I've watched this video dozens of times, but this was the first time since Livvy's passing and John's cancer news. Knowing that they'll never perform again, but so grateful that THIS performance exists, the tears literally would not stop, and I was drawn into the song like never before. Thank you. What a wonderful analysis of this beautiful ballad. I totally enjoyed it. This performance was from a concert called The Main Event, with John, Olivia and Anthony Warlow. They moved in an out of singles, duets and trios throughout the show. To go to another end of John's spectrum, I second the suggestion for Granada with Anthony Warlow, an Aussie operatic/musical theatre icon. They bring a comedic bent to the performance, yet still stun with their vocal ability.

Farnsey's 50th wedding anniversary to Jill is coming up I think. If you want to outdo your friend have a look at Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. John played Jesus in an Australian production and his range and power is spine-chilling. He does wonderful jazz and musical theatre with Anthony Warlow and Olivia in the main event. There is no genre that he can't sing and leave you gaping. The MSO string section has much fun in Black Dog too. He's always better live because he really connects with people.

My wife and I were at this concert and the song always brings me to tears every time I hear it as it brings back memories of a close cousin who passed away in 1999. The song was released in 1980 and I had the pleasure of performing it as a duet in some concerts with my cousin in the early to mid 1990's. I will admit we were not as good at John and Olivia but we still got a standing ovation from the audiences.

This might be repeated and I am sorry for that but haven't had time to skim through comments beforehand. Liv and John have a massive history together. They both were born in 1948 and 1949 respectively in the UK and came out as children to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. In the 1960's before winning a trip to England Liv and her friend were on Melbourne TV a few times singing, and of course so was John (separately). John made a name for himself with the song SADIE THE CLEANING LADY (on youtube) 1967. He was 18 at the time. As time went on he became the King of Pop and was fairly famous in Australia and of course Liv made an international name for herself but they remained friends working together in Australia from time to time. That song you put on was part of a 2 hour concert called THE MAIN EVENT that also included Anthony Warlow (Australia's phantom from PHANTOM OF THE OPERA). BTW all three have had cancer. Poor John went in for throat surgery a few days after Liv's death (12 hours) and had part of his jaw removed for cancer. Anthony has had cancer before and is still around too. The other great combo of Liv and John was at the 2000 Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympics when they sang together DARE TO DREAM. All links below. I recommend you watch Burn For You which he wrote for his wife. He hated being away from her when on tour and chose to not tour overseas. Lucky for us in Australia because we got to see more of him but sad for the rest of the world. He and Olivia were also great supporters of charities in Australia. Olivia raised over 100 million dollars to build a wellness hospital and research centre in her hometown of Melbourne to treat and support cancer patients. A true legend and hero sadly lost too soon. Watch Granada with Farnsey and Anthony Warlow you will see John sing opera. He has so much power that he needs to hold the microphone further away as the power notes are coming up. He is such a professional. I think if he was trained he could have easily been a famous opera tenor. Always watch live. He lights up in front of an audience Amazing grace and angels are to magic videos My favourite is Help the old Beatles song done with the Melbourne symphony orchestra. @@OutOnThatLine I’ve just watched a terrific concert on KZbin of John with his fantastic musicians. He ad-libbed singing opera in German near the end and was cracking jokes all the way through the entire concert. The title is “John Farnham - Man of the Moment - Concert Doco”. It was made in 2014. I think you’ll love it as he and his band have now had time to bring some new and fresh ideas to his songs. The brass section is amazing, especially Steve Williams on harmonica, saxophone and clarinet. So are Brett and Stuart, his guitar soloists. Sadly, Stuart passed from lung cancer about two years ago. The documentary also introduces most of the musicians between songs and they’re lovely people, just like John. I’m not recommending this as a reaction, unless a couple of the songs really resonate with you like this duet of John with Olivia. It’s a proper concert with excellent visuals and sound quality. You even get to see them taking bows at the end. Happy viewing of all the John Farnham and friends’ performances! Robyn F.

These two have toured together & done at least one album together too. John & Olivia both had deep lifelong friendships with many people in their sphere. They wouldn't have friendships or relationships any other way. It's never just for the cameras or the performance. They truly deeply care in all that they do & all that they love. Both simple, normal people who chose to live out on big, huge properties amongst nature, their animals & for John & his wife, their horses. You would never have seen them in typical celebrity mansions, head to toe in Gucci & Versace. There is nothing Hollywood about them. For the most part that's the typical Aussie way. How they lived before they were famous v's how they lived thereafter never changed. The younger generation will likely now be different but hopefully they won't forget where they came from & their true roots.

