Twas only Chen who wrote the song in Korean and Chanyeol did his own rap. Lay wrote the Chinese version of this song. I don't know if Tao was able to help since he talked about writing Chinese version together with Tao and Tao agreed to it.

Promise is a song written by EXO themselves for exols(their fans). They promised to stick together forever. Saying how thankful they are for staying with them for all these years especially during their dark years(members left and crazy fans and scandals) back in 2013-2014. It’s very satisfying to see you like it as it’s EXO’s promise to EXO-L. “We are one” was the motto and after three members left fans felt heartbroken. Boys were sorry themselves seeing their members left but also felt terribly sorry for the fans. This is the promise they’ve been keeping since that day; they work so hard for us. They gave us 27 new songs just last year with MVs, choreographies, movies, dramas, concerts, etc. so, thank you for loving the song; it means a lot.

It has another title which is “EXO 2014”, year 2014 for exo and exols is very hard, members leaving, dating scandals and many more, thats the reason exo wrote this song for us because they want to apologize because of what happened and wants to promise us that they would protect us and our smiles, thanking us for loving them, for waiting for them to perform, for being with them in their birthdays and such. Great reactions! A lot of people that get into Exo for the first time are drawn in by flash of the lead singles. But, people that love Exo know that the other releases are what get you. The main singles introduce the color or concept of an album for the comebacks. Their best songs are the non singles where you really hear the talent, that's why they usually will feature them in the live concerts. That's said with no minimizing the lead singles because of course they slay as well and really get people excited for the new releases. Their winter albums are stellar as well and contain tracks that Exo fans keep on repeat all year round!
