I'm glad you're mentioning and praising Emppu's solo here, because that to me is the best part of this song. It's an overall good song, but this solo just ties it all together and really draws me in.

What a wondeful analysis yet again!! Tuomas doesn't just write songs, his lyrics are like short stories and his music is the soundtrack 💗 and he always writes about what moves him! I know some people say Tarja is a diva etc but I think whenever she shares the stage with another vocalist you can see how graceful she actually is, giving space to the other singer and never trying to.. maybe not outshine them necessarily, but you can tell she doesn't need to shine all the time and I appreciate that so much about her! I do love hearing your thoughts about Nightwish and especially Tarja so so much, please keep going 💗

I also Concur to that. Tarja's version of this is the OG one, and she has more power in those really deep darker operatic tones. Floor's version is very good too, but it's her take on Siren. Idk, I love both versions.

Nice reaction again Eric! Great point about Emppu. Thing about Tuomas and Emppu is that, although Tuomas is a main composer, Emppu has always had freedom in solos. So when guitar solo parts are very melodic, follows close to vocal lines and flows very smoothly - there we see Emppu's artist side. It's never about him, he does what is the right thing for the song and for that, he deserves every praise and more.

I think people should read Dee Brown's Creek Mary's Blood -book in school. How did Tuomas turn inch thich book in a song is a miracle of it's own. @@mpark6142 yes, there have been some questions regarding his authenticity. While he is Native American (Lakota, Anishinaabe) by blood, as well as part European, he was not raised as part of any official tribe. He connected later, as an adult, with the Lakota, and was welcomed into the community. His Lakota name is Siyotanka. He has never tried to be only identified as Native, and is proud to be part Irish. Regardless of his background, he is one of the preeminent native flute artists, and his Grammy for best American Native Music album was deserved. I do like this song, but it doesn’t rank very highly amongst my favorite Nightwish pieces either.

I'm sad about the possibly-fraud/nonsense lyrics controversy because this is IMO honestly one of Tuomas's masterpieces. I sometimes listen to the orchestral version and it hits you in the feels even without the vocals/lyrics. Also yeah, this was another one that night in addition to 'High Hopes' that just had an incredible atmosphere. Despite everything, I'm glad I got to witness this as well.

Yeah, reservation was probably a poor choice of words, lol. One amazing thing about Tuomas is that he can write a song like this that explores the deep, and tragic history of an indigenous people and if you know Native American culture this music will touch your soul in a way that few songs can. But at the same time you don't have to understand a single word they're saying to be absolutely blown away by this performance, and I'm sure that was the case for many of people in attendance. Nightwish rewards listeners who have a greater understanding of the material, and opens the eyes of those who don't.

The controversy is that, despite being a fine singer/player, the Native American on stage is not named in any Indian tribal rolls. Also, on this song, he does sing a few Lakota words...from Dances With Wolves...he's not speaking the Lakota language, or any language. throughout. His "heeyy-yaaahhhs" were on point tho. Great commentary Eric! Again. Tuomas is a genius when it comes to memorable melodies. You recognize something about it. It almost sounds familiar. Yet is seems to be a beautiful flowing melody you would expect to hear from a world class classical string player. This is one of my favourite songs. I suggested to you a few videos ago. I am so happy that you reacted to..... Some facts: John Two Hawks is said that he is a fraud. I really do not care that much, what i do care about, that he fitted perfectly to this song. Also Can you imagine Troy attemtping to sing the Flute instead John 2 Hawks? Probably? Same impact? Probably not. Unfortuntely This song might be sanged again.... Such a pity! What is your opinion about Tarja's First Verse? Soon i will be here , No more - and later that night, BOOM you aren't her no more. (Tarja received the letter from them). Also this song must had trigggered something into Tuomasz, cause if you will see all the concert @ the third song, Everdream, Toumasz has a breakdown and cries on stage at the first accords.
@Razor2k32 жыл бұрын
@Marko L1977 are you suggesting, that he is not capable of crying, or that he wasn't really moved that he had a lot of pressure on his shoulders? He almost commited suicide, stated by poet and the pendulum. Put yourself in his shoes. He was about to end an era with no perspective to the future. For tuomas it has always been about the fans, and the legacy. The main thing in his mind is how to please the fans. If you will lookup, there is always a good story behind every song. So to end all that, so abruptly must have an impact. Ok, i stand corrected by the fact that he might have not cried with tears, but something was definetly collapsing.

One thing I’ll say, though I love it overall, like every NW song, I do wish that in this one…even for a short time…they had native drummers, on our style of a real drum…it sounds amazing, haha…if you/anyone ever goes to a POW wow…your heart will sync to the drum at lots of times…and yeah, I barely remember the little bit of my peoples language, was never a written language or anything. So can only learn in person, by speaking it. Never really had that option. And yeah Lots variations of various tribes. The same way. So it’s a dying thing. Probably in a few generations or so, most of them will be a dead language. As far as NW drama, yeah I’m with you, I love all their singers/eras of the band, all are excellent in their own particular way.