New subscriber here / I just tripped over your beautiful reaction to our Farnsey. I've been to 17 concerts, and it's always a toss up for me which concert is my favourite, because I can't separate this concert (The Main Event) and with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - both were performances that you knew at the time, would go down in history as Iconic and legendary, which they both are. John Farnham is so much more than a singer, he is one of the most compassionate, kind, humble and caring human beings you'll ever come across. He is the best of what us Aussies are, and strive to be. I'm 57, so have had Farnsey in my life through every decade, went to see John with my grandmother and aunties, and now my own sons and their kids know all his music as well, because we have it playing at every family gathering lol. Yeah, we're Farnsey / Barnsey and Diesel fans in this family....Thank you so much for such a lovely and respectful reaction. Hugs and peace from Western Australia 🤗☮

Through the years they have come together for charity concerts whenever we needed them. They are two very nice and talented people, they are loved. John has been married to Jilly since they were young and he still calls her the bride. They were friends for 55 years. They DID love each other, but just as close friends as far as I know. I do know the last phone call Livvie took before she died was from John.

They never had a history romantically. John has been married forever & a day to his wife Jill (never was that player or lived that rockstar life) Same for Olivia. But they certainly had a lifelong friendship of which we can all see how close. But not in a sleezy way. That kiss would have been done with absolute trust & for the moment. John gives it all in every performance rock, blues, opera, ballads, anything. He could sing the phone book & it would be just as captivating. People would pay to see him in live in anything. He even chose to do one of his last tours of Australia not just in Arena's in major cities. He travelled to outback cities, places no one knows & gave the whole country a chance to see him, enjoy him live before he semi-retired. My memory could be wrong but I think they even all travelled by train. He'd walk down the street & talk & joke with everyone just like any other normal bloke would. He has never put a foot wrong in any ones eyes. Sounds nuts to say so much about one artist but it's all true. You don't have to be a hardcore fan for every Australian to agree with that. Funnily enough as much as I loved John Farnham growing up I never REALLY appreciated all that he was until now. I guess we all took him for granted & thought musicians were all like him. We have it too good in Australia & are spoilt with an incredible music industry. I think it's why these Reaction videos have gotten so popular in Australia now. I think we're all experiencing the same thing. And, we've rarely had to share our best artists with the world because many of them had no desire to chase international success. They're not into a celebrity lifestyle, not after the fame. It's all about the music & the fans here. Most are all dedicated to their families & have no desire to travel overseas & spend long spurts away from them. A few like Inxs, Savage Garden, Kylie Minogue etc became more international acclaimed but that was all at a massive price for the most part for them. Savage Garden broke up not long after their breakthrough success & Michael Hutchence would likely still be alive today if it wasn't for the toll it all took on his life in the end. Any great Australian artists that you will be discovering all must be enjoyed (where possible) with live performances. Otherwise you won't do any of them justice. They don't need, nor desire autotune & tricks. Miming was never something here, even in live shows back in the 80's. John Farnham wouldn't agree to a performance if he couldn't do live. Loving everything you are picking up by every performance about these artists. Especially since these guys are all new to you & you've no details on them to go by. Your spot on.

I’m trolling KZbin looking at John farnham videos. Great reaction video. Keep ‘em coming! Subscribed 👍 Ps. You mention the musical theatre side of John. He played Jesus in the Australian cast of ‘Jesus Christ superstar”. As you can imagine, he nailed it. Maybe check out a vid from that

From the same concert, With Anthony Warlow, Opera/theatre singer and cancer beater, doing "Grenada." Look up Hey, hey it's Saturday (show) forthe cast ensemble for Jesus Christ Superstar stage play musical... Farnsey played JC... they did "Everything's alright" on the show, he also did "Gethsemane" separate recording. Believe it or not Farnsey was not a trained voice, he did do a lot of rehearsing between performances. Concerts were a welcome fun time for him and his loyal accompanists. He tried the US at one time, the execs couldn't fit him in only one genre, wanted him to change to suit them, he missed his family so they and the US missed out.

Yep, react to Farnsey and us Aussies will come! Good job on this. They were/are still married to others. They were close friends. If you want Farnham in musical theatre - he played JC in Jesus Christ Superstar (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWbaoICQqaifnqs), and does tries some operatic tom-foolery with Anthony Warlow (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWfYqXmBoqiLeJo). FYI - Warlow played the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera in Australia.
