THE ROOP represent Lithuania in Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with their song ON FIRE: “This year’s song ON FIRE is about something I carried within and observed around myself. It’s about writing yourself off too quickly. This phenomenon is called ageism. We are underestimating ourselves and others too often by applying age limit rules. We think we are useless or uninteresting because our ‘expiration date’ already hit” - said band’s leader Vaidotas Valiukevičius. While talking to one music producer, Vaidotas learned that rather often people in their early twenties come to producers but declare feeling too old to achieve something. The youth cult in Lithuania is widely spread out in the consciousness of individuals. “With this song we wish to send people confidence and good vibes. We are all capable of being who we want, when we want, and our age does not matter!” - declares THE ROOP band. “We are being observed by those around us as if through a magnifying glass, we search for ourselves in reflections of other people, in the public opinion, in gazes of strangers, and most frequently the image is incomplete, crooked. But when you believe in yourself with a spark, reflections become nothing but a game.” - director Indrė describes the idea of the video. A lot of people are expecting this to win. After seeing the whole song it's much better than I thought just seeing clips. It's very catchy, he has a very soothing voice, and the staging is interesting, but there's not really any vocal range throughout the entire song. I have a feeling it will do well, but I hope it doesn't finish in front of a lot of other songs that deserve to be close to the top.

regarding the magnifying glasses - its art. and you have to interpret it. for example, i havent heard about it, but interpret magnifying glasses this way: nosy judging people trying to find something why he is not sufficient, young enough, etc. for doing what he wants to do. thats what the society does! especially the closest surroundings, family haha! its true! everyone experiences that. well i see it that way, maybe because i heard him explaining in lithuanian - he is considered too old in the music industry. nowadays, he said, even a 20-year-old comes enthusiastic to do music, and they tell them they are too old.
