Among the very best of the acapella groups. My own faves. They never betray a song: they may reinterpret, but they always respect the soul of what that song IS. They use their voices to show off the songs, not the songs to show off their vocal chops. Not that they can help showing off their chops: they've got talent stacked so deep it's falling off the shelf and cluttering up the aisles. Yes, Tom. That's what he *does.* The harmonica effect (in this particular cover) is done by Adam Rupp, one of the original founding members of the band. He's their beatboxer. He's won the World Beatbox title at least twice. Maybe more since I last checked. But all the fellas have some non-traditional skills, and some basic beatbox, and they help the group out by picking up what they can so that Adam can use his own ranking skills where they are most needed, on the most striking or difficult percussion. Rob their anchor tenor, for example, is a professional grade whistler. Adam Chance (usually just known as "Chance" to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp), does mouth-harp on at least part of this recording. Tim Foust, (5 octave range! All strong and clear and well-supported!!!!) can make like a bass guitar when it suits the song. (For that check out American Pie, featuring the original composer/performer, Don McLean) Austin, their high tenor, who brings the bats in with his upper notes, also yodels. Not a lot. Just when it helps sell a song. But...Yeah. They generally do pure acapella, with no instrumental accompaniment beyond the stomp of a foot or the clap of a hand. Occasionally they go a step further with "found instruments," like using a cup or pounding the back of a guitar. When they are working solo, or when they've invited guest performers to work with them they are less rigid...the purest aca they do is as "Home Free." They do pretty nearly any genre that allows for tight harmonies and gorgeous, lush voices. Classic church choral (How Great Thou Art), pop-rock (9 to 5), old rock classics (When a Man Love a Woman), C&W (Folsom Prison Blues, The Gambler, Ring of Fire), R&B (End of the Road), medleys of all sorts--you name it, they do it. And they honor those who came before them: they've done team ups with Kenny Rogers, the Oakridge Boys, and Don McLean, among others. They're good collaborators. They show respect. The fans here (Home Fries) will give you dozens of titles to try. Very few will disappoint you: talent coupled with real love and respect for the music go a long way. Have fun--and be warned, it is hard NOT to have fun. They're one of the very few groups who can do humorous pastiche AND dead-sober funeral music and never betray the music for a second.

Tim Foust, the bass singer, doesn't even begin to show his abilities on this song. His voice has actually blown speakers at live shows. An average bass sings to E2, Tim can reach B0; an entire octave and a half lower and only two notes above the lowest note on a piano.
@chrisd70473 жыл бұрын
Just to throw this out there: the big basses going now (Tim, Geoff, and Avi), regularly flirt with notes that are damn near out of the range of human hearing. On the low end humans can hear down to 20Hz, sometimes as low as 16Hz. An E0 is 20.6Hz. That B0 you mentioned is 30.8Hz. That's nuggin' futz.

@@chrisd7047, I am a bass singer and my choir chest voice extends down to around A1. Off-mic, I will match any of them. On-mic and with other techniques, I am not even going to try. @@johndeeregreen4592 Heh. Color me jealous. On my best day I can get an Eb2 in chest. A good day is an F2. G2 is the bottom of my every-day range, and I can't do sub at all (residual vocal cord paralysis). Pretty standard baritone range. And I agree. If they can get it out with any kind of volume behind it and it sounds decent, it counts.

Chance is actually a baritone, but Tim is helping him learn how to sing the deeper bass notes, and it seems that Chance is a quick study because he can now sing deeper than he ever sang before. That is a great help for the whole group as it allows Tim to take the lead more often.

