FRIENDLY REMINDER: I am currently reacting to Classic Who as well. PLEASE no spoilers, references, mentions, etc. for anything in Classic Who that I haven't seen yet. (In the case of several comments on this video, vampires.) I always have where I am listed in the description so you can know what I've already seen and what can be discussed in the comments.

I will die on this hill: Rory is the single most bravest companion in the entire history of the show.
@BritanyBinges4 ай бұрын
I'm not sure who I would consider the bravest, but he definitely ended up surprising me.
@TheNovaBridger4 ай бұрын
@@BritanyBinges I just love his attitude towards everything, especially as time goes on & he just expects certain things to happen lol. And especially in this episode, where he stands up to The Doctor and doesn't hold back on his feelings. Because, like you said yourself in the video, it's not The Doctor's intention for companions to do dangerous things to "impress" him, but it doesn't matter about intention when that exact thing happens regardless, and has led to companions being injured or killed in the process..which is obviously what Rory was concerned about.. I think that especially sort of echoes back to the Series 4 finale when Davros taunts The Doctor for fashioning his companions into soldiers (intentionally or not) while he himself abhors violence and never carries a weapon.

Rory, like Donna, really proved himself to be far more than initial appearances -- he is my second favorite companion of New Who, with Donna my favorite, because of what is done with the character arcs.

16:34 Yes - I think the Doctor's uncharateristic outburst was very much deliberate and for Rory's benefit - reinforcing that the relationship was not what he obviously feared.
@arch10174 ай бұрын
Definitely. I saw it as an acknowledgement from the Doctor that Rory may have had a point about people putting themselves in danger to impress him, too. Because he wasn't wrong, really.

Rory calling out the Doctor about the danger he represents is a great moment. You may recall that he’s not the first one to do this, tho; back at the end of Season 4, Davros accuses him of “turning ordinary people into weapons”. And (less directly) in one of the Specials, Ten straight-up says "It's not like I'm an innocent. I've taken lives. And I got worse; I got clever. Manipulated people into taking their own.” That line can be read as “I manipulated/tricked bad people into killing themselves” (which he’s absolutely done), but also as “I got good people to die for me” (which obviously happens all the time).
@IsiahBradley3 ай бұрын
P.S. And of course, love the Cassanova reference, since Ten played him before he was Ten :)

Ah River is the one that writes in the journal. They meet esch other in the wrong order. Imagine two time travellers, the Doctor standing at the 19th Century and River standing in the 51st century. The both jump through time. Time is a circle. The Doctor having the Tardis travels along the circle in an anticlockwise direction landing at random points in time. River travels clockwise along that circle travelling through time and jumps randomly and meets the doctor. This is why they meet in the opposite order.

The vampire myth was explored with the fourth doctor and if I remember correctly, it explains why it exists. This is a case of a myth existing that the aliens took advantage of, in order to hide themselves and their plans.

You'll start to notice how often the female companions disrespect their boyfriends in NuWho. Mickey became a better man after he stopped being Rose's little b*tch.

To be fair, Mickey didn't seem like the greatest boyfriend at the start. But, yeah, the boyfriends do tend to get treated poorly.

@@BritanyBinges Oh, they're from an old Japanese anime cartoon from 1963 all the way up to 2009. A lot of people say that the lion king is a rip-off of it. Note: Might wanna check out the video comparison between Lion King and Kimba here on KZbin

You’re right, vampires and other similar monsters (those thing you would find in horror or supernatural stories)don’t exist here. It’s always aliens, or someone with advanced knowledge or technology, time travelers. Hello 👋🏻.
@joshuajoshua27324 ай бұрын
To be fair you got to remember the Doctor is an alien it's not going to cross his mind that telling Rory his fiance kissed him would cause anguish or a stir. Rory the first main male companion (not counting Mickey, Adam or Captain Jack) since without giving the name of the character or what period since the classic series and one of my favourite companions of the NuWho era. This is not the first time the Doctor has encountered alien vampires infact the Time Lords have a history with vampires. I love the Doctor's authority in this episode because the bit that always annoyed me with this series is the companions never listen to the Doctor or obey him when he's trying get them out of danger because he knows what he's doing they don't.

So about vampires in Doctor Who... Vampires do exist in the original canon, space faring life feeding parasites. That's why the Doctor was so worried about something pretending to be a Vampire, because Vampires caused a lot of problems for the Time Lords.
