I saw this tour live in '86 in Rockford, Illinois. It was my first rock concert. I've been to a couple hundred since then but this one was my favorite. Witnessing Eddie at his peak while I was deep into learning guitar (I was around 14 at the time, but had been playing since I was nine), it was mind-blowing to me! And seeing so many younger people react to this solo and saying, "I wish I could have been there!" Yeah, it was something special. Once in a life time type of thing.

Yes, there is interviews where they talk about this. And Eddie has sat on more than one occasion that he was so drunk. He doesn’t even remember playing that solo. You just watched

you need to watch Eddies Smithsonian Interview... Eruption started out as a warm-up exercise he would do before a show - then they decided to put a 3 minute version on their debut album in '78 - every concert had an "Eruption" intermission, and they were all different and, as Eddie invented more techniques the more Eruption changed, I saw them in '82 & '84 - both incredible shows with incredible energy...wish you hadn't cut this short - on the half you played, he didn't miss a note, even when the pic split and he threw it... RIP

Did you guys walk into a roll of electrical tape? 😂 Just messing with you. I couldn't resist. I'm guessing it's a tribal thing. Anyways. I wish you would have watched the whole video and reacted to it. Telling everyone to go check it out elsewhere when this is the reason we're here to watch it with you. I'll check out another of your reactions and see if it's better. Take care and best of luck with your channel.

Eddie Van Halen, himself, stated in an interview: "I have no recollection of being in New Haven, let alone the show." He was basically black out drunk when he did that solo. And honestly that was not uncommon for the Van Halen brothers, they were notorious boozers.

I enjoyed the comments about this video. This video always put a smile on my face. Eddie Van Halen was one of the cleanest guitar players I have ever heard. He was of Dutch and Indonesian heritage. When his family came to America Alex and Eddie could not speak English and were picked on in school by white kids so most of their friends were black. Eddie Van Halen put in many hours during his life to make his guitar playing something very special and Alex did the same with the drums. There is a video on youtube with Jan Van Halen Eddie and Alex's father. They came from a musical family and put many hours in the hone their craft. Amazing Van Halens !!!!