I recommend watching "Misty Mountains" with Peter Hollens featuring Tim Foust, "Folsom Prison Blues" (Tim's cut his hair by this time), Ring of Fire featuring Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix, Sea Shanty Medley and The Sing Off Season 4 (the season Home Free won). I forget which concert it was, but Tim blew out a speaker with his low note. Home Free always has fun at their concerts and they have numerous music videos that shows their goofy side. Adam Rupp is the beatboxer and is phenomenal when it comes to mimicking all instruments and sound effects but knocks it out of the ball park when it comes to drum set sounds. Rob Lundquist was the other tenor (in overalls and sporting an awesome beard). He too is amazing! Lastly, but not least, is Adam Chance who is the baritone of the group. Together, these five have some of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard. I'd like to suggest several of their covers for your Reaction... of course Ring of Fire needs to be one of the first; and if you're familiar with Pentatonix, you'll be happy to see that Avi Kaplan is also a part of the performance. Another great cover is When A Man Loves A Woman (as I suggested earlier). American Pie (with Don McLean) should also be near the top of your Reaction list. Home Free is: Earlier Years Chris Rupp (usually wearing a Cowboy Hat & always smiling) and Adam Rupp, the Beatboxer founded the Group. Chris went Solo in 2016 with which he is doing Very Well! Adam Chance who goes by Chance was brought in to replace Chris! Chance is the Baritone that has a 4 Octave Range. He can replace Tim, the Group's Bassist when needed as Chance was the Bassist in his previous Group before Home Free. Back to Adam Rupp, he's the incredibly talented Beatboxer and can sing well too! His Beatboxing is above and beyond any other Beatboxer that I have seen! He's also won several Beatboxing Championships to boot!😁😁 Now to Tim, the Group's Bassist has a 5 Octave Range so he can Lead the Group as a Bassist or a Tenor or something in between! He's Phenomenal and he's also taught some other Bassists from other Acapella Group's to be able to do certain things that allow them to get Lower and hit Notes they weren't able to before now. The Bearded Singer is the Group's Tenor and he is Awesome! Such a Creamy Tone and at times his Range is incredible too! To end the Group's Members is Austin the Group's High Tenor. This man is unbelievable! He can hit the highest of the highest of notes and he still can do Low Notes almost Baritone standards! Now hopefully you can get caught up with the Group's Members!

Voctave. Acapella brilliance. If you like Pentatonix and Home Free, you'll love Voctave out of Orlando.

Voctave, 11 person strong, can create a wall of sound that rivals choirs 5 times their size or full-on orchestras. They, not to long ago, invited 1000 of their patreon friends to participate in a virtual choir cover of "You will be found" that is nothing short of stunning.

Home Free is amazing - You should really listen to their songs “Brothers in Arms,” “Mayday,” “One Man Band” “Butts Remix,” "When a Man Loves a Woman," “Hillbilly Bone,” and “Elvira” for some real fun! Thanks for the reaction video, as a Home Fry myself I am always glad to see someone finding them for the first time!

They were in different seasons, both winning that year (Home Free won the last Sing Off).

Check out their cover of Ring of Fire w/Avi Kaplan. They have a LOT of videos that are NOT country. Lead tenor: Austin Brown Other tenor: Rob Lundquist Baritone: Adam Chance (goes by Chance as to not be confused with beatboxer Adam Rupp) Beatboxer: Adam Rupp (founding member) Bass: Tim Foust (has a 6 octave range). If you want a full bass with Tim, check out his video Misty Mountains. He hits a note in that one that is referred to as Dragon's breath. 😉

Since you already gotten a taste of Pentatonix and Home Free I would recommend Voiceplay also. "Voiceplay - Oogie Boogie Song" - is nice to hear the range of their bass singer Geoff "Voiceplay - Carry on my wayward son" - beautiful song Their bass singer does some solo stuff as well, like "Geoff Castellucci - Sixteen Tons" Have fun in the rabbit hole of talented voices!

so lead vocal is austin brown, second vocal is rob lundquist, bass is tim faust, beatboxer is adam rupp and baritone is adam chance. watch misty mountains by peter hollands ft. tim faust to see how low tim can go. they aren't strickly country, the do covers of other songs. end of the road, mayday, ring of fire, still haven't found what i'm looking for and when a man loves a woman are all great songs they do

There are 3 a cappella groups out today that raise the bar to astronomical heights. Each has their own unique style and to compare them to each other would be like comparing apples and ostriches. Try for Home Free "End of the Road" Boyz II Men and "May Day" by Cam, for Voice Play "My Mother Told Me" and "True Colors" . Pentatonix you already know about. but these songs I mentioned will give you a small idea of the breadth of the genres that all of these groups have, but they all add their own special interpretation to. Each is incomparably excelent in their own right. Loved your reaction. echos what I felt when I started down the a cappella rabbit hole. Surprisingly delicious!

Tim is the bass, one of the best. Check out their version of How Grea Thou Art and American Pie) If you like bassists, check out Voice Play (their Little Mermaid Medley and Oogie Boogies Song are 2 of theirs), Tomi P (Hellfire), Peter Hollens (Misty Mountains), Matt took over for Avi when he had to leave Pentatonix (Amazing Grace and Daft Punk Medley).. Voice Play just released Man In The Mirror the other day.
