What I love about Tim Follin is how well he captures articulation. You can tell that he's the type of musician that doesn't just listen to what musicians play, but also HOW they play it. It's really evident in tracks like the mission briefing one and it really helps the groove come to life.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. TIme Trax has such a great OST and I love to see people appreciating Tim Follin's work - his composiitions were fun and groovy, while technically, he was in a class of his own. Glad that you enjoyed it - nice to have some genuine, non-pretentious musical appreciation on YT.

Did you know that this game used an advanced sound chip by Dean Belfield, made specifically for Follin?

Not chip, but sound driver - subprogram for composers that in this case gives you more controls over FM synthesis parameters. I think there’s a lot of automation of those in this particular soundtrack, since there’s no other way to make those filtered sections of pad work but changing the parameters of the FM synthesizer itself. (btw, ym2612 chip that was one of two/three sound chips on the genesis is essentially a 6-channel FM synthesizer)
