In episode 2 of this season, while investigating the orphanage, Amy saw a slot in a door slide open with the face of that eye-patched behind it. She ignores Amy, says "No, I think she's just dreaming" and closes the slot, the slot not existing after that. That means Amy was already replaced at that point, so it happened either while they were scattered between episodes 1&2 or between seasons.

The scene at the beginning where the confused ganger Doctor was coping with past regenerations where he says "Would you like a jellybaby?" was the Fourth Doctor Tom Baker's voice and also where he stands straight and says "Hello I'm the Doctor" was David Tennant's voice. Amy's kidnap happened off-screen somewhere between "A Christmas Carol" and "The Impossible Astronaut".

I missed so, so much the first time I saw this. But after watching it again years later ,with what I now know, There are so many suttle things that pay off later. BRILIANT writing!
@mr.overlord6720Ай бұрын
Jennifer, in retrospect does make sense for her to go mad. Because in the first episode in the very beginning pf the episode we see her blatantly lie about pushing another ganger into the acid. And out of all of the characters she’s the one that lies the most with grievous intent through both episodes or hides important information from the characters from the start.
@RickZarberАй бұрын
Fun fact: Mark Bonnar (the actor playing the dad character) has done a bunch more Doctor Who for Big Finish in the years since, portraying an insane Time Lord villain called The Eleven who has, upon every regeneration, been accumulating the prior incarnations as voices in his head / split personalities who fight for dominance. So Bonnar gets to play 11 characters in 1-it's pretty fun. He's played against (mostly) the 8th Doctor, but also the 6th and 7th, as well as UNIT-Kate Stewart, Osgood, etc. (His debut is in the 16-episode arc Doom Coalition, which is a very solid entry point for any of you out there considering trying out DW audio dramas.)

And at least once three different incarnations of the Master.
@ziggythedrummerАй бұрын
"One day, I shall come back" is a First Doctor line. "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow" is the Third Doctor, "Would you like a jelly-baby?" is the Fourth (in Tom Baker's own distinctive voice) and "Hello, I'm the Doctor" is David Tennant's voice as the Tenth Doctor.

A decent two-parter IMO but _arguably_ only really _needed_ a single episode. And I just realised this but in retrospect, making it Jennifer that's the "villain" fits well with: "You're not superior to people who were cruel to you. You're just a whole bunch of new cruel people. A whole bunch of new cruel people, being cruel to some other people, who'll end up being cruel to you." (which this you hasn't seen yet but future-present you has - timey-wimey :). Making it Cleaves would be a bit obvious IMO (and gives her character nowhere to go - she starts off the "villain") whereas making it Jennifer both gives her an arc and adds a nice "cycle of violence" theme.

"Get back to where?" well those were all memorable quotes from the classic series. I am working off of very, very fuzzy memory here, because I've only watched the old series episodes once, but I believe he meant Gallifrey.

I absolutely agree that it should’ve been one episode, maybe a 60-minute episode. I have never rewatched it in full.
@WiccanRaiАй бұрын
I do think the story should have just been across one episode. The twist that Amy was a ganger was very good. I always thought Amy was switched with the ganger when the Silence took her from the orphanage as they told her she'd been with them several days, but that's so confusing as for Rory and the Doctor she was gone only hours. But then time travel, timey wimey stuff.
@the_dropbear4392Ай бұрын
She saw the woman open the slot before that, so it must have been either between episode 1 and 2 or given the silence tell her in episode 1 to tell the doctor shes pregnant, it must have been between the christmas special and episode 1.

Love this two-parter. I figured out two Jens and the Doctor swap all on my own, but the ending just punched me, like wtf. Here's my mandatory (for this episodes' reactions) recommendation of David Brin's 'Kiln People', which explores the themes of what makes a human a human much deeper and is more creative and fascinating. I mean, if you like this type of moral debate, you should definitely read it.

I know. It makes no sense how they could beam a flesh signal into the TARDIS. Also they were outside the universe in one episode.
@grabtharshammerАй бұрын
The Dr said that was why he was there to understand how the signal was working, which it was still doing until he turned it off inside the Tardis, with the Sonic once he learned the frequencies. Being outside the Universe didn't stop things or even signals getting through, hence the Dr getting "mail" with the little box that took them ouside

Fair episode with the flesh I guess, don't remember it much, fair dynamics. But ah Episode 7 begins its mid story line part and reveals. Then the big break and the remaining episodes.

Why would Miranda Cleaves be the bad guy, she is the boss on that site. Very clever, and a good boss. Least likely to lead a revolution. Whereas, Jennifer Lucas was always damaged, always very emotional, always the most likely to flip into a bad guy.

This was when Doctor Who had finally jumped the pond after almost 50 years of being a BBC show with almost no American eyes. The Tennant era suddenly catapulted it into the states and while it was growing quickly many people were intimidated by starting a show with THAT MUCH baggage and history. You can see how MUCH this changed things just by looking at the budget here vs season 1 with 9 and Rose. This is also why they filmed some stuff in the states - DW tends to always be visiting London - but now the space and time traveler finally got a passport to see more of earth - specifically the US The Amy voice over intro that plays this season was a way of trying to speak to newbies who were jumping in with nothing.

So, let's spend a whole episode, or two, proving that the Flesh gangers are just as human as their originals, or almost so, and it's a terrible thing to treat them as if they're disposable. But Amy is just a Flesh ganger, so let's sonic her into nothingness.
@jennifermorris6848Ай бұрын
So we spent the whole episode proving that flesh people are unique individual people with rights. Then we dissolve Amy2. Does Amy2 not have rights? Couldn’t she come with us to help? It’s been her with us for about 8 months.
@thepandorica1660Ай бұрын
It's because the gangers in this story were living beings. Amy's one was more of a spy database or something
@nocturne8333Ай бұрын
The solar storm animated the Gangers in this episode. Amy’s Ganger was just an avatar for her consciousness, as she’d been taken before The Impossible Astronaut.

This is why he says "given what we know I'll be as humane as possible ". He had to disperse the ganger to save Amy and that was not a tough choice.
@maxdennis223614 күн бұрын
I think given his anger in the next couple of eps. It’s justified, I believe even if the doctor thought Amy’s ganger had her own sentience he would still have done it. Look at the lengths he went to next episode
