The greatest comeback in NFL history, the one remembered as "The Comeback," was the Buffalo Bills coming back from a 35-3 deficit to beat the Houston Oilers in the 1992-93 playoffs. In terms of pure points, the Minnesota Vikings came back down 33-0 against the Indianapolis Colts earlier this season. 28-3 is more the greatest choke instead of the greatest comeback.

Mert, we all knew at the time of this game that Brady was a special, and highly successful player. This one helped his legacy as it was his fifth ring, and how he orchestrated that offense for the last quarter and a half. I think it’s been lost in time, but the Edelman catch in the 4th quarter is one of the greatest catches in nfl history. This game was the first Super Bowl to go to overtime. Lastly, I think you should react to Super Bowl 49 highlights (Patriots vs Seahawks)

How did I feel as a New England fan watching this game? Mostly I felt bewildered. It took so many miracles in a row, there was a thousand times it could have gone wrong but play after play after play the Pats came through with amazing effort. Still, to this day, it feels like a dream. I've rewatched highlights of many Super Bowls on many occasions, but this is the only Super Bowl I've ever watched start-to-finish (every single play) twice. I sat through it all again the day after just to be sure it really happened. There's so much history to why this comeback was amazing, we'd have to unpack several years of Patriots history to cover it all. I've watched thousands of athletic contests across a dozen or more sports in my life and this was easily the least likely outcome of any game I've ever seen.

After the first half ended I felt gutted. My only thought was to just score in garbage time to make it look less lopsided. Once Hightower stripped sacked I thought “this makes it interesting” but still thought we’d come up short. Once the Edelman catch happened, that’s when I realized that “oh my god, we might pull this off” From the moment they tied the game through the game winning TD in overtime. I was speechless the entire time. It was an amazing thing. By far one of the two greatest games I’ve ever seen. The only other game that comes close is the game against Seattle two years prior.

Brady was drafted in round 6, got his first start in 2001 when his team's starting QB got seriously injured, internal bleeding + collapsed lung and concussion. This all happened in week 2 of the season. He ended up taking the team to the super bowl and winning that year, and even won the super bowl MVP award. He has dominated ever since :)

Tom Brady was already well established in his career by the time he won this Super Bowl. This was his SEVENTH Super Bowl Appearance. His only losses in the Super Bowl at this time in his career was against my Beloved New York Giants led by Eli Manning in 2007 & 2011. Brady has been to TEN Super Bowls so far having won a total of 7 (his 3rd loss was to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017). He is the Greatest NFL QB of all time. There is no debate on this issue by all NFL fans of every team.

Tom Brady runs are so rare. He has a career 1,123 rushing yards and 2 TDs. That’s an average of 51 yards per season. He was known for being the slow field general that didn’t have a cannon, but could put a throw on a dime on any pass within 15 yards.

Not going to lie or sugarcoat: As a Patriots fan I had completely given up hope after the Falcons came out after halftime, drove down the field with ease, and scored that touchdown to make the game 28-3. Went outside to smoke a cigar and chug some more beers with a few buddies to get our minds off of what we were witnessing and hopefully ease some of the pain. Came back inside halfway through the 4th quarter to find out the Patriots had already scored 2 touchdowns and were on their way to a historic comeback. I was overthrown with emotion, I cried at the end of the game. I get chills just thinking about that night. Feb. 5, 2017, a DIE HARD PATRIOT'S fan was born.

as an Atlanta resident, but not having grown up here, Atlanta sports in general has had a dismal history. a lot of my Falcons friends actually were nervous and called the choke ahead of time. only until recently has Atlanta regularly experienced sports glory with the Braves winning the World Series in '21 for baseball, and UGA winning back to back Championships '21 & '22. Atlanta sports has for the most part experienced heartbreak over the decades, of mocked as one of the worst sports cities alongside Cleveland and Detroit for NFL.

The swing in energy in the crowd was absolutely electric. Unforgettable experience. You asked 3 questions during the video (I loved it, btw.). 1. How did I feel when the Patriots were down 21-3? I wasn't worried at all. Brady had come back so many times I felt he could do it again. When it was 28-3 I will admit to being nervous and had a little doubt about the possibility of a Patriots win (just a little doubt!). 2. Was this the game that made Brady a legend? Not at all. He was already a 4 time Super Bowl champion. He basically had two Hall Of Fame worthy sections in his career. The first 10 years (when he won 3 SB's), and the second 10 years (when he won 3 more). Either decade would have been enough to put him among the all time greats. Then he won #7 with a different team. Doing it as he did, there is no doubt about him being the greatest QB of all time. 3. How did I feel when overtime started? Once the Patriots won the toss and would get the ball, it was over in my mind. They could not lose at that point. Great video. Thank you. :-)

also, for some context you asked for: brady had already been a star for 15 years at this point and won multiple superbowls - the patriots under Belichick (widely considered the greatest coach ever) with tom brady were all but unbeatable, and most of the public wanted the falcons to win simply to shake things up - it looked like they were going to do it, too, but then this happened - it was at this point that people wondered if brady really WAS unbeatable probably the pinnacle of his career, but you could argue other points (like when he left the patriots and won a superbowl the very next year, in his 40s, with tampa bay, something that should be impossible but is true...)

