1973-1974) but never recorded his music with them, He then joined the Doobie Brothers (1975-1982, 1987, 2019-present). wrote and sang several hit singles. As for Stelly Dan (Donald Fagen, Walter Becker), they became the industry standard of the highest regard. Becker and Fagen played together studying at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, moved to Los Angeles, gathered a band of musicians, and began recording. Their first, Can't Buy a Thrill (1972), blends elements of rock, jazz, Latin music, R&B, blues, and sophisticated studio production.

Steely Dan was a once in a lifetime experience. There is not been a band like them before or since. I've not seen a band fuse jazz funk and Rock, other than them...so seamless.
