First time I heard this it brought tears to my eyes. Kirstie's lead is fantastic and when she wails with emotion - wow. The cello, Avi's emotional solo - all of it. You might want to watch their rendition of Shallow to see Kirstie and Scott working well together. Along with everyone else of course!!!

This is where I fell in love with Kirstie's voice. And got to see Kevin's cello-boxing. And heard Avi sing that he had to go... There was only so much 'upbeat' they could infuse into this song, so they did their signature crescendo then fade. Thanks for an honest reaction.

It was an easy choice for them to have Avi take that solo. Scott even mentioned in one of the live videos that they always had Avi sing the emotional songs, and you can tell why in this one. This is one of my favorites by Pentatonix. Probably because it's Kirstie and Avi at the lead. Avi is my man. From the beginning it was Avi and Mitch. That first night I watched them on Sing off about 11 years ago, I musically imprinted on them LOL. Avi leaving was devastating to me. I admit I was stubborn about Matt, but got over it. All's well that ends well. Avi has his absolutely stunning solo work that he openly admits never would have happened if he stayed with PTX and that would have been a tragedy to lose the work he has put out since leaving. Matt doing a smashing job at Bass and tenor. I just love this group. Great reaction. I subbed the other day on a Dimash video I know this video is old but just wanted to leave a comment 😎

Thank you for reacting to this song. Most reactors don't do this one. I love the minimalism of the video and the arrangement. I have never heard the original, so when they first put this out if was a bit of a shock. But it highlights Kirstie so well. And they always build the song as it goes in a way that I so love. So much emotion in a tight package.

Kevin's initial youtube video that got Scott Hoying and Ben Bram's attention was with the cello. He coined the term "cello boxing". Kirstie is highlighted and so amazing in this one. Any time Avi is onboard I hear his warm lows and the emotion in his voice and expression is stunning. Thank you so much for your heartfelt reaction. :)

You should check out their cover of a Cosmo Sheldrake song called Come Along. It’s a real upbeat, catchy tune I think you would enjoy. They always call themselves a "band", so I do too. If you want to know how to pronounce Kirstie's name, here is a famous quote from her in an interview a few years ago: "My name is Kirstie. It rhymes with Thirsty. You're thirsty for Kirstie. It's a nickname for Kirstin. It rhymes with Thirstin'. You're thirstin' for Kirstin!" I read another commenter on one of their cover reactions write something that I am now using freely myself: Pentatonix doesn't cover songs, they UPGRADE them.

Avi had a livestream concert a few weeks ago. I wish you could have heard it. His voice has progressed fabulously. I thought I had heard his best voice, but NO! That concert was full of the most beautiful sounds.

This was one of Kirstin's first big leads. I'm going to guess 2014 based on Mitch, though I'm being lazy and not verifying. Not one I listen to a whole lot even though it's really good... just not enough Mitch for me, if I'm being honest 😅 But Kirstin didn't have many dedicated solos because she wasn't very confident until after her stint on Broadway during the transition from Avi (and you can see the jump in her confidence and craft, both, afterward).

Either "band" or "group" is fine, no problem. I've heard members say both. For a bouncy up-tempo one (with Matt especially bouncy on the bass line), with something good for everyone, try their Charlie Puth cover, "Attention."
