The problem with this KZbin video of the song is people who are watching it get distracted reading all of the text and they miss what is being sung. This is considered by most to be the greatest country song of all time.

I agree. you can't listen to a song, for the first time, while reading someone's biography. You hear the song, but you can't listen to it.

This song was voted the greatest country song ever written. He stopped loving her today, because he died.

It went over their heads, sadly. Some songs you just have to pay attention to, and this is one. I hope they give it another listen without the distractions. RIP George.

This has long been regarded as the quintessential country song and some say the best country song of all-time. You should listen again and hear the story that is being told as well.

I think you guys completely missd the song lyrics. It tells a great story.

Absolutely correct. I wonder if either of them, could tell us what the song was about, right after it was over.

As with many CW songs, you have to listen to and digest each word…. Your English teachers always taught you to start each essay or paragraph with your thesis or topic sentence. This song did exactly that: “He said he’d love her ‘til he died.” In the future, I would suggest that you don’t react to a video with text. Almost everyone gets distracted reading the text and don’t really listen to the lyrics. Consequently, they completely miss the message of the song.

I still get shivers listening to this song. I also think you missed the point but I love that you give respect even when you don't love a song. Have you done Ode to Billy Joe by Bobby Jo Gentry? Country gold.

I'm just baffled by how many reactors didn't get what this song was about. Though calling it okay is just as insulting considering how high it charted.

Im not saying this song is shit, but seriously how many songs that get high on the charts are shit?
@Doug_M2 жыл бұрын
@@JustinPanariello That would depend on the era we are talking about. Post 2000's then yes there is tons of trash on the charts...but this song is from the golden era of country.

Swing & miss!!! LOL....I was so hoping you 2 would get the meaning of the song, and understand what was happening. Once you comprehend whats going on, the song will hit differently....Long story short, the guy had to die to get over his heartbreak, and thats what happened. 1st time I saw him smile in years,.....all dressed up to go away,...... they placed a wreath on his door....soon they'll carry him away.....How did it not click???
@JustinPanariello2 жыл бұрын
that's how much I don't listen/pay attention to lyrics. I hear the music first... melody/harmony etc. I don't know if you have seen any of my other reaction videos, but it's a discussion that's been brought up before. Some people must be lyrics first, others music.
@foxchasejrt12 жыл бұрын
@@JustinPanariello Have you considered looking over the lyrics first on your own, then doing a first time listen? Perhaps that could give you a fuller comprehension of the song and allow to not miss any of the vocal or musical? When I watch reactors listen to Rush 2112, I always wish they had read the lyrics first. If they read along with the video - they'll miss the musical intricacies. Not reading the lyrics first - they usually have no idea what each part is about. Just my 2 cents 😊

A little data dump. George did record Tennessee Whiskey, but he wasn't 1st or even meant to be 1st to do it. The song's writer had written a number of hits for George Strait, and when he wrote Tenn Whiskey he had Strait in mind. He played it for him and Strait said it was great and would be a hit, but not for him. He just didn't feel it was right for him. It was 1st recorded by David Allen Coe, and not much happened with it. Then Jones recorded it and had some success with it. As for the song in this video, because of a couple things that have kind of stopped being done or said (except in some smaller mostly southern towns) people miss the point of this song. The lyrics tell us he was "all dressed up to go away" and "they placed a wreath upon his door". They used to do that when the person who lived there died. It starts with him saying he'd love her til he died. He did! That's why he stopped loving her. All dressed up to go away doesn't mean he's moving lol, he is going away away.

For better or worse, this is Jones’s signature song. He did many sad songs “A good year for the roses” (solo version is best) and some fun songs like “The King is Gone.”

You guys missed everything about the song, im also a metalhead but this song has so much meaning. He’s thinking about a past gf he had that was the one and he let it slide away and now that he has died he stopped loving her. Look at whiskey lullaby by brad paisley and allison kraus as well. Maybe it’ll get the feels going on.

I think had you two not been distracted by the text that was flashing across the screen, you might have put the attention more into the song/lyrics. this was the song of the year in 1980... maybe you two could try it again on your own time. another GREAT country artist is(was) Vern Gosdin..................try 'the garden' or, maybe ....'if you're gonna do me wrong...do it right'