For me this probably was the defining moment of Brady's career. He of course accomplished a lot more, and he was already a top 5, if not GOAT, QB at this point. He had won 4 SB, but lost 2, so they continually docked him for those 2 losses since the GOAT at the time was 4-0 in SBs. Well this was his 5th ring, was the greatest comeback in SB history, and basically NFL history. It basically cemented him as the GOAT. It was his 5th ring in probably the most defining game of any player's career. It was a magical game. It wasnt very good for 3 quarters, but the last part of the game was just unbelievable and the best SB Ive ever watched.

Brady had the honor of being drafted in the 6th round of the NFL draft, which is the penultimate round. 198 players were drafted before him. He went on to become the greatest player in NFL history. Very clearly people doubted him if he was selected so late. He proved them all wrong, 7 times over,

They have not recovered since this loss. You can literally just say 28 to 3 and everyone knows the game you're talking about. This was also the game that removed any debate about the GOAT NFL player. The Falcons QB, Matt Ryan, also managed to blow a 33-0 lead this season while playing for the Indianapolis Colts against the Minnesota Vikings, so he has earned a reputation for blowing large leads.

Brady has been considered a top 5 quarterback since 2007-08 when they went 16-0 through the season and almost had the second perfect season ever but Eli Manning had a crazy drive with david tyree having a top 5 catch in a super bowl ever to keep the drive alive and manningham getting the td. He had a full 10 year hiatus of winning the super bowl when he has literally won 7. He won 3 within 6 years at the beginning of his career and another 3 after at the patriots 10 years later. and credit was mostly given to his coach for the first three. After that and tom winning a super bowl 2/3 years ago with another team makes him downright the greatest of all time. This is the last super bowl he won with the Patriots and he is considered the most clutch quarterback as well as greatest the man doesn’t blink. He is a freak of a mind like michael jordan or kobe

2:25 No, Brady is not known for his ability to run. He is, in fact, not much speedier than the average man on the street, much less an NFL player. He's not even really known for having a particularly strong throwing arm, or for being uncannily accurate (although, to be fair, his arm strength and accuracy are far better than adequate). Brady simply understands the game like a chess master, and doesn't understand what it means to feel pressure. There is no real parallel to association football - maybe an exceptionally savvy defensive center midfielder, but even that comparison isn't quite right. No single thing that he does is impressive. But, when he takes possession late in the game, there is a palpable sense of inevitability. Everyone in the stadium knows that he's going to do what is necessary to win. Incredible quality, if you think about it.

There's this old memory trick where you show someone a box full of coins for a few seconds, close the lid, and then ask them to reconstruct how the coins were laid out in the box: which coins are laying where, whether they are heads or tails, what year they are, etc. purely from memory. Brady can do the football equivalent: in just a few seconds before the pass rush gets to him, he can identify where everyone is on the field, what leverage they have, where they're going, and obviously who's open.

This is one of several pinnacles of Brady's career. He'd already won 5 super bowls before this; this was his sixth, all with the patriots, tying the NFL record for a *franchise*. He has since personally added a seventh with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, meaning he has won more super bowls in his career than *ANY NFL TEAM* has won in the history of the super bowl. It's not like all the luck has gone his way either; he's been beaten by some incredible plays, too. Most notably, in 2007, the Patriots won every game in the regular season, and strolled into the super bowl undefeated... only to be beaten by "The Helmet Catch": a receiver for the other team caught the ball by pinning it with one hand against his helmet. A receiver, by the way, who was so otherwise unremarkable that he never caught another NFL pass and was out of the league within a year.

This is only the greatest comeback in the Superbowl. The greatest come back of all times in the NFL is the 2022 Vikings vs Colts. It broke the previous record from 30 years ago.

I still say Atlanta's QB's arm was moving forward, so it should have been an incomplete pass not a fumble. changed the game

I’ve been a huge Pats fan my whole life and I was almost about ready to turn this game off cause it was so bad, however my friend had said the games over and bet me 100$ NE would lose, only reason I kept watching, but glad I did cause it was one of the most epic comebacks ever

Honestly, the chances to come back from 28-3 are so low, nobody really considered it. I'd say at that point you're chances are like .5 percent maybe. I was honestly just shocked. In utter disbelief. Edit: especially considering how good Atlanta's D had been up to that point, including a Pick 6 on Brady.

Brady was already great and arguably the greatest, but there were plenty like me who were still calling Montana the greatest. This was the game that stopped the argument. Brady is the best to ever do it.

No, this isn’t the game that made Brady a legend. This is the game that reminded everyone who Tom Brady was. He had already won 3 Super Bowls going into this game.

I followed Belichick and liked Brady immediately i was watching with a lot or Ravens fans , they were trying not to dog me 😂at that point all i wanted to do was, at least lets make it respectable , when Hightower got the strip sack , I knew it was possible and then winning the coin toss , i knew it was over.

Brady was already considered the goat by the time this game came around. Though I'd argue he is the best winner ever in the sport but their have been better qbs who just didn't get put into the golden situation Brady was put into. His coach, Bill Belicheck, is the greatest coach ever and the 2 combined were just unfair

Tom brady did this every game he played the goat and the most clutch player of my lifetime with Tom brady on your team jus keep the ball game close preferably within 10 points and in the 4th quarter put the ball in Tom brady's hand and he'll take you places

Football is literately a chess match but with multiple 200 lb men. It's fun to watch but those men in the trenches are fucking insane at what they do. I can throw a decent football. No way could I do that while a 200l b BEAST who's is bent on taking me to the ground under any means necessary within the rules make a good throw. Then I have to worry if its caught or not. I want to get into soccer. it seems really really fun.
